Markets and Misadventures on the Rhine

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Viking Hlin

My friends and I, a group of forty-something guys, decided to give a Viking river cruise a try. We all wanted to visit the Christmas markets in Europe and though this would be a relaxing, carefree way to do so. Boy were we wrong. I'll start with the positive. The ship was clean, bright, and well-appointed. Space was used efficiently, and our French balcony stateroom was small but comfortable. ...

It was suggested by one of my sisters that I should experience a Viking Cruise. She had traveled on several trips with Viking and was very pleased. Having traveled with several different cruise lines, my husband and I decided to give Viking a try. Having never been on a River Cruise we decided that this would be our first experience with Viking. We were amazed and impressed by the care given ...

The Rhine cruise has been on my bucket list and I finally got the chance to go with my sister. From the moment we stepped on board the ship and throughout our entire cruise, we felt special. The food was phenomenal, our stateroom was perfect (Damarisz was a super housekeeper for us), the walking tours informative, extra excursions were awesome, and Wez (program Director) made every night a blast! ...

Rhine River Cruise

We highly recommend the Rhine River Cruise. It stops at key towns and offers great excursions. There are several locks that I found interesting, as well as low bridges in which the captains wheelhouse hydraulically lowers to squeeze under them. The top deck is perfect for sight seeing, particularly on the day you sail through the Middle Rhine with all the castles and vineyards. We highly ...

Great cruise for a novice to Europe

We have done our share of ocean cruises, but this was our first river cruise. We travelled with another couple, which really added to the overall fun of this break. We are relative novices to Europe, having last visited Italy before we had kids that are now in college. We booked the seven day Rhine cruise on the Viking HLIN, with a two day stay on the front end in Amsterdam, the cruise launch ...

Our third European river cruise

We enjoy cruising with 40+ year friends. Weather was great, rained only one day. Found the Rhine to be an interesting mixture of industrial and nature. We had lived for three years in Germany but had never visited Koblenz or Cologne, thinking that they were too industrialized, but we were wrong. Service was terrific as always. The musical entertainer was average at best, and I would have ...

Absolutely one of the best if not “the Best” cruise we’ve done ! The meals both on and off ship were far above any we’ve had on previous vacations ! The regional dinner selections every night on board knocked this cruise cuisine out of the park ! Having less passengers than the big cruise ships allowed us to be more personable with other guests and staff. We had a blast with the generational ...

We chose the cruise because it fit with our other travel plans. We have always wanted to try a Viking river cruise. Got to visit 4 countries. I was nice being able to travel and not have to unpack suitcases. I'm glad we payed up and picked the room with the veranda balcony, not French balcony. The rooms are rather small. The balcony makes it feel less claustrophobic. Lots of storage and suitcases ...

Amazing Rhine Riverboat trip

Viking is the best! We felt pampered, the staff was amazing! There was evening entertainment on most nights. There was music trivia, a dj night and dancing. We enjoyed the tours, we choose some of the included tours and some that were additional costs. Our tour guides were wonderful. Some days we could just wander around the town. The sundeck was nice when the weather was nice. The part of the ...

Viking lived up to it name...all except when we left. Saw their adds on our local PBS station. Loved our trip from the start, the pick-up at the airport. Lunch was waiting for us on the ship. Since we flew in early, they got our room ready early. You get all the excise you need on their walking tours each day. The food on board was outstanding and the service was even better. It was the ...
