We wanted to sail the Caribbean and found we could book a reasonable flight on Southwest to Puerto Rico for a few days and then cruise St. Thomas, St. Kitts, Curacao and Aruba - all 'new' places to visit for our family (me, my husband, my 14 year old). Ship was clean, staff was friendly, Balcony Suite was wonderful - I love using the balcony to read and get away from the tv, while my husband and daughter can enjoy a tv movie. Food is excellent. LOVED the dinner murder mystery in Giovani's Table Restaurant. Song and Dance show was fun and not too crowded, so easy to get a seat. Loved the Zumba on deck/poolside and my husband and daughter liked the court time when they switched to volleyball. Excursions went smoothly too - lots of history lessons and information about the islands. Shopping is always fun too. Wish they had more court time/space. My husband and daughter used it for volleyball, but the net was only set up for an hour, 3-4 times during the week. Read Less

I was invited by friends and did not regret it in fact I want to bring my family next time. Crew and staff are angels and things are made easier for clients. Everything went well and I was able to relax really well. Food is great and abundant, everyone is nice and smiles are all around. We were pampered and this has been one of the greatest adventures for me. Entertainment is great, varieties are well chosen and everything was fun. I wish my nephew works for Royal Caribbean International, because I'd be with him in a cruise twice a year as it is really a great experience. The fact that we visited at least 4 islands in addition to Puerto Rico where we embarked and disembarked, is already super exciting. I would like to do next the Western Caribbean, Eastern Mediterranean and Western Mediterranean cruises, and more with Harmony of the Seas, Symphony of the Seas and more. Read Less

Think twice Most times the distances are too long, to reach destinations that don't offer what is expected. For instance, they promote a unique snorkling experience, according to the Concierges its one of the best in the Caribbean, and what you actually get is a dead reef in Antigua. In Santa Lucia, there was a 90 minute trip to get to the start of the Pitons, suposedly a hot spring experience. But it doen't really go beyond 3 small - human made pools that don't really fit all the guests. The experience in the main dinning hall was very good. The Chop Grille was dissapointing and had not so good meat quality. The wine offering within the ship was lacking overall. The Buffet restaurant got better over the last days of the cruise. It very important to keep all this in mind if you are thinking in do this itinerary Read Less

We chose this ship and cruise for our Granddaughter's first cruise with us. The Adventure Of The Seas was newer and larger than the Carnival ship with a similar itinerary. We knew the room, a Balcony cabin, would be small, but we could work with that. The cabin layout was far better than the design on the Allure of the Seas, which we were on last June. The bathroom was still tiny, and the shower did not allow us to bend and wash our legs well, but, again, better than the Allure. The positives included the Royal Promenade area, with bars, shops, a cafe, a Starbucks, and a Ben & Jerry's, as well as a guest services and an excursion desk. Our dining room waiter and assistant waiter were wonderful (Kingsley & Neeman), and the big band was terrific. The pool area is beautiful, the buffet has 8 hand washing areas at the entry, and the maintenance and cleaning are continuous and efficient. The negatives, from major to minor, include really bad breakfasts, and, overall, poor quality food everywhere. There is no food at the pools, or anywhere near them. The buffet is set up with the typical pool food all the way in the back, with hot dogs and hamburgers thrown in a pan to keep warm, no grill to melt cheese, and the vegetables, like lettuce, tomato, pickles, and onion, tossed into food trays near them. You get your own. Johnny Rockets would be an alternative, except that it's 2 floors up and buried between the teen club and the mini golf course, and it is not part of the free food. Another issue is the wired hours the various venues around the ship offer. Only the Cafe serves 24/7, and they are very limited. The bars are open at varied hours, and the "Sports Bar" has only ESPN1 & ESPN2, SO very little sports on tv. Overall, it was hard, at various times, to buy a drink, get food, or find something to do. Even the soft serve was often closed or didn't work. This was, in all probability, our last Royal Caribbean cruise. Read Less

Royal Caribbean RC) has the name of a good ship , good service, good food and good fun. What else can you ask for? Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly. The ship cleaness and beautiful decor has the wow factor. Cabin so spacious, I went with my 10 year old son and my mom and we fit perfectly. There is enough room, and belieive me we spent a lot of time on the cabin, resting and with room service on those days we just wanted to hang out at the cabin to rest. Starbucks coffee was a big plus for me and my mom. RC offres infinite beverage packages that suits every need. We bought the specialty cofffee pacakge for 15 coffee for about $2.00 plus 18% gratuity per coffee. That is a good deal! Dining is a tasteful experience. Service is excellent. Attention to detail is impressive. We already booked next year cruise. Lot's of fun, good food and service, your really feel you are on vacations, even with kids! :) Read Less

