This was the trip of our dreams. We flew to Anchorage 4 days prior to our sailing and rented a car to go see Mt. McKinley and other places in the area. This allowed us to see the things we wanted to see and do the things we wanted to do. If you are in the McKinley area, 229 restaurant (mile 229 of the Parks Highway) is a must. Our first Princess cruise did not disappoint. We had a club class suite ob deck 12 with a wonderful balcony and a beautiful suite. Huge closet with many hangers and drawers with a safe. The bathroom was big and very nice. There was a long shelf under the sink for all your extra things and bags. The tub was deep and really nice as was the shower. Our new luxury bed was exactly that. Had the time of my life. Great Ship and polite crew. Went Club Class. Food was great and the scenery in the Fjords was breath taking.
One small not so minor thing was the "at sea internet". It only worked about 10 percent of the time with a connection speed of 25K. Dial up would have been faster.
I brought this to the attention at the main desk and it was a wast of time.

We always wanted to try Princess...when friends asked us to join them on Princess we jumped at the chance.
First the good:
Itinerary was great...especially the Hubbard glacier and Glacier Bay Park. Really great close up views of glaciers with park rangers giving commentary.
The bed was really comfortable.

We took the land part of the cruise first and then rode the train to Whittier where we boarded the ship. The medallion use on the ship was so easy to set up and use. It was so nice not to have a key to board or to open your stateroom door. Embarking and disembarking was easy with the medallion. The ship is huge. We were asked to join a group of family that were planning this trip with their friends. We traveled as a party of 16 - and had a blast!! We booked a land and sea package and added 2.5 additional days in Vancouver, BC. I wish we would have added more time in Vancouver. I just completed my second Alaska cruise and it was amazing but what will make this cruise stand out in my memory was the crew of the Royal Princess. I was drawn to the drop and go rate. I was an very good deal. I also let the cruiseline choose my stateroom. I asked for a non obstructed balcony room. We got a handicapped accesible room which was much larger than most. We know this may never happen again but it was a nice large room.
