Where do we start, Amazing trip/experience with AMA? Using our travel agent /AMA we added 1 night in Zurich, 2 nights in Basel at the beginning and 2 more nights in Amsterdam at the end of our cruise. The experience on the AMA Prima was 2nd to none, from receiving our ‘Booking Summary” and reviewing it, we felt this trip was going to be special. Then checking into our 1st hotel, seeing/experiencing “Basel” and seeing the docking of River Cruise Ships from our room, we loved it. The hotel provided us with a short transfer to the dock to board/check in on the AMA Prima & there we knew we were in for a very special cruise/vacation. The food was amazing all 3 sittings, the “Chef Table “gave us an experience to remember. The main Lounge/bar was an excellent meeting place, entertainment in the evening, snacks & cold/hot beverages most of the day. The staff was attentive to guest details, tours, dining, safety on board and made the less than 150 guests on board have what they required to make their trip a lasting experience. The daily tours were included with attention to detail for the visitor and the area. My only negative comment is not to do with the Staff on the AMA Prima but with AMA vacation operations. AMA’s selection of hotels for the pre/post cruise were only at one budget level (highest). I found that insensitive & arrogant not fitting with what we experienced on the “AMA Prima” Read Less

Family recommended the Amawaterways cruise company . We couldn’t of had a better trip. The ship was in excellent condition from brass bell down to the on board bikes to take ashore . We were wowed by the crew especially the cruise manager “Marcia”. The food was excellent and suited all types of tastes and appetites along with the abundant poured wines paired with all the meals .(except breakfast Thank God)! We saw lots of other cruise companies as we traveled up the Rhine and our ship always looked the best and had active guests and crews having fun on deck all the time . Others cruise ships seemed to not have the same energy . Our on shore activities were great especially the hired by ama tour guides in each port , turely amazing and so knowledgeable and fun to follow through village listening to all the history and amusing details of our visit . This cruise was amazing! We chose a Danube cruise for the destinations. My husband is a musician and wanted to go to places where the famous composers actually wrote and performed the music so this itinerary was perfect. Everything about this cruise was easy. Checkin was easy, they took our luggage to our room while we were checking in and they explained all the room features to us. We had been traveling for almost a week prior to getting on the ship so we sent out laundry that first night and asked to have it back in 2 days, it was back in our room same night when we came back from dinner! The cabin was well appointed and we opted for a balcony which we enjoyed. The food was great and service was top notch in both the restaurant and the lounge. The DJ in the evenings was entertaining and played great music and the dance floor was always full. The water level in the northern part of the Danube was too low so our itinerary had to change to accommodate that. No one wants a ship to get stuck! They reworked the itinerary on the fly and found other great locations for us to stop at and wonderful tour options. Every night before dinner we met the cruise director Csaba in the lounge and he updated everyone on the changes and let us know where we would be the next day. You could tell he was working really hard to come up with Plan B and he did not disappoint. As a result we did miss out on a few of the scheduled ports but all in all I don't think we really missed anything and we thoroughly enjoyed the options we did have. This was our first river cruise and we were anxious to compare it to the big ocean liners and we were pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed the smaller, quieter atmosphere. We plan to do another cruise with AMA in the next year or so. We had a fantastic time and the level of detail and service was above and beyond our expectations. Read Less

This was a bucket trip to celebrate a significant birthday. We had never cruised before--opting instead of sailing adventures. What a delight to be able to leisurely experience the sights and the history of a trip that started in Prague with a pre-cruise and then down the Danube to Budapest. Maddy Caldaruse was a superb cruise director, filled with facts as well as fun. Her patience and pleasure was evident. The tour guides on the different options we took were so filled with information and enthusiasm. we also walked out kegs off--meaning that despite such fabulous food and drink, we didn't gain a pound. Now that's a trip. From our cabin steward to the dear reception attendant, from the wait staff to the crew, Ama delivered as promised. The food offered options to fit any palate. I particularly found the breakfasts to set the healthy stage for the rest of the day! Read Less