I will see you soon. the service all around the ship was excellent.The cruise was very relaxing, the ship large but not too crowded, and the service was great. We have come to trust that Royal Caribbean will give us a vacation worth the cost with good food, entertain and variety activities. The security of the personal are one of the best that we have expiring. I saw that the excursions are different and interesting .the improvement of disembarkation of the ship is getting better than before.in this cruise we found or refunded the love that was lost between us thanks to every staff and employees of the ship I think that every body have part on this matter again thanks. My husband and I were excited to visit Aruba, Bonaire, & Curacao. While we have been scuba diving on numerous occasions in the Caribbean, we had never visited the Netherland Antilles. We are both certified PADI divers and both have over 1000 logged dives each. While my husband has more expertise in equipment repair & calibration, my experience is as both an IDC Staff Instructor & in Open Water Certifications in Monterey, California. As a side note, my husband was certified to use Enriched Air with PADI in 2012 & I have been certified to teach Enriched Air classes with PADI since 1999. We booked 2 tank boat dives, with Nitrox, on 4 different shore excursions. It was not to be. #1 Your C-cards don't matter. We showed our cards to both the PADI shop onboard & each & every shore operator - as required prior to diving. Each shore operator had a different set of rules. 1st stop: "We don't allow cruise ship divers from to use Nitrox. They get confused. That's the agreement we have with Royal Caribbean." Yet all the other shore operators had no problem with renting us Nitrox tanks. #2 Royal Caribbean makes other arbitrary restrictions. "Max. Depth is 18 meters." Yet different shore operators had different rules. For example: "45 feet for 45 minutes, both dives." #3 Undisclosed limits & conditions of advertisements. Wind was significant in 2 locations. 30 to 35 knots. One operator takes us out (as we had booked) on a 2 tank boat dive. It was a bit choppy, but we're from California. Think: Monastery Beach. So, wind to us was not a factor. Another operator doesn't TELL us that we GOT 2 shore dives, until it was too late to do anything about the change of plans. It was a 20-25 minute bus ride from the ship to the staging area, then a short walk to the dive shop & beach entry. After we arrive, we are then told "too bad it's so windy." We had booked boat dives. #4 No notice, choice, or refund. We were not notified of the changes, given an opportunity to do something else, or even offered a refund for the arbitrary changes. #5 Rental equipment. Our gear did not arrive to our room until late the following morning from our initial embarkation. Too late for us to make the 8am meeting time for our 1st dive. We were at the front desk & the shore excursion desk numerous times the night before, as well as the following morning. Looking for our luggage, as well as telling them we cannot dive without our gear. RC refused to refund our money. Their answer: "You can use rental gear." Excuse me?? We did not bring thousands of dollars of our personal gear (Zeagle BCD's, Regulators, Gauges, Computers, Masks, Fins, Booties, Snorkels, Shortie Wetsuits, Flashlights, Save a Dive Kit, Nitrox Analyzer, etc....) to use RENTAL equipment. The food was OK, not spectacular, but OK. We even tried the Chef's Table & Chop's. Better, but again, not spectacular. The evening shows were great. Especially love the dancers. The staff in the serving areas were wonderful. Our room steward was fabulous. However, the general policies of Royal Caribbean made it impossible for us to enjoy our primary goal: scuba diving. To summarize: We will NEVER cruise with Royal Caribbean again. Read Less

So my wife and I usually take a cruise about every year and the South East Caribbean is usually our destination. We went with a large group of friends. There was nice mix of ages on this trip. My wife and I are in our late thirties and we were right in the middle relative to our age. There were a number of families with kids, but not kids everywhere. There was also a number of 18 to early twenty year olds, but it wasn't alcohol amateur hour. It was an overall great mix of people. We met a lot of new friends actually. Our group never had any issues finding transportation to our excursions. If you go to Antigua and snorkeling then partying is your idea of a good time; the snorkel beach trip on the Wadadli Cats catamaran is a must. Top notch snorkeling, THEN good rum punches on a private beach. FUN. In St. Maarten, Maho beach is a must. Sipping a beer, eating a good meal, and then playing on the beach while airplanes come in for landings 15 feet above your head is a bucket-list kind of a day.To make a LONG story real short; this year on the Adventure of the Seas was awesome. We've cruised this same itinerary before. The ship has recently been refreshed and the water-slides and refreshed interior and bars was a needed upgrade. I don't know who is running this ship, but whoever it is, give the person a raise. The service was ON-POINT. From guest services to dinner service, they were not messing around. They were out for world class service and our entire group of 20 felt that they provided it. The itinerary for this cruise is so much fun. Well done RC. Read Less

