Holiday Markets

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on AmaPrima

AMA Prima. All river cruises are tight quarters and while this ship has a small lift, expect narrow stairs onboard and possibly multiple stairs when tied next to another ship at a port as one passes through the adjoining ship and may require up and over passage. The central european staff was generally young, professional, well managed and hard working. The recommended tip amounts are a minimum, ...

We flew to Munich to spend 4 days on our own exploring before heading to Nuremberg to board the Prima on November 30th. This was our first riverboat cruise and we weren't sure what to expect. The ship itself was lovely and fully decorated for the Christmas holidays which added to the atmosphere. Embarkation very smooth, quick and easy. Baggage in our cabin quickly. The crew were wonderful. ...

AmaDolce Low Water

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on AmaDolce

The cruise was fantastic for the first 5 days, then the low water hit. Although, AMA says they are not affected by this, that is not the truth. We had to dock and be bussed to Regensburg and Nuremburg. The bus rides were 3 to 5 hours long. Very disappointing but not AMA's fault. Although, Viking, who is very upfront about their itinerary changes, did a boat swap during this period, which would ...

A Good First Time Cruise

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on AmaDolce

This was our very first river cruise and we chose AMAwaterways based upon reviews and sailing dates and embarkation point. Aside from the weather - clouds or showers the entire trip - the cruise met our expectations and more. The cruise manager was very accommodating and helpful. The staff very friendly and good at their tasks. The tours offered gave us a good feel for the people and towns we ...

This was our first river cruise - the Rhine River from Amsterdam to Basel. We spent 4 days in Amsterdam and I definitely recommend a few days before embarkation. Jet lag is tricky and we pay so much for the cruise we wanted to truly enjoy it. We stayed in the Marriott by the docks and loved. We are the type of couple who like to just wander around and we did. Our only scheduled events were ...

Rivers and Castles -- Great first time experience river cruising Paris to Prague

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on AmaLyra

Just back from an AMA Waterways river cruise from Paris to Prague. In summary, it was a great cruise and AMA certainly took care of its passengers. The cruise itself is seven nights from Luxembourg to Nuremburg and then we added on extensions in Paris at the beginning and Prague at the end. Overall I would give the 14 days a 4+ Rating. We are Elite plus Captain Club members with Celebrity but ...

Wonderful Experience to Repeat in the Future!

My husband and I are veteran ocean cruisers, but this was our first time on a river. There were many differences, most of them wonderful--in fact, we enjoyed our Amadolce experience so much, we were reluctant to turn in our keys! The reception upon arrival was overwhelmingly friendly with a personal escort to our room. No time consuming stops to check in and pull out our credit cards for the drink ...

AMACerto a Disappointment Compared to the Douro

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on AmaCerto

Overall a nice experience but thanks to the many new friends we made during the cruise. We booked this cruise soon after a cruise on the River Douro with AMA only 5 months earlier. The AMA Douro cruise was perfect. Sadly this cruise was a very different experience. My wife and I feel that the main things that led to our disappointment can be summed up by no one really in control or taking ...

This was our 7th river cruise, and 3rd with AMA. We arrived on time in AMS and found the AMA desk. The excellent service we have consistently experienced on AMA started there and continued until we were in our taxi on the return to the airport. Highlights: - Staff and crew were excellent and our Captain, Rob, was very personable. - Cruise manager Peter Whitehead was not only a great CM, but ...

This was our first river cruise so we have nothing to compare it with other than luxury ocean cruising with Silversea and Regent. It was called "Great Capitals and Vintage of the Danube". It started with a 3-day land pre-extension in Prague (based in the very nice Hilton Old Town), followed by a 7-day cruise from Vilshofen to Budapest. It was a wine-themed cruise, with multiple on-board tastings ...