First river cruise and we have always wanted to see the Normandy beaches and cemeteries, so this was chosen. I had always heard of Viking from numerous TV commercials but a travel agent reco'd AMA as an upgrade, and it certainly was. The ship is 10 years old, but stunning, as if it was manufactured yesterday. Every inch of paint is flawless and gleaming, the furniture looks new, and there is not even a speck of dust on this ship. The food choices were ample and I liked that there were buffet choices ready to eat along with many things you could order at each meal. Cruise manager Pau would be successful in any business, perfectly organized and highly competent. You get to know him quickly and he quickly attends to anything you might need. Every employee was cheery and solicitous. You could barely sip some wine before your glass was refilled at meals, all included in the price. The world's best bartender, Elena, made the week. Funny, quick and lovely, we will miss her. Were I to cruise again with AMA, I would try to choose based on what ship she is on. On-board musician Mike Minkoff played for hours and he has the guitar chops of Mark Knopfler(Dire Straits), plus gifted on keyboard and harmonica, with great song choices. We danced every single night. If you are choosing a cruise line right now, I'd pick this one, regardless of destination. It's an exceedingly well-run business with top employees and training. Oh, I really appreciated the small gym and the daily fitness classes. Might not have booked this trip without those. Read Less

An travel agent acquaintance made some suggestions when my sister and I decided we would like to try a river cruise and we are so grateful she suggested AMA. The service was wonderful and the cruise manage, Camille, was terrific. She was friendly and professional and personal. She supplied pertinent information at the exact time we needed it. The excursions were timely and informative and guides were excellent. The time at the excursion sites is relatively quick. If you really want to explore a city, you really don't have time to do so - you mostly get an overview, then move on. We did a bike tour along the Danube, as well as a hiking tour, but the rest were city tours, which are informative, but next time I might do something more specific to the area, such as a wine tasting, etc. The cruise was relaxing but never boring. You can be as active as you wish, or relax as necessary. The excursions were offered for easy walkers, regular walkers or active walkers, along with bike and hiking. Be sure to pack clothing to enjoy the deck. As you travel along the Danube (we sailed from Budapest to Vilshofen) the scenery got more and more beautiful as we sailed up the river. The food was delicious but not in excess like it can be on an ocean cruise. The only thing I would criticize would be the on board gym. It could have used a few free weights and an elliptical machine, but after a few days I didn't have the time or energy to use it anyway! Can't wait to cruise with AMA again! Read Less

We had heard a lot of good things about AMA Waterways so when it came to choosing a company we didn't look anywhere else for a river cruise. We chose the 7 night Danube cruise from Vilshofen to Budapest. The brand new Ama Lea was beautiful and nicely appointed. I can't say enough about the staff who made sure our experience was exceptional. The food was delicious and always beautifully presented. We dined at the Chef's Table one night and everything was exceptional. The tours in each port were well organized and informative. They had tours for different levels of activity so they catered for all levels of physical abilities. We usually chose the active tours, hikes to castles and the bike ride along the Danube in Weissenkirchen. The ride took us through quaint villages, vineyards and apple orchards. The scenery in the Wachau Valley was gorgeous. Thank you AMA Waterways. Read Less

Good experience with inconvenience of record hot summer, and drought across Central Europe. Captain did the best one could, "Everyone talks about the weather, but no one ever does anything about it"-Mark Twain. Some minor itinerary shifts, and less convenient docking, due to low water. Small staff, morale and attitude very good, professional. Open seating 3 meals a day made connecting with specific waiters, though certainly seamless hand-offs. Occasional coordination slight delays at breakfast for coffee. I missed the Ocean Cruise relationship w a single waiter throughout. The ship offered Sip and Sail, an unadvertised feature of cocktails, beer, wine, complimentary for one hour prior to dinner, along with complimentary, beer- Stella on tap- wines with lunch and dinner. One red one white the meal, the same unoaked French Chardonnay every day, some variation in reds. Generous pours- the inexperienced be careful! Food quite good, compared to experiences with Holland America and Cunard. I ordered entercôte very rare, ie 'bleu', twice and, both perfect, NOT overcooked both times. (I have been told water hate the order 'rare', as it id cooked to order, then complaints and returns, 'ugh, this is raw'." I have learned to assure, "I will not send it back for under cooking". Variations, request all provided w/o hint of protest or inconvenience. I only undertook 2 excursions, the trip to the Amsterdam flower auction, massive facility, was great, as it is impossible to describe, scale, scope, and complexity of the system. walk across the building and back, 1 mile. The final day excursion to Riquwehr FR, was fun. Alsatian village from 15500-1600's, lot of tourists, but no pizza or MaDonalds. Sat in café, watched it flow by. Cabin snug, public areas laid out well, so cabin for sleep and naps. Ship was impeccably clean Dress casual, well heeled group of mostly retired Southern professionals, dressed same as if home. PROS- All-inclusive approach means the feeling of nickeled and died to death was blessedly missing CONS Not really. Close quarters of boat. Its a boat on a river, so it's a big as possible Read Less

