My friend and I chose this repositioning cruise because of the great itinerary and even better price. Embarkation was relatively quick and straightforward; complicated only by unprofessional and unpleasant power-mad ground staff in the holding area. Once onboard, we soon had a drink in hand and were exploring the ship (second time on this ship for me). The ship is elegant, clean and well set out. It is easy to get around - we chose a cabin at the back of the ship for ease in getting to the Windjammer, MDR and Diamond club. While slightly tucked away, interior cabin 9477 was comfortable, clean and so quiet! My bed was on its last legs and needed to be replaced but I still slept well. We struggled a little for storage and only had 6 coat hangers between 2 of us. We asked for more but received only plastic hangers for trousers which were no use to 2 females, so get in early with your hanger requests if you are short. The pool and sun decks were great, but good luck in trying to get a Solarium sunbed in the sun after 7am... I was pleased that Royal has turned down the volume on the outdoor pool screen - so much more peaceful than with that noise blasting out. The bar staff all over the ship were friendly and quick. The shows in the theatre were a bit hit and miss with some of the singers being better than others. There were also a number of one-off shows which clashed with second seating dinner, which was annoying. I was disappointed that there was only 1 ice show on a 12 night cruise and I question what is the point in having an ice rink and skaters if not to perform? Some of the comedians were funny, others less so. I guess that comes down to personal taste. The piano singer in the Schooner bar was great and we enjoyed the various parties on the Promenade. The food on this ship was outstanding. The food and service in the MDR was fantastic and the quality and choice in the Windjammer was impressive. We also enjoyed the snacks on the Promenade for lighter bites. In my view, there is no need to pay for speciality dining on this ship, the food is so good. We attended the Murder Mystery evening at Giovanni’s Table and had a great time with unlimited wine and great fun. Save for the filet mignon which is charged extra in the MDR, the food was no better than in the MDR, so if I’d just paid for standard speciality dining, I would have been pretty peeved. The Murder Mystery is a lot of fun so I would recommend it, if it’s your kind of thing. Aruba, Curacao and St Thomas were beautiful islands. Jolly Beach in Antigua was simply amazing. In Bonaire, we rented a golf buggy (Bonaire Cruisers) and explored the island at our leisure. This was a really fun way to explore the island and I would highly recommend it. It would just have been nice to have more time on all of the islands. The port days seemed to be pretty short. I love this size of ship as I find cruising to be more relaxing when there is no schedule to keep to, with shows etc booked months in advance due to the number of people onboard. I also noted throughout the cruise that the crew were happy in their roles and nothing was too much trouble for them, which created a really pleasant and relaxed atmosphere onboard. I’m not sure that is always the case on the Oasis class ships. Overall we had a fantastic cruise with wonderful food and drink, beautiful ports of call and good entertainment. Everything was seamless- the boat was easy to navigate, crew went above an beyond to ensure a great experience. Our inside stateroom was perfect for the two of us... many storage compartments and beds and pillows were super comfortable. Many activities for teens. Entertainment was either very good or disappointing but the parties and outdoor movies were great. Food was delicious in both dining rooms. Valentines was celebrated with a fantastic chocolate buffet. I truly appreciated how the staff encourages people to wash hands. Issues: the app isn’t reliable , announcements can’t be heard in the cabin, smoking areas are not located in great areas..... casino stinks of smoke and the smoking area on deck 11 is too close to the doors and towel station... several of the staff at the customers service desk were not fluent in English which led to mistakes and misunderstandings. Our stateroom assistant was outstanding.... he couldn’t do more for us. Read Less

As a frequent cruiser, I have maintained that Royal was my favorite line. Not so after this trip.The balcony room that I had, had a thermostat that did not work, toilet that never would flush without manual assistance, and mattress and pillows that were so hard that some cruisers purchased "egg crates" is Quebec City to improve the condition . I repeatedly had to request tissues and toilet paper. Also, there was an adjoining room that made it impossible to block out light and conversations and wake up calls were audible. Also, two of the main elevators were inoperable for the entire trip. The entire ship was without limes, raisins, Pino Grigio, Jack Daniels and paper bar napkins for the last eight days of the cruise even though we had harbored in Portland and Boston. Exiting the ship in Saint John and Bar Harbor was very poorly organized and time consuming. On board I expresssed my concerns to front desk personnel and was told that it was as it was and there was nothing to be done. Upon return, I sent a letter defining my concerns to Mr. Bayley, CEO of Royal, and in a response from a member of the Executive staff, again, none of my concerns were discussed.I was offerred a $50.00 OBC on a future cruise within the next year. With such a dismissal, do they really expect I would cruise with Royal again when there are so many options. Read Less

