Prinsendam is going out of Holland America Service on July 1. I wondered if I should write these reviews, but since Veendam is taking over some of the Prinsendam itineraries in 2020 I’ve decided this might still help future cruisers. We took two back to back itineraries, Celtic Explorer and Norwegian Fjords Explorer on the MS Prinsendam. The 14 day Norwegian Fjords Explorer started with a sea ...

We chose this cruise because it had more stops around Iceland than any other and because it was on the Prinsendam, which I have always wanted to experience. We were not disappointed, quite the contrary. We sailed from Amsterdam. Checking-in and boarding was a breeze - effectively we arrived at the terminal, almost walked straight through and were in our cabin in a matter of minutes. That set the ...

This is a long, "Log style" review. If you just want the summary scroll all the way down. Prinsendam 8-19-18; Scottish highlands and Icelandic Fiords We left Pennsylvania for Newark airport a little after noon on Friday August 17. We enjoyed an uneventful drive to our reserved off-airport parking and they quickly took us to terminal B. There was no line at Aer Lingus check in and we ...

This was our second cruise with Holland America, and first on Prinsendam. We have also cruised with Azamara, Oceania, NCL, Windstar, Louis, Katarina and several river cruise operators. This cruise was 20 nights, starting and finishing in Amsterdam. The ship was looking a bit worn in places. The public areas were in better state. Our cabin was looking tatty. Our first HAL cruise was on the ...

Iceland, Greenland and Scotland explorer, August 18, 2018. This cruise is not for everyone, but it certainly was for us. You need to enjoy smaller ports of call and visiting isolated communities to really enjoy this itinerary. We live in such a community in Alaska and this was an opportunity to see how different locations cope with common issues. What clinched this for us, however, was ...

This was a 14-day cruise from Amsterdam to Amsterdam around the British Isles. The weather was iffy some days, but that's the UK. The entertainment was better some nights than others, which is common. The Prinsendam Singers and Dancers were very good. We were in cabin 394, at the very back on deck 6. When they had to rev the engines to go in and out of port, it was very, very noisy and ...

This was our first cruise on Holland America. The boat size (800 or so passengers), time of year and itinerary sold us on giving HA a try. The cruise was around the British Isles, Aug. 4 to 18, 2017. It was about as we expected. Our room was 052, a Signature Suite, which is a larger room, not a suite, really, which comes at a higher price. The room was clean and comfortable, the bath a good ...

Interesting destination, the polar ice cap balanced our cruise to Antarctica. Unusually good weather made for a nice cruise, with beautiful views of the Norwegian and Icelandic fjords...a lot of fjords. The Prinsendam is a great small ship, without the big crowds found on large liners. 670 of the 790 passengers (804 listed max) had sailed HAL before. My point for this review is about the ...

This was our 2nd Prinsendam cruise and we like a smaller ship like Prinsendam with 670 pax. Exterior cabin is comfortable with a walk in closet and a bathtub. Furniture shows some wear and tear but the bed is comfy, sheets are good quality and we were happy with the storage and the TV channels. Prinsendam is that little secret HAL ship that the really well travelled appear to enjoy. HAL ...

This was our 12th sailing on HAL, the second on the Prinsendam. We choose HAL because their ships tend to be smaller - the Prinsendam is the smallest in the fleet. The fleet is immaculately well maintained, always clean as a whistle, with a crew that always smile and greets every guest they encounter. Perhaps they all go to "smile school" but who cares, on HAL it is the way of life. When we ...