We asked our travel agent for a Danube cruise. She suggested AMA Waterways vs Viking. saying that since Viking started ocean cruising they have moved some of their best people away from the river boats and AMA Waterways gives better service. We had previously taken a Viking Ocean cruise of the Western Med and were very pleased. We flew from Jacksonville, FL to Atlanta and then to Amsterdam using Delta Priority status and found that we did indeed have more seat room. Regardless that 8 hour flight was tiresome. Arriving in Budapest we were met by an AMA driver who brought us to the Sofitel Chain Bridge Hotel where we had a lovely room and perfect service. We walked around the area and ate that evening at the Four Seasons Hotel which is located nearby in a gorgeous old castle. The next day we transferred to the AMAViola, a beautiful ship with the most hospitable staff and a comfortable room with a balcony. Later that day we had a guided tour of Budapest. Evening cruise for Budapest lights From then on each day was at a different city where there were morning guided tours with 3 choices: Active-which meant hiking or biking, Regular- generally a bus to the center of the historic district and then a guided walking tour or Gentle- usually a bus tour with less walking. Afternoons often had second included tours or optional events such as a classical concert in Vienna. Every cities was wonderful, filled with history and beautiful architecture. The guides were marvelous, they actually are schooled as guides for a minimum of 2 years. The regular walking tours were not strenuous but we easily fulfilled our daily 10,000 steps per day. Almost everyone we met understood English as most of these Eastern European countries require English education as early as 3rd grade. Although almost all tourist places accepted Euros you got change in the local currency. Be sure to carry sufficient Euros to tip the guides and drivers. All meals were on the ship and couldn't have been better. There were many meal choices, open seating, and tended to always include local and regional dishes. After the cruise we extended two Prague where the AMA tour manager accompanied us and was constantly available to lead us to both organized tours and free time activities from the Hilton Downtown hotel in the heart of the city. Suggestion: Dining at both The Portfolio restaurant and the White Horse restaurant were great experiences. Both had seating underground in old (like fro 1200AD) basements decorated in absolutely the finest taste. Food Was excellent, perhaps the best I ever had. Unfortunately, the water level in the Danube was very low. The AMAviola had a small draft but the other river ships, including Viking weren’t able to sail and had to tie up and bus their passengers. These folks were pretty upset. Weather was very hot, high 80s to low 90’s. Read Less

This was our first cruise of any kind, and it exceeded our expectations. The ship was clean and well-organized, with helpful and pleasant staff. Monika, our cruise manager, was very knowledgeable and professional, and I think her skills played a big role in how much we enjoyed the cruise. Shore excursions were well-organized, and nearly all of the tour guides were very knowledgeable and competent. It worked well to group us by activity level (or walking speed) for the shore excursions, and in general the group size was manageable for a each activity. The weather was very hot during the entire cruise, and the guides did a good job of finding shade and adapting the pace of the tour for the weather conditions. I thought the "Taste of Bratislava" activity was especially good. (Of course, on a cruise you can only get an introduction to each location, because there isn't time for a more in-depth visit.) We were fortunate about the size of the ship - the water level on the Danube was very low, but the AmaViola was able to sail all the way from Vilshofen to Budapest. (After our cruise, we talked to people who were on other, larger ships that could not complete their cruises and had to be bused back and forth.) Our cabin was comfortable, and there was adequate space for two people and our belongings. The bathroom made good use of the available space. Temperature controls in the cabin worked fine once we got used to the system. Food on the AmaViola was consistently very good, and we enjoyed the regional wines that were served with meals. The breakfast buffet featured an enormous variety of items, and the evening meals had a nice range of options. The only meal that wasn't top-notch was the barbecue picnic on the sun deck - and that was mostly due to the very hot weather. Monika and the ship's crew kept us well-informed about activities, procedures and safety instructions. We would definitely recommend AmaWaterways cruises. Read Less