Service - diamond +++, they have ran out of all white Zens, there is no Chardonnay. Entertainment, C-, guess they are using the money on the bigger ships. Dining, same menu every four days, and if you are in a section with Pinnacle or Suite, you will just have to wait!. The ship is well maintained, but who ever did the planning and ordering really messed up. Plus they have been doing this run for two months, so it should be history. The on ship activities are located in small venues, such as Triva in the Scooner Bar, people are sitting on the floors and they refuse to change to the larger lounge that is one flight up. As a Diamond Plus member with over 50 cruises of various cruiselines, this was by far the worse cruise I have ever taken. The good. Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly except for someone taking my luggage instead of their own to the airport. We both departed early, yet they got the jump on me and grabbed their bag. Port Everglades Royal Agent Maggie was excellent in confirming the passenger exited before me so we could confidently assume they took my bag which was similar. They eventually returned to the seaport when my bag was weighed at the airport. My cabin steward Richard on Deck 8 was excellent in keeping our cabin great, clean and attending to our needs and request. The bad: on Day 2 was supposed to take place at 4 pm per announcements made at 3:50 and Compass. It was cold and drizzling in Quebec City. Due to the delay of Royal excursions, while most of us stood either outside or inside (certainly not even enough seats for the elderly) for 45 minutes the emergency drill whistles did not go off until 4:30 and the muster did not end until 4:45. With 1300 elites on board, two of the four elevators to the Diamond and Suite lounges were inoperable the entire 13 night cruise, leaving most to have to walk up. While four contractors were visible on occasion working on the elevators, I mostly saw them in the Windjammer eating vs actually working. Needless to say there were not enough room or seats, even when the overflow were allowed into the Viking Crown. I did not see the Diamond Concierge until Day three, as he was out sick due to back pain for the first two days. The first two nights of the D event were by far the most disorganized. When he did return he was unable to book reservations for the times we wanted, although we tried on our own to book specialty reservations immediately when we embarked. He rarely left his desk and didn’t get up and chat with any passengers. Due to the cold weather and age of the average passenger, the ship seemed to be overly crowded as no one was on the pool deck and their did not seem to be enough seats in the interior. The Adventure Solarium is not covered so it too was too cold to attract passengers during its voyage. Finally when we reached warmer climate and the ability to use my balcony, I get a letter stating I may NOT use my balcony from 9-4 while docked in Port Canaveral while they varnish my balcony rail. So of two days I can sit out, one I can’t. They should have done it earlier in our cruise when it was too cold to sit out. During our Portland Lighthouse ship tour, we left late because the bus they sent did not know how to operate the wheelchair lift as we had a passenger who needed that service. The driver mentioned they only have a couple of these types of lifts and it was the first time he was using it. Again, everyone was held off the bus in the cold while they figured it out. I felt badly for the woman in the wheelchair as well. She only got off at one lighthouse. the food hardly changed from day to day in the Windjammer. Other than carving station, the offerings were the same. I will say I think Royal’s desserts were good. Giovanni’s menu was awful. It was small and how can an Italian restaurant not offer lasagna. Chops was no better. Actually the filet mignon was better in Giovannis. TV offerings were awful. Royal did not take the weather or audience into consideration. Showing two movies a day at least OUTSIDE where the weather was awful. I would have gone to a movie in the theater during the bad weather. We skipped Sydney and did not get an updated compass until 4 pm. Yet with bad weather, we witnessed their lifeguards mandated to stand in the cold empty swimming pools. I guess they lost some lawsuit, but it looked and was insane to make the lifeguards do this when there were no children in the pool and I believe only 7 onboard. I only saw two children and a poodle. Horrible management on this sailing. MDR people and cabin steward were great but there was a total lack of concern by everyone else. Missed a port due to bad weather, cold, rain. They think it's a wonderful thing to show movies outside. What happened to streaming in rooms considering the weather! Large ship but other than trivia, not much else going on. Even the solarium wasn't covered. The evening reception was wall to wall people. Claimed they couldn't put in a larger venue because they promised the space to Park West!! During that time, the imperial loung was vacant!! In the meantime, no monitoring of who belongs in the evening reception other than,someone look quickly at you sea pass card going into the diamond lounge. The m ale shift bar, nobody the ked. Of course you could haced easily given your card to anybody. Who would have known? Suffice it to say, many NON Diamond on up passengers were able to benefit from the free drinks etc. from 4:30 to 8. To add insult to injury, we wanted to disembark in Canaveral 1 day early and planned it prior to sailing. Told $65 to do that. Challenged it with Miami, no luck. Found out that passengers that decided to get off earlier while onboard the cruise, NO CHARGE!!! Not rumor. Guest relations verified it and said we had to discuss with Miami. Used to be, as they say, loyal to Royal". Now the million dollar question, WHY? There were so many disgusted passengers on this cruise so I know this is not an isolated case, sadly. We are diamond plus, but with this treatment, are the perks worth it? Read Less

Ports of Call! Started in Quebec City and docked in Nova Scotia, Halifax, Portland, Boston and then to Florida. Our Cabin was situated near the elevator which was nice. The elevators however were horrendous. They were doing maintenance on 2 elevators which made it difficult but what made it frustrating was that the other elevators would bypass our floor with one or two people on them. This was a major gripe of just about all passengers. The staff was terrific. We had only one or two exceptions to that review. The Chops Grille was just okay. Giovanni's and Izumi were both fabulous. Exiting the ship at the ports of call could have gone better. In some instances we waited on long lines to get off. The shows were pretty amazing. RC dancers and ice shows were great. The Tenors of Las Vegas did a great job as did the pick pocket. Giovanni, the pianist was awesome...great entertainer...lots of fun. We took a tour to Peggy Cove and also to Kennebunkport. Both were fabulous. Very informative and picturesque. However, the daily activities were just so-so. Very repetitive. Coffee bar on 5 was good and had a nice variety of food. We chose anytime dining. It was mostly good. The Windjammer was okay. Desserts were the same for the most part and were just okay. The sweets in the Windjammer were the same every day. There were a few good things but probably not worth the calories. The one very positive thing was the staff. Most were eager to please and could not be more helpful. This was our first RC cruise. We will probably stick with Celebrity or chose another line in the future. Read Less

