Stateroom with French balcony (C) Cabin Reviews

The cabin was clean and a decent size for a cruise ship. We didn't spend a lot of time there.

We chose a Cat C. (French Balcony) cabin, starboard-side aft on the mid (Cello) deck. Although significantly smaller than the touted “Twin-FrenchDoor-Balcony” cabins (Cat BB & up), one exceptional feature of these is that the sole french door slides completely away, essentially leaving one entire side of the cabin, floor-to-ceiling, completely open. With a railing of course. Thus, do not dismiss these Cat C. cabins. If this is your first time on the Danube or on a river cruise, Avoid the Cat D & E Window cabins on the lower (Piano) Deck as you’ll mostly miss the endless scenery passing by, including the occasional middle-of-the night concrete lock-wall. Being at the aft end of the ship was not an inconvenience. No engine noise. Obviously, no waves. Also, up the rear stairs to the Violin Deck and in the Chef’s Table is the second, lesser-known, 24hr Coffee/Espresso/Cappuccino machine. The spacious bathroom features a sliding-door shower with both “rainfall” and hand-held showers. Both it and the cabin were kept spotless. I found the pillows to be a bit thin, perhaps worn, but a request for new ones was executed forthwith. Notable is the iMac-based en-suite infotainment system, easily the most sophisticated yet intuitive such system to be found on the water. Don’t forget your Euro-to-US plug adapter and an outlet strip to keep all your technology charged up. Free, fast & unlimited WiFi throughout the ship was an equally pleasant surprise. The minifridge was kept full of complimentary bottled water, which would also appear whenever disembarking for a tour, and on coaches. Read Less

Beautifully appointed room with storage for suitcases under bed. I would love to have an outside balcony next time because the room is larger, but we rarely had time to sit around so it was fine. I had trouble blowing the circuit with my flat iron and next time will borrow one from housekeeping. Also our internet connection was not reliable. We were only able to face time our children at home once, and my husband could not connect to his remote office software. Read Less

While the lower level cabins are fine, the 10 additional sf in the French balcony rooms made a difference for comfort. The cabins are laid out conveniently with under bed space for storage. We never tripped over our belongings or each other. Current movies and an Apple PC are available but we were so exhausted at the end of each day, we barely used it. We tuned mostly to the bow camera. We had a category C cabin on the Violin or uppermost cabin deck. While smaller than most of the higher category cabins and lacking a true balcony, we were very comfortable. We believe this is one of the best values aboard this ship. One caveat is that on our first night’s voyage we were traveling a long distance upstream with a very strong headwind. The engines were working hard and their noise was noticeable all night long. As the C cabins are aft, I think this affected us more than more foward staterooms. But, with shorter distances and less wind we did not notice the engines the remainder of the voyage. Read Less

Our cabin was lovely. We liked the fact that we could open the French balcony and look outside to take pictures or enjoy the scenery as it rolled on by. The room was large enough for both of us, it was well appointed, the bathroom was stocked with lovely bottles of shampoo, cream rinse, body wash, body lotion, lovely lilac soaps, hair dryer and a nice magnifying mirror. Two bath robes and two pairs of disposable slippers were provided. We had a converter for our electricity but there were lots of plugs in the drawer as well as a cork screw and two glasses. We found a plug for 110 appliances as well. There is a good size safe and a stocked fridge in the room as well. Lots of nice lighting. Read Less
