I am in my early 50’s. Have been lucky to travel extensively . Have done 6 ocean cruises, many all inclusives and city travel. This was our first river cruise. We chose AMA as our travel agent recommended them due to their level of service, amenities and included tours. We chose the itinerary as we were able to see the Netherlands, Germany, France, Switzerland in one week. Wanted to see the ...
This was our fifth Ama cruise and the first since Covid; I'm glad we went, but there were some issues that made me drop my rating to four stars.
Let me start with the things that went right: the ship was comfortable; our room was big enough and had storage in the right places (and bedside power, for which we were grateful). Most of the crew was great to interact with, especially our room ...
First time river cruisers and on AMA Waterways. We cruised north on the Danube from Budapest to Nuremberg on the Sonata which was at 50% capacity (Just prior to the elimination of the return air travel Covid test requirement). The service and attention to detail were wonderful. Cruise Manager Frederico was always available and helpful at every turn. Hotel Manager Miguel was a delight. We were ...
After not traveling for 2 years we were eager to go. We did other amacruises in the past ( Danube, Vietnam). The experience was amazing, the experiences they gave us visiting quintas and gardens were very well organized and interesting. We also enjoyed Salamanca. Entertainment onboard was not great and the food mediocre. The worst was the service in the dining room, we never knew what our ...
We are long time cruisers and decided to try river cruising. Unfortunately we chose AMA for this canal sailing to Belgium and Netherlands.
Checkin was easy. My first floor room was as expected, small but adequate. My only room complaint is there seems to be some mold in the room as I often had allergy symptoms only while in the room, my only allergy is to mold.
The personnel was ...
This was our 9th river cruise but our first on AMA. We have also been on more that 45 ocean cruises as well. It is advertised as a deluxe cruise line, but we did not find it to be that.
Portugal and the Douro River are beautiful and the tours for the most part were ok, but the food was not good, the breakfast buffet was good but the few lunches served on board and the dinners were not good. ...
Hello Babs28,
Thank you very much for sharing your recent experience here on Cruise Critic. We were very sorry to read your review and learn that certain aspects of your first river cruise...
The AMA staff from pre trip to post trip were great. Everyone on boat was very nice and accommodating. We loved the tours, loved the people, enjoyed the boat!
Many passengers lost luggage and had to go shopping in Madrid for new outfits! The luggage finally made it but one passenger had to wait eight days.
Unfortunately SO many people on our trip came down with Covid... We were never ...
We previously sailed from Amsterdam to Budapest on Ama Viola in 2019 and enjoyed it so much we wanted to take another cruise with Ama. Nikola was an excellent cruise manager for our trip. The ship's crew was consistently excellent with special kudos to Elena's beverage service.
Cruise highlights for us included Keukenhof Gardens, Kolsch beer tasting, the Moselle River portion, and ...
Our first river cruise, and it was a wonderful change from ocean cruising. Knowing that we would not be getting the ocean vessel experience we were accustomed to, we were looking forward to seeing what small vessel river cruising was like, and it turned out to be wonderful. Attention to detail, personal attention, and superb food made this a rich experience. You get most of this on an ocean ...
Experienced ocean cruisers and European travelers, we chose this opportunity to get a closer look at Normandy. We were delighted again and again! Petrus, our waiter was warm, welcoming and very helpful as he guided us through a delicious and delightful menu with great variety. Our Maitre’D, Christian and Assistant waiter , Anda, made every meal a pleasure. We felt like family!
The tours were ...