Joe and I love cruising. We have always been 'Loyal to Royal' and are Diamond Plus--not that it matters, except it is relevant to our experiences on this cruise. It started out well--the air connections the cruise line arranged worked out well, though they were time-comsuming. We got to the airport in Quebec City tired after 17 hours of traveling. We had asked RCI for an airport to hotel transport (their choice hotel) and were told none were available (18 months before the cruise.) When we got to the airport, there were Royal Caribbean representatives collecting people for transport to the hotel. They would not include us since we had no reservation with them. So we hit the taxi stand. We told the dispatcher there that we wanted to go to the Marriott Courtyard Hotel. He quoted us the price for going to downtown Quebec City. Since we knew no better, we said okay and he called a cab. The driver again asked us where we were going and we told him the Marriott Courtyard. He said 'Which One?', and we were stymied. We thought there was only one, and had no address for it. He claimed there were two and took us to the one downtown. Well, the one downtown was NOT a Courtyard, and was twice the fare it would have cost to get to the 'Courtyard'. So we had to call another cab and pay another fare. Grrrrrr. Checkin the next day was less than perfect--no priority boarding, long lines, and at least one less than friendly cattle herder. However, room was good, dining and wait staff were good, and room attendant was good. Now we get to the really rude awakening: Happy Hour-4:30pm-8pm. This spring we had sailed on the Brilliance on a repositioning cruise from Tampa to Amsterdam. They, like Adventure on this cruise, had a HUGE percentage of Diamond and above cruisers (who but us old geezers and rich whippersnappers have the time for a repositioning cruise?) Unlike Adventure, they had prepared for it. The staff on Brilliance turned their largest 'ballroom' area into a diamond lounge, with a different theme and entertainment every night. We were happy, and the non-diamond passengers were happy because the other bars weren't packed with us monopolizing them for drinks off our allotted 3 a night. Everyone had a relaxing, pleasant voyage. In contrast, on Adventure the 43-seat diamond lounge was FULL from breakfast through 8 pm. The Viking Crown was almost as bad. If you weren't in a seat there by 2:30 pm, you could forget Happy Hour. For us, it isn't just about drinks. This is our socializing time. We enjoy talking to other couples. The ones we meet at Happy Hour have experiences similar to ours. It is easy to start a conversation and one thing leads to another--we have had some really good times in the Diamond Lounge on other cruises, including on Adventure. Sometimes the free drinks we get are Cokes--we're too old for sustained booze. Unlike Brilliance, this time the experience on Adventure was more like Mayhem. It was packed. If you got there at 2:30 so you actually had a seat, it was hard to carry on a conversation with all the people standing around your chair waiting for you to vacate it. The crew appeared powerless to change anything. Their 'fix' for 13 nights of mayhem was a final night show and buffet--both of which were so crowded you couldn't see the show or get to the buffet. Adventure and RCI, you need to do better--MUCH better! Now for the good stuff! The absolute best part of the cruise was the carriage ride in Acadia National Park. After a whole lot of rain and cold, we lucked out and got sunshine and mild temps for our excursion. The draft horses that pulled our 8-passenger wagon were Moses and Molly. It was an hour of absolutely gorgeous fall colors, trees, a driver who carried on a leisurely and intelligent commentary--more like a conversation--with us, stops to watch deer, and just a wonderful time enjoying the world we're blessed with. It was one of those experiences I'll have a hard time ever repeating. Take a look at the picture I'm attaching and you'll get some idea of what I mean. The other really good excursion was to the Anne of Green Gables House. If you've read any of Maude Montgomery's books, you'll really enjoy this one. If you haven't--at least take the walking trails. They are really worth doing. When we were there, it was a slow, dripping rain. We went through the house first. Best thing there was seeing the cupboard where 'the raspberry cordial' was kept. You have to read the book to appreciate it. After heading outside, we took the 'Lover's Leap' path. It was beautiful, and brought back memories of Montgomery's descriptions of where the children played. There were trees, a brook, a bridge across it, and steps leading upward. Definitely a fun adventure. Well, by this time we were soaked, our time to meet the bus was near, and although I wanted to do the other path, I had to go. Hope there's a next time! I'll try to add the picture I took on the path to my uploads. Adventure is a good ship. She has some really good folks in her crew. This was our fourth cruise on her and we enjoyed them all. Captain Szynkarczuk appeared to be very professional, and concerned only with the operation and command of his vessel--a very good thing, considering we had some stormy weather on the cruise, an unscheduled return to port for medical reasons, and some ticklish navigational situations. My impression is that he is a bit uncomfortable around passengers. He could stand to unbend just a bit. We're really not a bad lot. If you haven't taken this cruise, do it. I'm sure RCI will fix the Diamond Lounge problem, and all the Canadian and New England ports are well worth it. I just may go again myself. I want to walk that other path on PEI and take the longer carriage ride at Acadia. See you onboard! Read Less

Although the weather was not the best, this cruise offered a very interesting and fun itinerary including Canadian, New England and, finally, Florida ports. They did a good job of both embarkation and disembarkation, especially considering the large number of passengers boarding at the small terminal in Quebec City. The ship is in good shape, and qualifies as not too big and not too small. The food and service in the Main Dining Room is the best we’ve had in years—waiters were attentive always and actually did some of the “old fashioned” things like pull out the lady’s chair and spread your cloth napkin! The food and service in the buffet Windjammer also was good, both at lunch and breakfast, with many food choices. There were some very good, original performers in the Lyric Theatre on several nights—unfortunately, the performance times kept changing from night to night and we missed some shows because showtime cut into dinner time. The Schooner Lounge is a good place for the usual sing-along music, and was packed every night. But the ship could definitely upgrade the live music in the lounges, and increase the amount of time the singers and musicians play. Several of the lounges also need improved drink service. Also, there were no enrichment talks related to the interesting ports we visited—we especially missed this since the poor weather precluded everyone from spending very much time on the outside deck so there was little to do. Lastly, our cabin was very good (spacious balcony)—attendants kept everything tip top. Only complaint is that RCCL no longer provides bathrobes. Read Less

We choose this cruise for the northeast ports of call. This was a repositioning cruise from Quebec City to Fort Lauderdale. We booked a Panoramic Oceanview cabin which we just loved. When first booked I tried to check reviews for our cabin on Cruise Critic but was advised there are no staterooms on deck 12. Got a bit worried about that bit of news. The addition of staterooms on deck 12 began last year in dry dock but was cut short due to hurricane. Construction was completed in February of this year. Very large room with ample drawer and closet space. Weather was cold and windy, but that was to be expected because of the time of year. Did not have warm weather until day 11 off the Florida coast. Had most of our meals in Windjammer and this was better than expected for a buffet. I highly recommend the Panorama Oceanview stateroom. I do not know how many more of the RCL ships are being outfitted with these additions but I think it was a great idea. The wall to wall floor to ceiling window gives all the view of a balcony without the heat, cold, wind, rain and smoke. Embarkation in Quebec City was a bit slow and the lines were long, but I would do this cruise again, after doing all of the other cruises I have in my bucket list. Read Less

