This cruise was chosen specifically because of the itinerary. It went from Amsterdam to Basel and for 11 days. Our cruise manager was Dejan Stancic and was absolutely one of the most fabulous and entertaining person! He made us smile and laugh each evening when he provided the passengers (guests) with previews and information for upcoming ports. He was very knowledgable and approachable so it was easy to ask questions of any kind that would help make your trip even better. The rest of the staff were absolutely awesome, all were friendly and smiling, we always looked forward to meals and just being anywhere on board because they made us feel like family quickly. The captain, crew and hotel manager were also very friendly. What a great time we had! The ports were fabulous (read the itinerary in the brochure) and there also was a few relaxing mornings on the ship so we did not need to rush as much like the seven day cruises would be. Of course, the views on the Rhine and Moselle were gorgeous and seeing the castles dotting the hillsides (as Dajan said, you would be seeing so many on each side of the ship that you would begin to feel like a ping pong ball!) This was truly a fairytale experience! The ship was beautiful, the cabins spotless and embarkation/disembarkation experiences were seamless. Thank you AMAPRIMA for this wonderful and memorable cruise!!! Loved every second of it. Read Less

AMA was recommended by my travel agent as one of the nicest river cruise lines to sail with. We were not disappointed. From the moment we stepped onto the ship until our last goodbye, we were treated like favorite family members. Kudos to AMA for creating a pleasant, comfortable, and relaxing experience for it's guests. The staff were exceptionally well trained and any request was accomodated. There were food choices for all palates and the preparation of local foods was superb. Because of the intimate dining space were able to fraternize with other diners, yet still have privacy. We were encouraged to linger over our meals and the servers were very knowledgable about wine pairings. The after-dinner entertainment was thoughtfully chosen to appeal to our "mature" taste. The excursions were tailored for all activity levels and the guides were extremely well versed in local history and legend, honestly the best we have had as travelers so far. All things considered, I would definitely sail AMA Waterways again! Read Less

This was an amazing cruise on a beautiful ship. The crew actually treated us like family and were attentive and completely focused on making sure we had everything we could need or want. Martina, the cruise manager, was so much fun! In fact, everyone on the ship was fun and engaging. From Petar in the bar with his fun back and forth with my father to George and Dragos in the dining room. It really felt like family! Different activities at night from sing alongs, to dancing, to beautiful classical music, to Liars Club. The food was spectacular. In fact, as a vegetarian, meals can be difficult. Not on this cruise. The chef actually sought me out on multiple occassions to prepare special meals for me and to understand my likes and dislikes. Over the top service! The ship is very beautiful and has all of the amenities you could want. I will say the excercise room is a little small and that the gift shop could use some improvement, however, the ship overall was very comfortable and it was beautiful. The actual cities visited were breathtaking and had more Christmas than you could hope to see. They surely know how to celebrate the holidays! I highly recommend this cruise to anyone interested in a river adventure. Read Less

We had recently sailed on AmaPrima for a 7 day Christmas cruise (Budapest to Nuremberg). Embarkation was a breeze. We arrived at around 5:00 p.m., having walked from our rental apartment to the dock - easy manageable walk along the riverbank. There was no line up when we arrived, and in less then 2 minutes, we were in our cabin, unpacking and getting ready for 6:30 welcome briefing + dinner. Cruise director's daily briefing + information was always delivered in an informative, pleasant manner, not too bogged down with lengthy information. The experience was wonderful, sounds, sight and smell .... plus the outstanding staff on board AmaPrima, made the already wonderful cruise even more perfect. Reception staff were always there with a smile, and after a few days' sailing, we felt like one big family, greeting each other every morning, saying goodbye as we embarked on our daily tours, and being greeted with a warm welcome home afterwards! Food was very good - bread was exceptional. We can smell fresh baking bread every morning as we wake up, and the quality of the baked goods were exceptional - didn't try their desserts, so I cannot comment on that. Service during meal times were impeccable. Tours were organized efficiently, with different levels of activity. We were offered a free tour to Salzburg, which would have been an optional tour on a regular sailing, but since it was Christmas, the company threw it in for free. Nice touch. We also docked at a small village on Christmas eve, so that passengers could attend an evening mass with the locals - that was so special. Disembarkation was also very efficient. There was a sign up sheet for taxi requests, what time it was needed etc. Taxis arrived on time and announced through the PA system, so one could wait in the lounge area until time to disembark. Needless to say, it was much appreciated because of the cold weather :) Great sailing itinerary, great experience. Read Less

We flew to Munich to spend 4 days on our own exploring before heading to Nuremberg to board the Prima on November 30th. This was our first riverboat cruise and we weren't sure what to expect. The ship itself was lovely and fully decorated for the Christmas holidays which added to the atmosphere. Embarkation very smooth, quick and easy. Baggage in our cabin quickly. The crew were wonderful. Couldn't ask for more there. Very attentive while not intrusive. It was very noticeable how many pitched in to help in all areas of running the ship and it was particularly nice to see the senior staff leading by doing things themselves and not just directing others. The food was excellent all around. Very high standards. We were in cabin 301 which is a suite and although much smaller to suites on the ocean going vessels we've travelled in, was very nice and just fine for this trip. No complaints. Nicely decorated, comfortable bed, plenty of storage. Didn't really use the balcony due to the cold but we'd expected that. We really enjoyed that the line doesn't nickel and dime you for every little thing with red and white wine available at no additional charge at lunch and dinner and other mixed alcohol drinks at very reasonable rates. Standard day tours also no charge (other limited tours available at a fee in some ports but we didn't bother with those as our focus was visiting the various towns on the route and their Christmas markets). The stops included Regensburg, Passau, Melk, Vienna and Budapest where we left the ship. We'd originally thought the time scheduled in each port would be too short but it was perfectly adequate for what we wished to do while there. I think our only complaint for the cruise was the fact that when we arrived to board the ship, we were told that aside from us and 5 more passengers, all other passengers were part of two large "stitching" groups who were getting together for the cruise and who held various classes and in some cases, pretty much took over the public areas of the ship at times. We were definitely the outsiders during our week on board although we did meet a handful of very nice folks who tried to include us in some things and that was much appreciated. I do feel that if a ship books groups of such a large size that the remaining passengers should be given advanced option to cancel their booking at no penalty. Likely we would have postponed our trip till next year or sought a similar sailing on another line. Anyhow, we're not likely to do another river cruise as this did accomplish what I wanted which was easy access to the markets. Will likely stick to ocean cruising. Read Less
