Generally good cruise, food sub par

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on AmaPrima

We took this cruise on the recommendation of our travel agent. Generally, the cruse was fine - rooms were nice, better than expected. Excursions were interesting and well handled. Only problem, and it's a pretty big problem, was the food was awful. Dining experience was very nice - great service and presentation. The issue was the food was very bland and tasteless. Variety was ok, but just ...

It was a wonderful cruise but I am bothered by a couple of things. Fourth AMA cruise. One of the pre cruise hotels were awful, horrible stay I am pretty sure bedbug ridden. On my first AMA cruise, people came to dinner like they were going to a country club for dinner. A dress shirt and real pants and the ladies in slacks and a blouse. It was event. Last couple of cruises , people coming to ...

We chose this cruise line and trip based on a recommendation from a good friend who took this trip last year. We flew into Amsterdam and sailed the Rhine for 7 days to Basel. Booking the trip with an Amawaterway rep was easy. One call to Jonathan and he made all the arrangements and flight details. He was responsive to our questions and kept us informed before our trip. We even got upgraded to ...

AMA gets an "A"

We had heard good things about AMA and had previously travelled with Viking, Avalon, and Amadeus. The ship was 4 years old and well maintained. The restaurant was on the lower deck as usual but I found the windows to be small and the view limited. The food? Very good on the whole with lots of choice with wine or beer included. The cruise director was young but very assured and had a good sense of ...

Magical Christmas Markets on the Rhine

Pre Cruise: The vacation started off in the worst possible fashion with all our luggage being mislaid en route to Europe. Equipped with only a small carry-on bag we duly arrived at the Westcord City Centre Hotel, sans our suitcases, for a three night pre cruise stay in Amsterdam. Although our room was very small, the Westcord was reasonably priced and proved to be an ideal base for ...

Great First River Cruise; Pros and Cons

We have never been on a cruise of any kind and chose AMA based on the recommendation of a friend/travel agent. We were looking for a ship with a small number of passengers and a solid reputation. AMA is apparently known for the food onboard and bundled activities - both did not disappoint. The staff on board were all fantastic and well trained in customer service. Extra effort was made by all ...

Having recently returned to cruising and having experienced Oceania and Azamara in 2015 we thought that we would give river cruising a go. We spent Xmas in the Rhineland some years ago and had good memories of it so this itinerary - Treasures of the Main and Rhine appealed. Our package included flights so we flew into Munich where we were met by a taxi van and taken on the 1 and a half hour ...

Holiday Markets

AMA Prima. All river cruises are tight quarters and while this ship has a small lift, expect narrow stairs onboard and possibly multiple stairs when tied next to another ship at a port as one passes through the adjoining ship and may require up and over passage. The central european staff was generally young, professional, well managed and hard working. The recommended tip amounts are a minimum, ...

We flew to Munich to spend 4 days on our own exploring before heading to Nuremberg to board the Prima on November 30th. This was our first riverboat cruise and we weren't sure what to expect. The ship itself was lovely and fully decorated for the Christmas holidays which added to the atmosphere. Embarkation very smooth, quick and easy. Baggage in our cabin quickly. The crew were wonderful. ...

This was our first river cruise so we have nothing to compare it with other than luxury ocean cruising with Silversea and Regent. It was called "Great Capitals and Vintage of the Danube". It started with a 3-day land pre-extension in Prague (based in the very nice Hilton Old Town), followed by a 7-day cruise from Vilshofen to Budapest. It was a wine-themed cruise, with multiple on-board tastings ...