We loved this itinerary - 13 relaxing days along the eastern shores of Canada/New England to take in the fall foliage; however, Mother Nature had other plans! Needless to say, we were disappointed to learn that the ship would not be docking in Sydney, NS as planned and therefore, our Taste of the Cabot Trail excursion was cancelled. We had a few other disappointments - Royal rescheduled our booked and paid-for Bottomless champagne brunch and galley tour to a date that conflicted with another shore excursion so we had to cancel. Luckily we were reimbursed. I'd love to write about our experience at Chops Grill, but Royal again moved our reservation without informing us - so we missed it. Luckily I had printed our cruise planner itinerary because Royal staff insisted at first that the mistake was ours and therefore non-refundable. They apologized once they realized the mistake was indeed theirs! Despite these mishaps, we had a wonderful vacation! Our cabin was spacious and well laid out - never had an issue with space. The furnishings are showing some age, but that's to be expected. Our cabin steward, Mary, was terrific and so friendly! Our room was conveniently one floor below the Windjammer - and you'd never know it - we never heard any kitchen noise. I can't comment too much on the Windjammer - we hardly ate there. Our cruise was made up largely of older folks - no problem with that - but we learned they wake early which meant breakfast there was always busy and finding a table difficult. Do yourself a favour and head to the Dining Room on the 3rd floor - much more civilized! And speaking of the Dining Room, we chose to eat there every night and we were never disappointed. That's probably because our Wait-staff (Jose, Helga and Josue) were amazing - we looked forward to our dining experience. And we thoroughly enjoyed the meals - a lot of variety which meant we were never disappointed with our selections. Our belts are a little tighter then when we first arrived on board! Loved the Promenade - from the bar to the cafe and most especially Izumi! We signed up for a sushi-making class with Renni, Virgilio and chef Jefery and loved every minute of it - we had so much fun! That might have been, in part, due to the unlimited supply of sake! Shows and entertain were fun - we went skating, then watched the ice show (how the skaters put on an A+ performance on such limited ice space is beyond us)! Late night entertainment was great - especially Jimmy Hopper (a must-see show!). We loved our cruise, and there were so many people we didn't mention - including fellow travellers we met along the way, they all helped to make our cruise an enjoyable one! In fact, we loved cruising with Royal so much, we pre-booked a New Year's cruise for 2019-20! Can't wait to come back! Read Less

I just came back from Adventure Of The Seas ... It was my first cruise and it was amazing from the beginning to end ! ... Getting on the ship in Cape liberty was quick ... We got on the ship at 11 by 1 our bags were at the rooms already .. I had a balcony room it was a nice size for two people it had a little couch also and a makeup area. The balcony was my favorite I would deff recommend to get one ... The pool area was beautiful plenty of bars the drinks were excellent!! I don’t drink a lot so I only got the refreshment package but I will deff be getting the alcohol next time .. coco cay is so nice there’s everything on it ... chairs everywhere to sit or u can upgrade and spend money on a cabana .. We did the jet ski tour it was well worth !! The boat brings ur lunch on the beach which was cool and that’s Royal Caribbean’s island so all the drinks were free if u had the package there’s all little huts and hair braiding there’s even a bar in the water ... Florida we went went to the beach with the shuttle it brought us right there and right back bet relaxing... Nassau we did the Belmont island and that was gorgeous!!! It rained on an off but it was still insanely nice the only water you can see crystal clear there was two pools optional swim with dolphins ... the only thing is the food and drinks where a little expensive but we got a few drinks and went back to the boat to eat when we were done ...The main dining room was delicious the waiter Ramil and he’s helper Pablo was the best and the room cleaner edy was great to ...The food was great every day and we did the buffet at the windjammer which had everything... I went with a group of people I am 24 and the ages were 24 to 70 andWe all had a great time it’s a family boat , single people will have a good time and a lot for kids everyone there is something for .... the shows and game shows are awesome ... !I already booked my second one !!! We choose this cruise for the affordability and because we have been wanting to try Royal Caribbean. The service from our state room attendant, Byron, and our waiter in the main dining room, Michael, were excellent and very attentive! The ship was clean and we enjoyed the shows. We were disappointed with the food - it lacked flavor and tasted like it was mass produced. The crab cakes were made with imitation crab and the pasta was undercooked. Dessert presentation was beautiful but the taste was artificial, with the exception of the apple pie which was delicious. The lamb and the beef were excellent. My husband enjoyed the roasted chicken. Breakfast in the Windjammer was the highlight. We were disappointed in breakfast in the dining room. The hollandaise sauce on the eggs Benedict was flavorless and the eggs were overcooked. The hash brown was soggy underneath a grilled tomato. There was only one small place to get food after 9:00 and the line was very long. The pizza was soggy and tasted like cardboard. The frozen drinks were inconsistent - we have several that were very good but for the most part they lacked flavor and tasted watered down. We did not have a drink plan and found that we did fine with water, lemonade, and iced tea. That being said, we spent a lot for one alcoholic drink and expected it to be flavorful. We enjoyed the shows on board. There was good variety and the performers were very talented. Embarkment was smooth as was disembarkation. The muster drill was tough - had to stand in rows through explanation in 2 languages. It was hot and if in the back part very clausterphobic. Would suggest dividing people by language if possible. The spa was nice but they try to sell you stuff when you leave. I had a great massage. My husband's was not as good and he was in a room where he could hear door closing and talking from other rooms; not so relaxing. We received an anniversary special for $50 off a spa treatment but it was a port day only and we had already had our port day! So it was useless. Read Less