Overall, the cruise was a big disappointment. 1st river cruise after more than 20 ocean cruises. New boat, but of course very small. Upgraded rooms (double balcony, full size shower) only about 200 square feet. However, clean, modern, adequate air conditioning. Arrived at dock approximately 6 hours before embarkation. Staff was outstanding, allowing us to wait on board until checkin. Location of dock in Amsterdam was not conducive to exploration of the immediate neighborhood (industrial warehouses, mounds of rotting garbage, homeless, extensive graffiti). However, 15-20 minute walk would get you to the old town historic area. Mostly elderly guests (average age approximately 75 plus. We are in our early 50's). On board, dining choices were fine. Staff was again outstanding. We are not a fan of open seating, but most of the time the same tables were available (with the same staff). Breakfast and lunch were buffet style, with some menu only items. Any/all alcoholic beverages were included at meals and Happy Hour. Otherwise, pay as you go. Extremely scaled down menu available in the lounge at lunchtime. Do not expect any onboard activities on a ship this size. Following dinner, music/dancing is available in the small lounge. On three nights, outside entertainment came aboard, but after 1-1.5 hours, they were rushed off. Little about the experience matches the brochure. The Rhine is an industrial river. Aside from a single day passing through the Rhine Gorge (and seeing many castles you cannot visit), the shore is dotted with warehouses and businesses. Because of the heat, very few guests could use the top deck. However, the small pool was an oasis. At no port could you walk off the boat and easily access the town/village/city. A 30 to 90 minute bus ride was required for most excursions, with a mostly unorganized guide babbling in disjointed stream of consciousness. Following the tour, you were given 1-2 hours to explore the area, then it's back on the bus. In one port, guests were allowed off at 9:00 am and the ship sailed at 1:00pm. Overall, an extremely structured cruise, with little time for getting to know the towns. Do not take the cruise in the summertime. Blistering hot in each port. Most shops and restaurants are not air conditioned. I can hear the complaints of "spoiled americans", but for the cost or the trip, and where we live (New Orleans), we were looking forward to a break from the heat. Many active shore excursions (biking, active hiking) were cancelled by the tour guides due to the heat. Each excursion visited a cathedral or castle/fort, but most of the tours consisted of small tourist shops filled with Chinese manufactured trinkets. Shopping is definitely off the list, with prices ranging from 2-3 times the cost in the U.S. Post-cruise travel to Luzern was the best part. Skip the boat and stay there for 7 nights. Zurich is just another large city. Nothing special. In conclusion, do not expect the history filled, romantic getaway described in the literature. Though not the "voyage of the living dead" of an Alaska cruise, it's very close. Read Less

We decided to try a river cruise and selected this one because of the route (Budapest to Vilshofen/Munich) and good feedback we had heard about AMA Waterways. We were not disappointed! The crew and boat were fantastic. It offered a variety of shore excursions, including cycling, hiking and some special vineyard tours as it was a wine cruise. Clam Castle for example, was incredibly special, with a wine tasting and tour by the Count. The Viennese Wine tavern was great fun. And the simple walking tours in each place were all done by knowledgeable and interesting guides. The food on the boat was great, lots of it, good variety and choices and fantastic service. The wine and beer also really good. The ages of the guests was broader than expected, with some families with kids, lots of extended families and couples and friends in their 40s to 60s. Of all that, the thing that really made the trip was the crew. From our fantastic captain, to Rachel our incredibly funny and kind Cruise Manager, Zoran our wonderful security manager, to restaurant staff, and housekeeping staff, everyone was friendly, helpful, loved what they do, and really wanted to ensure that all guests had a great time. We will definitely do another river cruise on AMA waterways. Read Less