This cruise falls on the correct date for Spring Break for my group which are school teachers. I always choose Royal Caribbean, and am an Emerald Member of the Crown & Anchor Society, which is their loyalty program. I have taken 10+ cruises with this company, and have always had a very pleasant experience. The destinations are each unique experiences, and have friendly locals that make each stop pleasurable. My friend and I usually go ashore and experience the local shopping. Others in my group did do some shore excursions and were very happy with their experiences. The crew on this ship were very efficient and friendly. Embarkation and disembarkation were smooth and organized. We took a shore excursion on our return in San Juan, touring the city, which was very enjoyable. Bar and dining room service was excellent. Food was exceptional. I would recommend this company and this particular cruise experience very highly. In fact, we signed up for the same cruise for 2018 on this ship! Read Less

I did not choose this cruise, I was asked to join a friend. I had been to all the ports before but was quite happy to visit them again. As we had both been to San Juan before we went from the airport straight to the ship. Embarkation and disembarkation were practically flawless. Very quick and smooth. The ship was great and is my personal favourite class of ship, not too big, not too small. The cabin was excellent, mid ship with a balcony. The food was excellent both in the Windjammer and the dining room. There were plenty of activities and I participated in some (trivia and word search) and there were a wide variety of shore excursions of which I did two. In St. Kitts, I did the Caribbean Cooks which was very interesting as I like to cook and learning new recipes and trying new foods is always interesting to me. In Curacao I did the nightime tour and folklore show which included a city tour and a fun audience participation dance show. In St. Thomas, Aruba and Curacao I also wandered around the local shops and they were quite enjoyable and easily accessible from the ship. Mostly however, I just relaxed and enjoyed the beautiful weather. Read Less

Just returned from our second cruise with Royal Caribbean this time on the Adventure of the Seas and have to say the experience was outstanding overall. Highlights for us were the Sapphire Dining Room where the customer service from Wilson (Willy), Topan and Rupresh in particular was first class and they made each evening`s dining a great experience with their warmth and friendliness. The same can be said for Zoltan (Dane), Melissa and Nicolai in the Schooner Bar who were so welcoming every time we were in there that we simply had to keep going back night after night even though there were plenty of other excellent entertainment choices. We read some of the reviews prior to travelling with comments complaining about the "dated" decor of the ship and also the "poor" quality of the food but our experience could not have been more different as the ship looked like it had been refurbished and was like being in a luxurious 4/5 star hotel at sea. The food was absolutely fantastic with great choice at all the restaurants but the Sapphire on Deck 3 was a must because of the customer service from Willy, Topman and Rupresh. One downside was disembarking time from ship was brought forward by an hour literally on the morning we left which meant we had a 7 hour wait at airport prior to flight but tip is to go into Airport Hotel at terminal for a drink and some food which was fine and eased the waiting time. Last downside was last day at sea the pool areas were jammed with everyone on board at same time and no available sunbeds as half the passengers had put towels and other items down to reserve but were not being used for ages with nothing being done to prevent this despite signs up everywhere saying this was not permitted. These were only minor issues though and overall we would thoroughly recommend this ship and this itinerary, particularly if you like a bit of of quality, variety,great value for money and outstanding customer service!!! Oh wow, the activities are S P E C T A C U L A R. I would say the pool is a great place to have fun! The service, I need to tell you that they are so sweet and nice, no attitudes or rude behaviors. And that is said at the least. Now to the ports and excursions.I went to Cozumel Mexico, Grand Cayman, and Jamaica! They were all so fun. What i like is that you have The first day, enjoy and explore the cruise, Day 2, first port. Day 3 shipping, Day 4 second port, Day five shipping, Day 6 port three, day seven, enjoying your last day! My wife and I were trying to decide where to go for a Caribbean vacation; I voted for an all-inclusive resort, my wife wanted to go on a cruise. So, off we went on a cruise (I lost the vote 1-1; perhaps interference from Russia in the voting process). We (my wife), chose Adventure of the Seas. I read the reviews; mostly bad--bad food, bad service, and the condition of the ship was shabby (since the refurbishment was not complete). Needless to say, I went in with a bad attitude. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The ship was clean and in good shape. The food was pretty good, and the service was also quite good. The ship was in fine shape; not shabby, run down, or dirty at all. Our state room was very spartan. Granted, we kinda' slummed it in a lower end stateroom (2290), and got what we paid for. The room was of adequate size, although I found the bed a bit firm for my tastes. The fixtures were very institutional (plastic sink and toilet. It was a very small spray shower). There was adequate storage space. I would have liked an electrical outlet near the bed to charge my phone overnight where it would also be nearby. My wife was impressed by the vanity and mirror; she remarked that it was very good lighting to apply her makeup. In short, I wasn't exactly disappointed in the room considering we went on the cheap. We got what we paid for. We ate basically two meals a day; breakfast in the buffet, and dinner in the MDR. The breakfast selection was the same every day; eggs (scrambled, and an omelet station; usually with a long line), meats (bacon, ham and sausage), biscuits and gravy and other breads, pancakes, waffles (pre-made), fruits, and pastries. I usually stuck to scrambled eggs, ham, and corned beef hash (I'm a protein freak). These were just OK; nothing bad, nothing great. The pastries were usually dry. The MDR was pretty good. The first night we were served 'filet mignon'. I use the quotes because I'm not sure it was actually filet mignon. It was dry and flavorless, and square shaped (?). I've never seen square filet. It was bad. I thought this was quality of meal is what I was in store for the rest of the week. I was pleasantly surprised. The food was generally good; I had osso bucco, pasta, and chicken (I stayed away from the steak. I'm a steak snob, and know they couldn't possibly meet my meat expectations). The desserts were pretty good too; loooooved the sticky bread pudding. We're not drinkers, so I couldn't comment on the wines. Sorry. And to work off the meals, I went to the gym regularly. The gym was fine. It seemed of adequate size, and with a decent amount of equipment that's in good shape. If there was any complaint it was the number of kids playing around with the equipment (it's supposed to be a 16 and older policy. It's loosely enforced). The gym is located at the front of the ship, with a nice view. They could position the TV sets better, however. The itinerary; eh....it's the Caribbean. You're basically going from one beach to the next. The one complaint I would have is the short time in port; we left at 4:00-4:30 each day. It felt like we were always rushed in port. We did do a few cool things. In Barbados we did a submarine excursion. That was cool. We went down 150 feet to explore a shipwreck and reef. This was packaged with a 2.5 hour land tour. BOOOOORING!!!! If you choose to do this, see if you can bug out of the land tour. The other cool thing we did was in St. Maarten. We went to Maho beach, which is beautiful. And, it is right next to the airport. The planes upon landing fly just overhead. It's a really cool experience watching those planes come in so close. Embarkation took an hour. Too long. It was somewhat my fault for not completing some of the paperwork ahead of time (but this took only an extra 10-15 minutes). Our luggage ended up in our room by about 4PM. Disembarkation was a breeze. I was prepared for up to two hours to get off the ship and through customs. It actually took about 20 minutes (maybe a bit too lax at the customs check. The agent let us through practically with a wink and a nod). The entertainment was fine. I'm not much for the entertainment thing. The ship's company did fine; I was neither overwhelmed, nor underwhelmed by them. The ice show is interesting, but it's not really my thing. The juggler was very good; good stage presence and rapport with the audience. On one night was a comic act; "Two Funny Guys". They were brothers from Argentina. They weren't bad, except for the last 10 minutes of their act. The do some kind of martial arts thing with these ropes. I didn't get it. In all, I did have a good time on the cruise after all (please don't tell my wife. I protested and pouted the whole time so as to save face). I felt the cruise overall met, or exceeded expectations (largely due to the poor reviews I had read previous). Read Less

This was my second cruise in Australia, this cruise was the worst one I've been on. A few positives, 1. Some of the guest shows were very good.2. Restaurant staff were good. That is where it begins and ends. Room service was appalling, food on the ship was good for the first two days and downhill from there with the exception of the specialty restaurants. Our room with balcony while in a good position was very average. Many of the guests I spoke with were of the same opinion. Most of the staff appeared very unhappy and the managers were argumentative, access cards to rooms failed often , the hard sell was constant and at times we were completely ripped off, a packet of chips cost almost $15.00au!!! I could go on and on. My advice is too avoid the this ship, this trip has put me off ever doing an Australian cruise again . Read Less

We left mid-April on our southern Caribbean cruise. There were 6 of us in 3 cabins (4 in inside cabins, 1 in an ocean view and 1 in a balcony stateroom). Inbound flights (5 different departure cities) were uneventful and on-time. It seems that the terminals have changed within the last year. I believe Southwest, Delta, and American all came in to and departed from terminal B. The baggage carousel was a bit of a problem. No one was sure which carousel would get the luggage from what flight(s). Try to find an airport representative to provide the most up-to-date information. I forgot to ask my travel agent to purchase airport transfers ahead of time. The RCCL representative made a call to check on this detail. The exit to the taxi stand was backed up (clogged) with all sorts of travelers needing transportation to one place or another. A gentleman approached me and said I was selected to get to a ‘short line’ for a taxi. I was actually O.K. with this. It seems that the one line to get a taxi is so backed up that some of