We booked this trip as a quick recharge vacation. The price for a balcony was perfect and being a re-positioning cruise, there were days at sea where it felt okay to do nothing but catch up on sleep, eat well, and read. We had an overall mixed experience. What was good: -Dining staff and services was fantastic. We ate in Chops and Giovanni and the main dining room and all our waiters were fantastic. The food was great, we left full and happy every night. -Our excursion in St. Marten was wonderful, we did the half day catamaran/snorkeling excursion. The staff was informative, the boat was clean, the company was good and it included lunch and beverages. I would do this again. What we disliked: -The art auction was awful purely because they masked an opportunity for a free piece of art by handing out credit card forms and not explaining what they were doing. It was very shady. I am suspicious of the art sales on board anyway, but this was the first time I had seen this happen and I was horrified at how they were taking advantage of people like that. Awful. -Our room was dated, which was fine, it was clean, however, our bed, which was two twin beds pushed together, would separate at night, we joked that there was a 'pit of despair' in the middle keeping us a part. Annoying more than anything. -Activities and entertainment was okay, but felt light, especially for a trip where most time was spent on the boat. We didn't do much because our dinner time was at a time when most evening activities took place. I think overall, it felt short staffed, but not sure if that is typical for a re-positioning cruise. Wonderful experience and crew was all about customer service The crew actually was smiling and happy which is very contagious. Keep up the good work Adventure we will definitely be back on that ship. The last night at the adult karaoke there were a group of kids heckling the performers. Many people walked out. Just when I wondered why Royal was allowing this the person in charge reminded everyone that we are there to have fun and only kind words should be used. Yay!! That put an end to the heckling without punting out the hecklers. Good job Royal. We flew to San Juan to board the ship. Stoped at St Martin (Dutch side) for a few hours then had 3 full days of sailing and the crew was a delight Read Less

We have been loyal to RCL with this being our 8th with them and have sailed on the Adventure before. Overall, this experience was very sub-par for RCL compared to our past experience on the Adventure and with RCL. Bar service was overwhelmed and poor, particularly the in the pool area and casino. We just wonder if all the "great" employees are being placed on the new ships and the older ships are understaffed. Drinks (bloody mary) were rarely the same, i.e., olives and/or Tabasco added. We also wondered if the bars, staffing and systems have not kept pace with the popularity of the drink packages. Our dining experience was awesome and a couple bar tenders in different venues were very friendly and helpful. The casino had technical issues so the players card was not working the first day/night and a number of the slots were not working the whole cruise. On a positive note, they continue to emphasize sanitation with the addition of hand washing sinks at the entrance to Windjammer in addition to hand sanitizer. Embarkation and disembarkation were excellent, they have a great system. We arrived at the port at 10:15am, were checked in immediately and on the ship by 11:00am. FYI- Paradise point in St. Thomas was still not open, but it appeared that most other destinations were operating. Read Less

I chose Royal Caribbean because it was supposed to be the best, in every category. I've cruised before on 2 different Carnival cruises and they were awesome, so I wanted to go a "level up" to RC. I went with my boyfriend, who had never cruised before. I can't eat dairy, so dining was difficult. Nothing is labeled, so you don't know if things contain milk, or are cooked with butter vs oil etc. The only person who knows how dishes are cooked is the chef on staff, which is not an easy/quick way to find out. The food overall tasted good but there were not many healthy options or dairy-free ones. No desserts were dairy free, unless requested a day ahead of time in the dining room. I didn't like that the themed restaurants were an extra fee. Cruises should be all-inclusive I.M.O. especially if you pay extra for alcohol etc. The entertainment onboard was not so great... the Carnival shows I remember were very good and packed at every show. We left after 5-10 min with every show we went to see. The one thing we were excited for was an outdoor movie on the deck that was cancelled without any notice or reason. The pools were also closed for a full "cruising" day for some reason. The staff was SO friendly and happy and willing to help with whatever you needed. Especially in the dining room. There was a couple bartenders who were NOT which was a bummer.. One thing I wish I knew, was that the end "port" wasn't a port, and you had to leave the boat by 10am. Not sure how people did excursions since you couldn't get back on the boat after to shower etc. before going to the airport. The busses take you straight to the airport and you don't go anywhere else. So really you only have the 2 ports to do stuff at. We stopped at St. Thomas & St. Maarten. In St. Thomas we took a ride to Magen's Bay which cost $20 each and $5 each to get in the beach. So $50 to be at the beach for 2 hours where you could do that on the boat and also eat/drink for free. We expected the beach to be a free thing.. maybe more info on the ports online would be good to add. St Maarten we took a water taxi to the beach ($7 each) and there just walked around and swam for a little and had a beer at a bar on the strip. Lots of beach vendors literally RUNNING after us to get us to rent chairs on the beach. Which is uncomfortable when you're in an unfamiliar place.. There was just a lot that wasn't explained ahead of time or available on the website, and the quality was a lot less than expected with such a highly rated line. It felt stressful to me. Like if you ate at a different place they would charge you, if you lost a towel or someone took it they charge $25, or if you got a coffee you might pay for it but wouldn't know until after.. and the excursions didn't seem worth the extra money either. I will probably just go to an all inclusive resort next time for peace of mind and easier traveling. Read Less

