I chose Viking based on experiences that my friends had previously had. I chose the Rhine cruise because of reccomendation that it was a great choice for 1st time river cruisers. This cruise met all my expectations. From the ease of embarkation to the friendly, helpful staff, everything was well thought out. We had to change ships mid cruise due to water levels in the Rhine. Even this ...
Ship and decor
Beautiful ship with nice and interesting corners and venues. Lots of new design elements, some of which though are bordering overly done. The main atrium, although at first very impressive, does not work as a heart of the ship, or place to meet. The Eden is a nice big area to relax, listen to music and enjoy the view thru its huge glass walls. .

When I saw the 25th Anniversary Promotion for included international airfare and silver spirits it was a win win. We went on the Rhine from Amsterdam to Basel, SW. We were further pleased that we could fly out our nearest airport and not have to drive to Charlotte or Atlanta.
From our first boarding to end we were pleased to meet many wonderful people from fellow travelers to crew officers ...
Having done quite a few ocean cruises this was our first ever experience of a river trip.
Initially Avalon made an absolute hash of our flights and eventually got us to the ship after midnight. As we missed that evening’s meal they did offer us some light refreshments in our cabin.
The cabin itself was excellent with panoramic windows and good facilities. It was quiet with no discernable ...
This was our first river cruise. We have been on many ocean cruises, and had that as an expectation.Viking went above and beyond. We were late getting to Cologne, Germany. Rather than us losing a lot of time in Cologne, Viking arranged for us to be dropped off and bussed to Cologne, where we later met the ship. That was certainly above and beyond. I am diabetic. Every night, the chef made a ...
After a two year delay due to the pandemic, my partner and I finally were able to take our long anticipated River Cruise. Having taken past cruises on large ships, it was great to be on a smaller ship with about 120 folks. We arrived in Amsterdam two days before sailing and the Ama tour of the city was very good. The hotel where we stayed ( Barbizon Palace), was very nice and comfortable with very ...
Having done a lot of research river cruising we plumped for this itinerary travelling up the Rhine and then Danube, Amsterdam to Budapest. This was our first river cruise, having previously been on Ocean cruises. According to the advertisements it would tick all our boxes, alas that was not to be the case.
We never considered that there would be low water levels that would disrupt the whole ...
We had done a river cruise on Viking before, so we expected some great service and they provided it again. The food was great, although we had hoped for more local German specialties. Service in the restaurant was excellent, even as the number of wait staff dropped off as we sailed. It seemed to take just a little longer to get some attention.
Our cabin was kept clean and the bed made ...
My husband's family is of German descent and this was the perfect opportunity to see the countryside.
It was a delightful voyage, perfect weather, excellent excursions for the most part. We wish we had had more free time at each city for shopping, etc. The information we were given before each stop was a good overview.
The crew was excellent. They bent over backwards to make our trip as ...
I admit Virgin Cruises has spoiled us. But due to being a new cruise line and limited destinations, we booked the Viking Saga cruise on the new Rotterdam ship.
Pros: the pros are there are very few children on this ship, which makes for a better experience for me at least. The entertainment was classy and catered more to a cultured crowd. The blues band was excellent and the classical ...