the drivers get out of their vehicles way back in their line and walk up to the airport exit to get customers outside of the line or cue. This allows taxi drivers the chance to get more business, whether or not the rules are strictly followed. For 3 of us, with our luggage, the cost one way to the ship was $28.00 Check in, with my set-sail pass, was quick. I decided to walk my luggage on board so that I could unpack immediately. I was unpacked before the life boat drill at 5:45 pm. My room was adequate, but a little dated. The curtains should be replaced, however. They are somewhat frayed. The room safe is just above the flat screen TV, and not in the closet which is where I usually find it. This safe is also somewhat worn and has buttons which are gummy to push. The labels on the buttons are pretty much worn off. The shower has the sliding tube and not the dreaded shower curtain. As for my balcony (E3), I had an end room on the fantail (room 9690). The end rooms have a very nice balcony which is pretty much not obstructed and larger than the usual port or starboard balconies. Any of the other aft balcony rooms are obstructed because of the super structure off the back of the ship. Other than aesthetics from a distance, I don’t understand why the back end was designed this way. But all Voyager class ships have this limitation. So, give this consideration when booking a fan tail cabin. On my first sailing on the same ship (several years ago), I booked an atrium view cabin. This is also a design problem. Although you can oversee the atrium when the curtains are opened, people on the opposite side of the atrium can look into your room as you can see into theirs. Also, when they have entertainment at night, the sound comes right through the glass wall. I would recommend staying away from these rooms all together. Nice idea, but not practical. As for my room steward, I never saw him until day 3. That was the one and only time I saw him during the entire week. Sometimes, I think it would be nice just to check in with this person. But, luckily he was not needed for anything out of the ordinary. I found service in the MDR to be a little slow. We actually saw the assistant maître d’ on multiple evenings. One night I ordered chicken cordon blue. I have had better frozen versions at home. It was clearly frozen and hard cheese and one slice of ham in the very center. I told our waiter that this is one dish that should be removed from the menu all together. Also, the crème Brule was made with bananas. This is another dish that should be revised or removed from the menu. Generally speaking, the food was good, but not great. PS, people went into the MDR on both formal nights in smart casual clothing. Suits no longer seem required wear for men. On the other hand, I went to Giovanni’s Table on both formal nights. This is an optional dinner choice for a $30.00 fee. I went twice – on both formal nights. The meals were excellent. The Wind Jammer café (buffet meals) was pretty well organized with good breakfasts and lunches. However, another dish I would not recommend is the pizza. Other cruise lines do pizza much better than on this ship. The pool area was nice on port days. However, on the one day – last day - at sea, claim your space early. The forward adult’s only pool was crowded to the point of being an unpleasant space. The main pool featured ‘games’ after noon. Unless, you enjoy crowded spaces with games like the largest belly flop contest, avoid this outdoor space all together. The atrium after dinner features all of the shops putting items for sale in the center of the ship. That, along with bands playing and people dancing in the atrium, makes this the perfect place for people with ADHD. I opted for going out on deck, or back to my room to avoid this congestion. Also, one day was devoted to disco. 70’s videos were played by the main pool during the day and there was dancing during the evening in the atrium. This event created a wall to wall group of people. (Bring your 70’s clothing for this event). Another night was devoted to wearing ‘white’. Speaking a little more about the atrium, there are suspended art pieces of the solar system hung 12 stories in the air. From the elevators, you are able to see the dust caked on to these large globes. I avoided seeing any of the shows and had not heard whether I had missed anything worthwhile. I went to the gym each morning for my treadmill workout. This was the first time I ever spent time on a treadmill. No staff member was available to help guests new to the ‘equipment’. I had a friend show me what I needed to do. Over the week, I discovered that two treadmills were inoperative. I was not able to report this to any available nearby staff. Also, then there is the Internet Café. There was no staff member available to ask for instructions to ‘get started’. Disembarkation went relatively smooth. Bag tags and disembarkation times were not provided until the evening prior to departure. My bag tag was at the last available departure time. But, I knew that would not work because of the time of my flight. So, if you are feeling that this departure time assigned is a little late, just go to the reception desk to ask for a new, earlier disembarkation time. They would be glad to assist you. Don’t assume that the time you are given will necessarily fit with your flight time. I easily got off the ship to discover that the warehouse where the luggage is housed was mobbed. Getting a porter helps get you through the ‘line’ in half the time. I highly recommend this, whether you need one or not. Day trips: Barbados - I took the taxi to Accra beach. Nice beach which has a Tiki Bar for lunch and drinks. Cost is $15.00 USD total. You get a lounge chair and umbrella and $15.00 USD to be spent at the Tiki Bar. I highly recommend. Nice white sand beach. Dominica - I did the ship's river tubing experience. Although it was a nice day, and my 3rd time doing this excursion, things have changed since hurricane Erika. The roads to the mountain tops have been washed away. The start and end points have been changed where private roads are being used to access the river so that this excursion can be offered. Water levels were a little low and the experience was a little slower than last year and before. Lots of fun, nevertheless. St. Croix - This is a great trip to snorkeling off Buck Island. Excellent snorkeling. We even got to stop at Buck Island to swim ashore. This is the first time I have been able to get onto Buck Island's beautiful sand. St. Kitts - We did a 1/2 day taxi ride to Brimstone Fortress. It is way up on a steep hill with gorgeous views. You can see as far away as Montserrat. St. Martin - We did the Golden Eagle catamaran trip. Once again things have changed where this boat can no longer visit Isle Tintamarre. The French government have taken over this island and has made it a preserve with limited access. No more crashing waves traveling north from Phillipsburg. Instead snorkeling was in Great Bay and the sail headed west to Mullet Bay. This was a smooth ride over and back by motor. No sails were used. Mullet Bay was pretty enough. On the return, we went by Maho Bay (by the airport) while a KLM 747 was landing. That was fun. All in all this was a good trip, but thought you should know a bit about the details noted above. We booked our cruise exactly a year before we sailed, getting us $200 onboard credit as advertised (or so we thought). We got connecting balcony cabins (we traveled with two kids and two adults) on the eighth floor and requested the 8:30 dining and a table for 4 at the time of booking. We also bought beverage package for ourselves. Online check-in gave us a hard time because we had two separate reservations (you cannot book two cabins at the same time and you have to call to link the reservations). Overall, anything besides the homepage on RCCL's website looks outdated. I got a text from RCCL four days before sailing: Important Notice Regarding Your Upcoming Royal Caribbean International Sailing Hello, this is Royal Caribbean International with important information regarding your upcoming cruise. The CDC has issued a travel alert regarding the Zika virus for certain countries, which may be included in your cruise itinerary. To learn more about the Zika virus, please visit the CDC's website. For travel-related concerns, please visit http://www.royalcaribbean.com/contentPage.do?pagename=royal_caribbean_security_guide or contact us or your travel agent. It was not at all helpful that they sent this to us four days before sailing, even though we already had enough information on this topic. RCI uses Pan-American Pier in San Juan. This port is only used for embarkation and has no amenities. As soon as we arrived at the pier, we were rushed out of our taxi and onto the sidewalk. Embarkation was very disorganized. First, you have to wait in one line to drop your checked bags off. You give them your bags and they literally throw them in the back of a truck. After you drop off your bags, you have to go all the way back to the start and wait on line to get inside the embarkation building. We were traveling with an elderly person who had a hard time walking, so we requested a wheelchair. THEY HAD NONE LEFT! However, we were allowed to use the expedited line. Once we got inside the building, things moved faster and we were able to get on the ship easily. We did NOT have a good first impression of this cabin. Both of our sinks would not drain. The desk and other areas were banged up and the safe looked like something exploded on the outside of it because half of the numbers were burnt off and didn't work. The safe did not function properly and the front desk disregarded us. The air conditioner didn't work properly either. On a side note, the balconies are metal, not glass. Overall, the cabin looked very worn out. They fixed our sink after us waiting hours because the plumbers were working on a 200+ toilet jam. The air conditioner was also fixed easily. Our cabin stewardess was nice, but unprofessional. We walked off the ship without even knowing her name because she never wore a name tag. She came in our room while our air conditioner and left towels for us. She never serviced our room that night. We visited our dining room (Strauss, Deck 4) to check the table we had been given (decks 3 and 4 are set dining, deck five is MyTime dining). It was a table for eight, and that is what they said we requested. I was furious because this was a very special cruise and we requested a table for four a year ago. Thankfully, we recieved a letter later that night informing us that they switched us to a table for four. Our table was in between two bussing stations and my chair got hit every night by a food cart. The food portions were very small and the food quality was subpar. The menu lacked options and the chefs gave us a hard time about anything (our waiter was very nice, though). A few real examples: "Can I get a bigger soup?" "Uh, that would be hard for the chefs. I can order you two if you want." "Can I get this as an appetizer, possibly in a smaller portion?" "No, you would have to order that as a dinner." Their desserts