This was my 12th RC Cruise.. I am very loyal to Royal and I am currently suffering from cruise depression. For the most part, I had a great time. Food and Entertainment were off the charts AMAZING for me. We loved the game shows, contests, etc, and all of the cruise staff was very friendly. They were super personable and got to know us on a first name basis (especially if you participate, they will be buddies with you). I also was highly impressed with the food this time. In the past, the food was just average for me, but this time, I think they really stepped up their game in both the Windjammer and Main Dining Room. They had a really good variety each day. I did have some issues getting on board the ship. Apparently, they either had some faulty cards that would not scan OR their printer was not working correctly (I never really got a clear answer) and I had to stand to the side right after we boarded the ship so they could print me a new card. I was there for around 15 minutes, while others scanned in and got on the ship, I just stood there waiting. My boyfriend's card, who was literally right in front of me, worked just fine. They never came, so the lady told me to go to guest services to get a new one. At guest services, they were concerned that I must have gotten onto the ship somehow without going through security (?) and didn't believe my story.. Finally, the girl that was supposed to come bring me a new card came back and said it should be fine.. but low and behold, it didn't work at the Windjammer bar. I had to go back down AGAIN and get a new one printed. That was kind of a bummer on the first day, but no more issues after that. Other thoughts.. The bar service was horrible. This cruise had maybe 4 dozen kids, so the bar staff probably was not prepared for that many adults at all times at every venue. There were some times we had to wait 20 minutes for a drink (Imperial Lounge, Blue Moon, and Boleros were the worst.) Main dining room bar service was horrible also. We would be finished with appetizers before our drinks ever came. Cabin cleanliness.. Well, our cabin was refurbished with fresh carpet and a new chair, but it wasn't very clean. The bathroom had dark hairs in the shower, and there was a wine cork under the toilet area that was there when we arrived and sat there for 3 days before we threw it away.. I also NEVER met my stateroom attendant. lol. They just never introduced themselves and I never saw him cleaning - although my boyfriend did meet him, I thought it was strange he never introduced himself to me. PLEASE GO TO ALL OF THE GAMESHOWS. They are hilarious and definitely worth attending each night. We did not do any excursions this time. In St. Thomas, we went to the Mountain Top which was absolutely incredible. I would love to go again. Also, I noticed moreso on this cruise that the crew was going out of their way to sell on the first few days. Drink packages, specialty dining, etc, and they would come up to you while you were just sitting down enjoying a drink or walking past like mall kiosks do. That was pretty annoying, but it definitely calmed down after the first day. All in all, we LOVED this ship and plan to go back in 6 months for the New England/ Canada itinerary!! Read Less

This was the first sailing since the ships drydock and the work done on the ship was obvious. You would never know the ship is almost eighteen years old. Most of the public areas were sparkling the cabins clearly had new carpet and furnishings, and chairs and chaises across the ship and its decks were in excellent condition, if not clearly new. We also found the ship staff’s attention to detail excellent with regard to keeping it clean, never seeing garbage, spare plates or glasses lying around whether in the Windjammer where tables were cleared immediately or drink classes cleaned up right away on deck. This is in stark contrast to our previous trip on the Anthem which we found to be dirty overall and staff indifferent. Embarkation was a breeze, pulling up to the ship at 11am and getting right on and getting off at the end of the trip wasn’t much more difficult. From a crowd perspective, you never felt crowded, even at peak times in the Windjammer, or in the Royal Promendade, making this in excellent size ship. Dining room service and food was pretty good, certainly not gourmet but serviceable. Specialties Giovanni’s Table and Chops were enjoyable, just keep in mind desserts in Giovanni’s are brought out on a dessert cart and are not particularly fresh. Windjammer while spacious and clean, should have a whole lot more variety at breakfast and lunch aand the food was rarely hot. We’ve seen much better on other RCCL ships than this, especially given the limited options at those times around the ship. Other major complaint was the VOOM internet which was almost unusable on the ship despite the high price. Again, the slowest i’ve seen on their ships. That being said, we enjoyed ourselves, who wouldn’t when getting five days in the sun. Entertainment was better than we expected but with the Ice Show and the Headliners, both the comedian Mike Marino and Joel Mason. Read Less

