Disappointed

Review for a U.S.A. Cruise on American Eagle (ACL)

Hubby and i selected this cruise because we thought cruising the maine coast and traveling to the small maine coastal villages would be fun. There actually was very little coastal cruising, parked us inland due to bad weather and took us via coach ( bus) to our ports. Our veranda suite was a huge disappointment. not enough space in the closet for our clothes ( and this was just a 7 day ...

VERY OLD SHIP

Review for a U.S.A. Cruise on American Star

We chose this cruise to the New England Islands because my wife has never been to New England. The pictures and description on ACL website were misleading. This was nowhere near a luxury cruise. The best place to begin is the Rennaissance Hotel the day before the cruise. Room was nice but not worth $500.00. Embarkation was easy and without incident. However, the cruise line changed the port ...

New England Islands Cruise from Providence, RI

We chose this cruise because we were looking for a quiet, luxurious and relaxing experience. We had high expectations for this cruise due to its high cost (over $12,500 for 7 nights) and extensive marketing. Our first impression was very good. We booked the pre-cruise night in the Renaissance Hotel with the tour of Providence. The hotel was lovely and the service impeccable. The tour of Providence ...

Reasonably Good Cruise until the Last Day.

Review for a U.S.A. Cruise on American Heritage (formerly Queen of the Mississippi)

We wanted to travel on the Mississippi and learn about the South and the Civil War. The cruise and the excursion were reasonably good. but the last day was a disaster. We docked in Tunica Mississippi which was 45 miles from downtown Memphis. We were not advised of this change in advance and had signed up for two bus tours to see Memphis and the museums. We spent over four hours total driving ...

Columbia & Snake Rivers Cruise.

Review for a U.S.A. Cruise on American Harmony

The cruise actually started in Lewiston, Idaho but Cruise Critic does not have that in the required drop down menu. It was the west bound passage ending in Portland, Oregon (actually Hayden Island, Oregon. (The east bound passage has the same itinerary only in reverse). It traversed eight locks on the way to the mouth of the Columbia River following the route of Lewis and Clark. It was very ...

I've always wanted to see the western Civil War Battlefields so for our 50th wedding anniversary we took the ACL Miss River cruise. We booked the most expensive cabin, the "owners suite" for $16,000. The cabin was large but mostly empty. They gave us wine everyday and sweet snacks in the afternoon and a bottle of champagne to celebrate our anniversary. The crew was great with several ...

Amelia Island was beautiful, but the weather was not great.

We chose this cruise because it as over New Years & we had credits or "cruise vouchers" we had to use, we could not get a refund. The population of the ship was mostly senior citizens many with walkers, canes& wheelchairs. There was one elevator which had the capacity of 2 people & it worked slowly & poorly. In all the public areas there was only ONE restroom. The cleaning staff & the kitchen ...

Our 10th Cruise - The Great Rivers of Florida

We also took the Great Rivers of Florida cruise in 2019 as our 9th cruise. We had to take this cruise again because we had vouchers from a cruise that was canceled because of COVID. The vouchers expired by the end of 2021, so our options were limited. On both of these cruises, Lake George was included as one of our destinations. I would very much have enjoyed cruising Lake George and observing the ...

Review for a U.S.A. Cruise on American Jazz

We chose American Cruise Lines because of the newer ship, American Jazz and amenities such as a fitness center, singles option, and larger state rooms. We were satisfied with the room, the seating areas, and general layout of the ship. The staff were generally accommodating. The quality of the food was hit and miss with some meals good and others passable. The manager of the dining room ...

Inland Passage aboard the Star - An Adventure on the High Seas

Review for a U.S.A. Cruise on American Star

All of our past cruises on ACL have been excellent, but this one did not quite live up to our expectations. Herewith what did not go right (much did go right -- see "On the Positive Side" below): Our Big Delay Our Inland Passage cruise on the American Star began as planned in Baltimore, MD. But after a day at our first port in Yorktown, VA, Captain O'Connor announced that a critical engine ...