weren't good either. Their idea of Baked Alaska was ice cream in a dish covered with baked egg whites. I got Ben and Jerry's almost every night I felt like having dessert. Windjammer was AWFUL (Island Grill included). Everything tasted so terrible that my breakfast and lunch every day ended up being bread. I even tried the omelette station, but the eggs were so runny that I thought it was American cheese. Nope. I tried breakfast in the main dining room, but it matched the quality of the Windjammer food, yet it had better service. My only good regular lunch was in the main dining room. Sadly, they only had it on sea days and there was only one sea day. Johnny Rockets and Giovanni's Table were spectacular compared to the other venues. No suprise they both carry a cover charge. The bartenders were rude and ignored anyone they didn't feel like serving, which included me and my whole party. Our beverage package advertised Evian water and Perrier sparkling water, but we instead got brands we never heard of. Guest Services agreed with the bartenders. Speaking of Guest Services, they decided to give us $100 less than the onboard credit we were offered and basically told us it was our fault. I was furious. We only went to one show, a comedy hypnosis show. It was great, and the only reason I am giving this category less than it deserves is because they showed movies in the theater a few nights instead of a show, even though there is a dedicated screening room and a movie screen at the pool. The only enrichment activities were trivias, and I wasn't that impressed with them because you could barely understand the host. Rock climbing and ice skating were great, and so was mini-golf and other sports activites. The rock wall was hot, though. We did not do shore excursions. Port times were good. St. Thomas- Good shopping and great beaches. St. Croix- Beaches and shopping were the worst out of all the islands. Unpopular island. Antigua- Nice beaches and average shopping, but taxi drivers harass you. St. Lucia- Best beaches and best shopping. Grenada- Subpar shopping and average beaches (overpriced), although much better than St. Croix. Disembarkation was the worst. We had to wait an "unknown amount of time" in line to get off the ship because customs were full. It ended up being about a half hour. Customs moved like lightning and so did obtaining our bags, so I don't know what the hold up was for. Overall, this was overpriced (we had better experiences for less on Carnival). If you are looking at a Freedom Class ship of RCCL, go with Norwegian (Jewel class+) if you want basically the same activities (no ice skating, but they have bowling) and a great overall cruise experience. The downside is that their cabins are tiny, so if you want bigger cabins and great food, go with Celebrity. Read Less

We have sailed on RC before, but not with two kids and not on this itinerary. It turned out to be the perfect week-long getaway, we added a couple days each end in San Juan as well. The ports were awesome--each beach was more beautiful than the next. As for the ship, I too was pleasantly surprised after reading some negative reviews, and when I mentioned these to fellow passengers they were shocked that people complained. But, if you are a foodie/used to a luxury/looking for top-of-the line amenities and service, Adventure may not be for you. The rooms are showing their age--ours could definitely use some renovations but the overall ship looked to be in good shape. But why would we stay in the room... Given the port-heavy itinerary we did not spend too much time on the ship except the first and last days. My kids loved the Adventure Ocean program as well as the kids' area and mini golf course. There were a lot of families/kids on this ship, probably more because it was Spring Break season. We had a great oceanview cabin location right around the corner from the main dining room and each morning we just wandered down the hall for a good hearty breakfast. We took every dinner at the MDR which overall was very good, with a few notable misses (lobster tail, prime rib), and our waiter/assistant were very attentive, especially to the kiddos. We took advantage of RC's policy allowing two bottles of wine--which we learned too late that you we could have just bought duty free right at the San Juan port upon embarkation--and brought those to dinner. If we were in a hurry we grabbed sandwiches from the 24-hour Promenade Cafe. We didn't try Giovanni's Table or Johnny Rockets (didn't see many people there, ever). We tried the Windjammer twice for lunch and the food was simply AWFUL, service there ranged from enthusiastic to outright bored. Promenade area was nice, lots of bars to choose from. Hubby went to casino and got ripped off on a Royal Poker tournament (prize is possibly a free cruise, maybe, if you advance to the next level, but that wasn't clear until after buy-in). Ice skating show was AWESOME and by all means get there as early as possible to get a seat. We also saw a dance show and the balancing act show with Luis Dalton--that was truly amazing, as he managed to stand on his head on a champagne bottle on one of the rockiest nights at sea. Everyone raved about that show, unfortunately we also missed a Las Vegas show that I heard was really good. Hope to make more shows on the next cruise. We had one seasickness incident, my daughter threw up in Adventure Ocean one night. By the time we got back to the room, I had two messages from the ship's nurse and she had to file a report, so I think they do keep a close eye out for norovirus and other illness. The