I think that they blew my respect for them...I'm a diamond plus person and have 3 upcoming cruises booked with them but under the circumstances, I think I'll start booking other cruise lines. The staff in the dining room was great, but the service was slower than usual. We did "hook" our reservation numbers together when booking (our 2 cabins) to request the same table, and verified it with the cruise line 1 week before sailing BUT we were not at the same table and had to wait in line with about 50 others with the same problem to get our table straightened out. This was my and my wife's third cruise, all on different lines. That's now given us a good basis for comparison but it's also spoiled us a little bit, because every cruise has been amazing in its own way. Each line and ship has its own strengths, and occasional weaknesses. We had a Grand Suite on this cruise, which is something I really recommend. For the most part we were able to show up and just walk onto the ship, with a quick stop at the check-in desk (but in the VIP line, which had no wait). The benefits of having a suite are more than we expected. Of course the room, bathroom and balcony are bigger, but the Suite Lounge turned out to be one of our favorite places on the ship, especially because they give unlimited free alcohol during happy hour. There's also a party for suite guests midway through the cruise that also has free booze. And we made pretty good use of the VIP seats in some of the venues too (though some aren't very good seats - in the Lyric Theater, they're in the balcony!). Disembarkation was the same - with the suite, we were able to just walk off the ship as soon as de-boarding started. (We did check our luggage but didn't have an airport transfer, so being in group 1, we were able to leave right away.) There was already a massive line for Customs when we got to the terminal, but we got the VIP line so sailed right past it. I mean, I'm not a big capitalist at heart, but you do get what you pay for with a Grand Suite on this ship! This was a positioning cruise so it was much cheaper - normally we wouldn't have been able to afford it. (Top tip: look for a positioning cruise!) The ship itself is big and nice to look at, with fairly traditional designs for most things that feel like they belong on a ship. The Sapphire Dining Room, for example, looks like something you might have seen on a golden era ocean liner. The one massive exception, which must have been a big innovation when the ship was built, is the "Royal Promenade" running down the middle of the ship. This looks really impressive when you first see it, until you realize it's basically just an indoor mall. That's it. There's not really any reason to go there unless you feel the need to buy a watch on a ship, or fill up your soda cup at one of the two soda machines. The other ships I've been on have had central atriums that serve the same purpose, but somehow they feel a little more "ship-like", and the bars and whatnot feel like real destinations in themselves. The Royal Promenade's bars and restaurants feel like eating or drinking at the mall, and we never ate or drank there after the first day. Another unique thing that stayed impressive for us is the ice rink, which I know now is a Royal Caribbean trademark. We went to the ice show twice - it was amazing to think you can see such a thing on a ship. It was beautiful, although as you can imagine there were a few moving-ship-related falls. I don't even know how they do some of those jumps or one-foot spinning moves while the ship is pitching and rolling. Speaking of food, we thought the dining room food was *really* good for the most part, and we ate there every night but one. They do repeat a lot of appetizers and desserts, but the main courses were mostly different every night, and I don't think I ate anything that I didn't force myself to finish, no matter how full I was. It was just too good to leave anything behind. I especially enjoyed the prime rib and New York strip steak. The Windjammer buffet is... well, it's a ship's buffet. It's exactly like the other buffets on the other ships we've been on. Some stuff is good, other stuff is "eh". The pizza was just bad. But at least you will never go hungry. Breakfast is a particular weak point, as it always seems to be in ship buffets. They did have one day for lunch when they set up about 10 different meat carving stations with different freshly carved meats, and that was neat. Always go for the freshly carved meat if you can - it's usually very good, and there's always at least one station set up. We were on a Valentine's Day cruise so they really pushed us at every opportunity to make reservations at a specialty restaurant. Giovanni's Table finally wore me down and I made one there when they actually called me in our room. But I didn't regret it - even though the dining room was good, Giovanni's Table was a noticeable step up, and I had seriously one of the best filet mignons I've ever had there. The service was also on another level, and of course the decor is like a real restaurant. This ship has two main pools - the regular pool and the Solarium, which is the better of the two (if you're an adult, as you have to be there). The regular pool area was constantly overcrowded, and even the VIP loungers were always fully taken. The Solarium was never quite as crowded, although it feels a little more quiet and enclosed. (But it's just on the other side of one door from the regular pool, so you can easily go back and forth.) I really missed the aft pool like the other ships we've taken have - the aft section of the pool deck on this ship is taken up by the Flowrider surf simulator and the waterslide. I know who they're trying to appeal to with these things, but I didn't see many people using them, and given how overcrowded the main pool is, I really think they should just install another pool and bar back there instead. The Lyric Theater hosted a couple of comedy shows, a couple of dance shows and a comedy/musical tribute show on our cruise, and we went to all of them once. The entertainers were all really good/funny, and the singing/dancing shows I thought were very professional. (My wife wasn't that impressed by the Latin dance show, but I was.) In terms of shore excursions, we booked the Magen's Bay Beach day at St. Thomas, and did our own thing in St. Maarten. I got the impression when booking that a lot of stuff still isn't really running in the Caribbean since the hurricanes (no zip-lining option, for example!), and St. Maarten, especially, is still just in a really bad state. This was our fourth visit so we wanted to see how some of our favorite places had held up, and a lot of them are basically destroyed. The whole of Grand Case and most of its restaurants is just a shell - though we had a great lunch at one of the LOLO's there, which are open. The Sonesta Maho Beach is totally gutted. Orient Bay Beach is basically gone - I mean there is nothing there, and even all the trees and beach bars are missing! It's very sad. RCI did have beach excursions set up that I heard were fine, but much of the island isn't. Still, they want tourists and need the money, so go! As for Magen's Bay and St. Thomas, it was in much better shape, though there was obvious hurricane damage throughout the island as well. Hopefully in a couple years, the region will have fully recovered. So check the date if you're reading this in the future. One thing - in addition to being a Valentine's Day cruise, this was also an anniversary cruise for my wife and me. I had ordered one of the room decor packages for our anniversary, and RCI somehow lost my order. Big problem! At 9PM that day, I went to the front desk, and they found my order but it had somehow not ever made it to room service. They straightened it out and we finally got the room decorated (plus our cake), and they were very apologetic about it. In the end, my wife was very surprised and happy. But this is actually the second time I've had this experience on different cruise lines - so if you've got a surprise planned, always check in advance to make sure it's going to happen. All in all, not much to really complain about other than that and the overcrowding at the main pool, and maybe a few minor things about the way RCI designs its ships. Read Less

Myself, my wife and about 20 others in a group just went on the southern Caribbean cruise and had another successful cruise. The last cruise we went on was on the Oasis and we were not as pleased with the service and manner of the crew staff. We also did not like the added size of the ship with the amount of additional people and that is what lead us to going out on the Adventure this time. We were not disappointed at all. The service was great and could almost be described as personal and that is what we wanted to get again. My recommendation to anyone will always be to cruise on a smaller ship vs the large ones as that is the ships we will be sticking with from now on. We both just love the size and the attention that we were able to get on the ship and the available space in the bars and theaters. Read Less

Well where do I begin !! Embarkation at Southampton was rather longer than anticipated , despite having preference over others , I along with other diamon and diamond plus members queued for far longer than we wanted to , however once onboard its soon forgotten . My superior oceanview balcony cabin on deck ten was just wonderful , beautifully clean and I was blessed with a wonderful Phillipino male room attendant for whom nothing was too much trouble . I had decided not to eat too much on this cruise , so had room service evry morning so that I would not be tempted by the food in the Windjammer , I had a wonderful rapport with Karen from St Vincent who took the same order every morning Two toast and a boiled egg , and she even came to see me as we laughed so much every time we spoke . The windjammer , what can I say , just wonderful , they cater so well for everybody and are always so cheerful . Could I pass that huge tray of cherry crumble , bread and butter pudding , and those tiny cheesecakes well no I couldnt , so I thoroughly enjoyed them every afternoon , and then just skipped dinner AND AM PLEASED TO SAY I DIDNT GAIN A POUND The journey .................well lets say I never experienced rocking in the night like I did on that ship and I was alone !!! I would wake to find the curtains swinging away from the balcony door , then watch them go back again, I took styrgeron from the minute I boarded continuesly for four days so I wasnt sick , but I gather a lot of people were . Bobby the cruise director was fantastic ,he does a great job and is always smiling and happy to chat to everyone ,the programme he records with Renato is hilarious even if its not meant to be , Whats in the box , its not a box its a bag, you are doing this on purpose says Renato will stay with me forever , they are a great double act , and I told them so several times they are doing a fantastic job . The shows were very good except for one , humour re being beaten as a child was not acceptable to many some even left the theatre , so that was unfortunate . All of the ports were good and we enjoyed great weather too apart from the odd soaking in St Thomas , Disembarking was a bit drawn out too , I waitied till later as my flight was not till the afternoon, but the whole process was quite slow . The ships cleaniless, the staffs attitudes ,and the hilarious Captain who told a joke most days were all a pleasure ,but then I am loyal to Royal so I cant compare , but it was a thoroughly enjoyable cruise   Read Less