We started our journey two days prior to our 10 night cruise on the AMAPrima by acclimating to the time change (9 hour time difference from CA) in Zurich, something we highly recommend regardless of your starting disembarkation point. Get acclimated to the time change then hit the cruise. The train from Zurich to Basel took us through the heart of Zurich to the pastoral countryside on the way to Basel which was a short one hour ride. Upon arriving to our disembarkation point in Basel we were warmly greeted by the crew who took our luggage to be delivered on board for us to our cabin. Our cabin was located on the upper level with a balcony and french balcony. We sat outside everyday on the balcony as our preferred morning ritual that was quiet and scenic and very fun when going through the various locks. The cabin was spacious with a European Queen bed (King size bed in U.S) that was perfectly soft yet firm with great pillows for us side sleepers. You can spend time in your room and it is perfectly acceptable, but the ship offers so much more with the sun deck, rear private dining room (open for day use and a perfect place for a game of cards. Because of the incredible weather, we spent most of our time on the front bow in the shade, or on the Sun deck (which had to close on a number of days due to low bridges and locks) or the upper deck in front of the wheel house which was an ideal spot for our cruise through the middle Rhine gorge where dozens of castles dot the hillsides Each night we were greeted with happy hour and signature cocktails in advance of dinner and made the most of it each night with free cocktails expertly crafted by our new friend Namenia, and Sebastian who were great bartenders and hosts each night. We chose AMA because of their culinary rating above many of the competitive cruise lines, and we were not disappointed. Each night there was a Chef's Recommended Menu along with standard offerings served tableside by excellent waitstaff. When it comes to the wine and beer, you never have to ask for it because it just shows up and keeps flowing. Two days in and the staff knew our likes and dislikes and anticipated our desires. Truly a great dining experience each day. Breakfast and lunch offer similar offerings with extraordinary items and standard fare. The chef’s table dining room provides an intimate experience and not to be missed with an expert five course prix fixe menu delivered to perfection each night (same menu assures that all passengers have a chance to dine here). Onshore excursions were expertly guided by local historians and enthusiasts who all spoke English and told insightful stories with details of history, origin and thinking of the time. The guided tours were fun, but we also chose on more than one occasion to make our own way and to experience the local color more directly. Something to note is that of all of the shore excursions there are only three that require you to bus to the tour location; Riquewihr, Strasbourg and Heidelberg. Otherwise you can walk off the ship and you are in the heart of your destination. Each day allows for some form of excursion off ship, as much of the cruising is at night. We are already looking forward to our next cruise with AMA on the Danube. Nest time we plan to go with one or two other couples as this first trip was just my wife and me. We want to share the experiance with others. Read Less

I was part of an alumni group of 19 people who sailed together. The pre-cruise package in Prague was attended by all but two of our participants. That add-on was worth it and the quality of the Prague Intercontinental Hotel and Czech Republic tours was well worth it. The water level on the Danube was low so we were not able to embarkation was moved from Nuremberg to Vilshofen. The embarkation process was very well organized. Our cruise manager did a great job in organizing similar if not identical experiences. By Tuesday, we were back to a normal schedule. Dining (including wine and food) was top notch. I found the dining room staff to be very hospitable and the food (both from the buffet and from the menu) was delicious and offered enough assortments to keep the experience feeling fresh. Sign up for the optional Chef's Table experience -- we loved our dinner in the special dining room. The staff on the entire ship was excellent -- genuine smiles, great customer service, and a commitment to making sure that everyone had a top-notch experience. This was a perfect way to visit 4 countries and 8 cities along the Danube - Beautiful cities - Beautiful ship - Great Service We had never done a cruise of any type - and based on research selected AmaWaterways - we are very glad we did - We traveled with an adult daughter with physical limitations and every part of the trip, the ship and the excursions were suited for her ... The "Easy or Relaxed" excursions - the elevator on the ship and the super attentive AMA Employees made this trip so easy for all of us. The ship is outstanding and the service from all of the employees could not have been better. Every part of the ship was spotless and stayed that way throughout our trip - The "lounge area and upper deck of the ship nicely decorated and always clean - and great places to relax or meet up with people. - The staff worked so hard and could not have been more attentive. The food was outstanding throughout the cruise - The menu changed daily depending on the region and country we were traveling but there was always several options for people not wanting to try the regional food - and the presentation of the food - Breakfast, lunch & dinner looked like food out of a magazine - and was served with a smile - If you wanted something prepared or cooked differently - they made it happen - The selection of wine and cocktails was great throughout the trip - The dining room was beautiful - and the layout and design made you feel like your were in a very nice restaurant and not a dining room of a ship... We really can not think of one thing that was not outstanding !! We are already talking about our next trip on AMA and have recommended to friends... My husband and I have done about 5 other cruises but never before have we experienced a river cruise. I selected AMA after reading reviews on Cruise Critic. Every step of the way was carefully choreographed. We were met in Munich as soon as we excited the airport. We were chauffeured to the ship and when we arrived embarkation was a matter of minutes. So different from a huge cruise ship. There were 150 passengers and most were friendly. AMA's cruise director, Camille, did all she could to make everyone feel welcome. She inspired a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. She was efficient, announcing various events and very good at getting people to participate. The food was wonderful, often in keeping with the area we were entering. The chef's table was not to be missed. The ship itself was very elegant lacking the glitz of cruise ships. Everything is included; all excursions, food, wine and beer and signature cocktails every evening. There were no photo shoots, no dress up nights, no barely talented entertainment. The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. It was not at all difficult to be by yourself. . In other words, there were enough areas that crowding was never an issue. The only downside with a river boat is that it is not unlikely to have a ship tied along side so use of the balcony is difficult. Other than that, everything was fantastic even the size of the bathroom! There were many choices in excursions and the pace of them. There were bikes available. A river boat can get right up to the town so if you are docked there overnight you can come and go easily. The entertainment varied with the port. We had nights of incredibly talented musicians. I would book another soon. Read Less

