We just completed a cruise on the Hudson River on the Star. Having cruised many times before (albeit on different lines), I must tell you that this cruise was not good. One set of passengers that we got to know fairly well even left early because they were so disappointed. The ship needs a complete face lift and mechanical overhaul. Specific issues:
1. Systems
a. The water system was ...
This was my first time on American Cruise Lines. We wanted to see some of New England. We flew into Providence, RI and stayed at the cruise line recommended Hotel. The hotel was overpriced and not helpful about what to do in Providence. The cruise line had a welcome package, but no information about Providence. We missed a great Italian restaurant area that we did not find out about until the next ...
This was a cruise of the New England Islands. We were excited to see these islands and they were beautiful.
The stops were typical of small town New England coastal life. It was interesting to see how the very rich live.
We chose American Cruise Lines because our previous experience with ACL on the Columbia River was great.
Of course that was before the pandemic. Perhaps, that ...
We picked this cruise because we'd never been to the New England Islands. The brochure said Providence to Providence. But the dock in Providence was damaged last year and American Cruise Lines is using a very unattractive dock in an industrial area of Fall River. A 40 minute bus ride away. That was just the beginning of problems. We embarked on a Saturday. Our bathroom fan screeched. It ...
We cruised New England in August 2022 on the American Star. It was awful. The worst cruise I have ever taken. The ship is old and in need of much maintenance. We had sewage back up in our shower 3 times. We embarked the ship from a different port than advertised. Had we not been on the pre- cruise exercuion we would have missed the ship, because we wre never informed of the embarking port change. ...
Just finished 1 week cruise on Queen of West Columbia & Snake River in Oct 2021. It was NOT "Small Ship Cruising Done Perfectly". The old ship is like a 2.5 star motel. The advertised "Exquisite Cuisine" was B average . The dinner rolls were always room temperature and hard. I recommend they switch to Hawaiian Sweet Rolls so that it's always soft. "Acclaimed Entertainment" consisted of ...
The food was poor to say the least. The airline chicken consisted of an unseasoned piece of meat with BBQ sauce poured on top. To make matters worse, it was raw in the middle. The short ribs were cold when they came to the table and heavily laced with fat and grizzle. The portobello mushroom sandwich consisted of two burnt pieces of toast and a mini mushroom in the middle. The baked potato was ...
We wanted to cruise the inland waterway. I thought this would be a luxury cruise because it was so expensive. The ship looked old and tired and the cabin was disappointing. They only had one elevator that was like a coffin and I didn't;t see any lifeboats, so no lifeboat drills, how do they get away with this?
No phone in cabin and we had to ask for soap and toilet paper and waited hours for ...
Being seasoned cruisers on ocean sailing lines, we were interested to try out the American Cruise Line's style of cruising the inland waterway enabling us to visit seaside towns that we'd never otherwise see on a big ship. ACL charged a much higher price but offered a lot less for the money. We already were prepared for a smaller ship with less amenities but found it even more lacking in service, ...
We chose this cruise having experienced the lower Mississippi, which was wonderful.
We enjoyed the Providence city excursion prior to the cruise. The driver was very knowledge and took us to many places of interest. However, this cruise was disorganized, seemed to be their training cruise and their oldest ship. Crew members were changed throughout the cruise. For example, the first ...