We are a married couple from Scandinavia who previous have been on 35 cruises. This was our 9 Transatlantic cruise, and our 18 cruise with RCI. Pre-cruise: For the second year in a row, we had pre-booked a car with chauffeur from Online Airport Cars in London, to our hotel in Southampton. It worked again very well for us, and we thought the price was fair. We stayed at the Hotel Novotel Southampton, one day before the cruise. The hotel is an OK 4* hotel, but the prepaid dinner was unfortunately very disappointing. Embarkation: Went very smoothly. The voyage: Unfortunately, we found as last year that the best Transatlantic itinerary in the fall for us, was a cruise from Southampton. Like last November, this meant rather bad weather for two days, until we came to Madeira. We really dislike to sail from Southampton on cruises in late fall, we prefer absolutely to sail from a port in the Mediterranean. And next fall we luckily will just do that, but it's another story … The Ship: The Adventure of the Seas is a very nice ship, but some things could be maintained better. For example, some elevator buttons did not work, and the large punctured window aft. in the Island Grill, which we also noticed in November last year, was still not changed. Cabin info: We had booked an aft. balcony cabin on deck 9. It was a nice cabin, but with two exceptions, the two very ugly plastic chairs on the balcony, should have been thrown long ago (luckily we had in addition to the chairs two sunbeds, which were fine). In the bathroom we again had a toilet seat that was not so pretty. RCI is the only cruise line we sail with, where we sometimes experience getting less nice toilet seats. We think of course that ugly seats should be replaced at once, but the reason for not doing this is perhaps to save costs? Dining: We had My Time Dining (MTD) in the Mozart Dining Room on deck five. This was really an excellent dining experience! On 11 of our 14 dinners, we were served by the waiter Gennadiy from Ukraine, and his assistant Polo from Peru. We think Gennadiy really is one of the best waiters on the seven seas! Also Polo did an excellent job! But not only these two, but the other waiters we spoke with in "our part" of the Mozart Dining Room, was very nice! - with the only exception of a male assistant waiter. But we will of course not forget the excellent service from the two hostesses Salemnon Vashi and Yurkhan Vashi (cousins), and we were also pleased with the third hostess and our friendly Maitre D'. The food for breakfast and lunch in the Buffet Restaurant Windjammer, was as usual standard buffet food. Unfortunately we experienced that it was empty for prunes when we came to the Caribbean, just like the Transatlantic cruise last year! We have a hard time believing that the logistics would be so complicated, that it should not have been sort it up to this year's cruise. The reason is perhaps that the remaining stock of prunes were put away until the next cruise in the Caribbean - very disappointing! As expected, it was difficult to find an unoccupied table for breakfast and lunch during “peak hours” in the Windjammer. Although a few of the employees in Windjammer was a bit too relaxed, the majority did a very good job of clearing tables etc. We had an excellent dinner at Giovanni’s table. It was nice to experience that on most seadays, food was also prepared and served on pool deck at lunchtime. The crew: Our stateroom attendant from Indonesia was excellent. In addition to him, we also found the other stateroom attendants “in our” starboard corridor (from our aft. stateroom and forward to the lifts), to be very nice. Especially, we had several small pleasant conversations with the male attendant from Guatemala. The majority of rest of the crew we met, were very friendly, with unfortunately a special exception, the unfriendly male officer who was responsible for the deck and pool staff, and who also was responsible for the distribution of bath towels. The Bars: As usually we were pleased with the Viking Crown Lounge at the top of the ship. Entertainment: Of course, a lot of entertainment. The two different ice shows we watched, was as expected excellent. But we no longer go to see the production shows. We are quite tired to experience that part of the music/songs presented, is not "original music". The reason for this is probably copyright issues/costs for RCI. Moreover, we think that most of the live music was good. The Crown & Anchor Society: As Diamond Plus member we were again pleased with the nightly Diamond Event in the Imperial Lounge, with the serving of free beverages and canapés. All the waiters were very friendly. We also appreciate the new offer, that Diamond members and above, now get three free drink coupons to use each day in the bars around the ship, during the hours for the nightly event. We never visited the Concierge Lounge in the evening, it was too crowded. Itinerary – The 5 ports of call were all good. Disembarkation in San Juan - smooth. Easy to find baggage. Adventure of the Seas is a beautiful ship that is showing signs of wear and tear, but still a great ship. It is large with over 3000 passengers. Food on the ship was excellent, and the crew was phenomenal. After we left on Monday the 4th through the 5th we hit a storm and were bounced around like walking on a trampoline. After that, the rest of the sailing was calm and wonderful. The six days at sea between Madeira and St. Kitts were wonderful. Lots to do on the ship and really relaxing. Entertainment was mixed, with a terrific show with an electronic violinist and a comedy magic/juggling act. The Royal Caribbean Singers and Dancers were wonderful also along with a group of motown/60's singers - 4 older guys - who were great!. The ice show was the best show on the cruise. The remaining shows were lackluster and below par - a "Diva" (and I use the term loosely) who was pretentious and BAD, a lackluster comedian/singer and other forgetables. The food was really good no matter where you ate on the ship. and the Specialty Restaurant, Portofino, was fabulous, when we ate there for ther Mystery dinner show which was worth the extra cost. We had an inside cabin but with a window overlooking the 5th deck promenade - a first time roomstyle for us. At 160 sq ft it was roomy and what I really liked about it is that the window had a couch rather than the bed which was off to the side. This made the room look larger and very comfortable. Storage space was a little lacking, though. We were not bothered by sounds from the promenade and had no trouble sleeping. I would recommend this room without a doubt. Read Less