Sometimes when you cruise multiple times on a particular line, current expectations don't meet past cruise experiences. Not so with AMA. Each cruise is as good if not better than previous ones. Our 11 day Rhine & Moselle Fairytales cruise was no exception. Everything from the service to the food to the cabin to the ship and personnel to the itinerary was impeccable and first class. AMA is in a class alone and can't imagine ever cruising Europe's rivers on another line. Dejean is one of the hardest working cruise managers we have ever been involved with. He was always pleasant and ready to engage in conservation or discuss cruise details. Captain Gerd is the most accessible captain we have known. Bigger than life personality, he would welcome you in the wheelhouse and loved to talk boat and navigation stuff. We really enjoyed getting to know him. Hotel manager, Patrice always greeted you with a smile and wanted to know if everything was alright with our cruise. His staff did a wonderful job. Maitre'd Pawel greeted us at in the dining room with a smile and a hearty handshake. Thanks again for your help in the grocery store in Kues. The variety and quality of food on the AMAPrima is awesome. Our cabin was perfect. We used both the balcony and the french balcony. A lot of room, storage space, big bathroom and comfortable beds. We were a little disappointed with the variety of entertainment, but knowing that this was the first cruise on this itinerary, it could be expected. We, however, enjoyed listening to Norbert's piano each evening...sometimes singing along or dancing. The AMAPrima has some of the friendliest staff we have experienced. All to a person greeted you with a smile, made each guest feel like family and wanted to make sure you were have a great cruise. The excursions were well planned as always and interesting. AMA makes this process very easy and Dejean carried out the plans very well. The AMAPrima as with all AMA ships is beautiful, clean and very functional. We regularly used the top deck lounges. We would highly recommend AMA when cruising Europe's rivers. You'll love an AMA ship experience. Thanks AMA for another fantastic cruise. Read Less

This cruise was chosen specifically because of the itinerary. It went from Amsterdam to Basel and for 11 days. Our cruise manager was Dejan Stancic and was absolutely one of the most fabulous and entertaining person! He made us smile and laugh each evening when he provided the passengers (guests) with previews and information for upcoming ports. He was very knowledgable and approachable so it was easy to ask questions of any kind that would help make your trip even better. The rest of the staff were absolutely awesome, all were friendly and smiling, we always looked forward to meals and just being anywhere on board because they made us feel like family quickly. The captain, crew and hotel manager were also very friendly. What a great time we had! The ports were fabulous (read the itinerary in the brochure) and there also was a few relaxing mornings on the ship so we did not need to rush as much like the seven day cruises would be. Of course, the views on the Rhine and Moselle were gorgeous and seeing the castles dotting the hillsides (as Dajan said, you would be seeing so many on each side of the ship that you would begin to feel like a ping pong ball!) This was truly a fairytale experience! The ship was beautiful, the cabins spotless and embarkation/disembarkation experiences were seamless. Thank you AMAPRIMA for this wonderful and memorable cruise!!! Loved every second of it. Read Less

We chose Ama Waterways for our second European river cruise because of an excellent experience on a previous Rhine River cruise. We were not disappointed. Everything with Ama is first-class - staterooms, ship facilities, excursions, dining logistics...but most of all the PEOPLE. Am a employs a team of professionals dedicated to ensuring your complete satisfaction with every facet of your cruise. Boarding in Passau was efficient and our stateroom was ready for us as promised. We were greeted with a complimentary bottle of champagne to celebrate our anniversary. At the welcome reception we were introduced to key members of the staff who each promised a memorable cruise experience. Meals onboard were prepared using fresh, local ingredients. The menu was selected to match the cuisine of the country or region being visited. Wine with meals was also locally selected and was always complimentary. The desserts were masterpieces! The daily excursions were varied and informative. Excursions were always offered based on the ability level of the guests ("Active Walkers", "Normal Pacing" and "Gentle Walkers"). Bicycle tours were available as well, several of which were pleasantly challenging. Local guides were always knowledgable, friendly and accommodating. Logistically, Ama does it right. Disembarkation was expertly coordinated to match the varied schedules of 135+ guests. In our case, a cab was waiting at the appointed time to take us to our hotel in Budapest and our luggage was delivered from our stateroom directly to the cab. Other guests were provided with airport transfers as needed with timing coordinated to match flight times. Our Cruise Manager, Reka Piros, was the star of an excellent, professional staff. Reka always seemed to be there when needed, providing help, advice, or just a smile to let guests know they were valued and appreciated. We asked her help in choosing restaurants for our post-cruise stay in Budapest and she gladly provided excellent recommendations. Consider yourself very fortunate if you find yourself on one of Reka's cruises! Overall, this cruise rates 5+ stars. We are already planning our 3rd Ama cruise! Read Less

The crew was excellent in every way. They couldn’t have been nicer or more friendly. The ship was clean and kept beautifully the entire trip. We saw crew cleaning every inch along the way. The “sip and sail” activity every evening encouraged passengers to meet and get to know each other in a welcoming environment. We had a large group from St Louis and enjoyed meeting other passengers with varied and entertaining backgrounds. Every activity was well planned and all details handled so all we had to do was enjoy the fun. Guides were excellent and knowledgeable. All tickets along the way were covered. We couldn’t be happier. Our favorite moments were the Mozart Strauss concert in Vienna, the bike ride in Durnnstein, seeing “The KISS” at the Belvedere museum in Vienna, our excursions to Salzburg and Cesky Krumlov, and hike to the Passau castle. My sons are half Bohemian so I am happy to bring them news of the Czech Republic and Slovakia, a sister country. Read Less

My wife and I have done around 25 cruises. We have never had the level of service provided on this cruise. We spent a few nights in Prague before boarding the ship. Highly recommend doing this. Its a beautiful city. We also added days at the end in Budapest. Very nice cities. The tours that AmaWaterways provided in both cities were very helpful in orienting us to the city. Plus the tours had great local guides. The hotels were top notch on great locations. This ship was not crowded. Plenty of room on the deck, restaurant or lounge. Very relaxing. My wife and I went alone. So we sat with others to eat or relax. Even tho this is not normally my thing it worked very well on this trip. The included wine may have helped . Met a lot of great people from many places around the world. The food provided at lunch was local a number of times. German food when we were in Germany goulash in Hungary ETC. very good. Dinner was high end and very good. The service was great. Very accommodating and very well trained. The room was laid out well, the bath and shower was nice. and we had no issues. If you don't want to walk as far request a room towards the lounge area. You will save a few steps. The ports were really nice and the local guides were great. If you are comparing to other ships consider this fact. The tour guides were very good. The quiet vox listening device is in your cabin to use on tours. This is really nice because you can hear even when you stop to take photos. Kudos to Roxy, Carman, Pasquel and Christian. Only names I can remember. The entire staff was great. Our room 324 was made up perfect every time. We wanted for nothing. With Christian managing the cruise and PasqueI managing the house everything was just right.I could do a review on these 2 they are that good. I didn't even mention the nighttime light tour in Budapest. Oh my. Just book it. Read Less