clinic closes at 7 p.m. but have motion sickness pills available in the waiting room. I did have some concerns about Adventure Ocean, while I thought the staff was fine, they did not give me any feedback at than sign in/out and they did not give pagers should there be an emergency (we happened to be at dinner the night my daughter got sick and the steward knew where we were, but otherwise I don't know how they would have found us) There seemed to be 20-25 kids and two staff at night for the 3-5 and 6-8 groups, if I had a younger child (below age 4) who could not communicate their needs, I might not have been as comfortable with this option. Shopping was the usual t-shirts and jewelry, of course they pushed Diamonds International and all the shore shopping as well. No fabulous deals but fun to look. We bought some duty-free liquor. We did not take any RC excursions, there was nothing that piqued my interest on this trip and we got much better prices by arranging our own. Did almost all our drinking off the boat. We stopped by a "welcome back" party--essentially a sales pitch--for repeat cruisers that offered free champagne, and people were grabbing as many glasses as they could carry. Nice. Oh, and the cruise director was Mercedes, have to agree she was rather annoying. Overall, I was again pleased with Royal Caribbean, and we even booked our next cruise on ship (I felt like a sucker, but it wasn't a bad deal at all--we had researched another cruise and knew what we wanted, they give immediate credits for your current trip, and they allowed us to transfer the reservation to Costco Travel, so we will still get the credits there.) Ports: St Thomas: Magen's Bay beach, absolutely beautiful but try to get there early. Food bar was expensive and not good. We rented a kayak to look for sea turtles. St. Croix: Loved Rainbow Beach, again, get there early. Food at Rhythms bar was delicious, also loved their frozen lime in coconut drink. Tried to do Cruzan tour but didn't have time, got some drinks and picked up a couple bottles instead. Antigua: Valley Church Beach, another beauty. Easily accessible via cab for $8 a person, each way. St. Lucia: Full day tour with COSOL tours, this was the highlight of the whole trip. Grenada: Half-day Spicy Scenes tour with A and E tours, highly recommend. We then took the water taxi over to Grand Anse beach. San Juan: Stayed at Old San Juan Sheraton, GREAT location to get to everything in the area. Happy to see the other boats leave so the area was less crowded :) Read Less

Our family of four traveled on Royal Caribbean this past week for Spring Break. Our son wou is 17 and daughter who is 12 also were part of the vacation. We booked 2 rooms on the interior of the ship. We saved money on the interior so we could have more space with 2 rooms. This was a great idea. The interior rooms overlooked the Royal Promenade which gave you some view. Activities aboard the ship were definately enough to keep everyone busy Ice skating and the rock wall were popular with our 12-year old daughter. The pool and outside activities kept our 17 year old son entertained. We booked 4-excursions thru Royal Caribbean and one privately. So - we had an excursion planned for every day. St. Croix - US Virgin Islands - We booked the Catamaran boat excursion and it was fabulous. The owner and her crew were fabulous. It was a relaxed outing for the first day and plenty of sun and rum punch. The afternoon we hit some lunch and shopping at the local market. A- St. Kitts We booked Zip Line Adventure for our family. The young men running the zip line were fun and made it enjoyable for everyone. Kids loved this. It included 5 zip lines with practice. The 1st zip line was the best. A- St. Maarten - We reserved jet skis thru Jet Extreme SXM. This was a 4-hour outing and we rode doubles. I drove one jet ski with our 12-year old daughter and my 17-year old son drove the other jet ski with my wife. The guide told us the ocean was calm - but this was rough ride. Luckily after the first 1 1/2 hours we ate lunch and about 45 minute break - my wife bailed out on the rest of the ride because lunch restaurant was very near our starting point. After lunch we enjoyed another 1 1/2 hours of riding. A+ Martinique - We reserved the Rainforest Hike. Twenty minute ride up the foothills into the rain forest. Our guide sets us off on about a 2-mile hike - mostly uphill. This is a difficult hike and terrain. I would not recommend unless you like some adventure and exertion. We crossed an ankle high stream. Saw a tarantula. Enjoyed the rain forest and sites. A- Barbados - probably our favorite island on the cruise. We booked the Snorkel tour and Sea Turtles. About 50 people on this tour - so it was crowded. The young men running this tour did an excellent job. First stop we saw about 4 sea turtles and swam with them. Second stop was above a small wrecked boat on the reef. Someone had fish bait with them and it attracted hundreds of small fish. So - it was pretty cool. We stopped at very nice beach and swam ashore for about 45 minutes. A- Overall - we had a fanstastic trip and very good weather. I would sail on Royal Caribbean again. Read Less

The Adventure is an odd boat within the Royal family. Never mind the fact that balconies are merely a partial window cutout of the steel side but the pace of things on the ship (including staff) moves way slower than other ships in the company portfolio. Arrival – What a nightmare. The station in San Juan is a free-for-all trying to get on the ship. No employees are directing people. There’s a line if you want to give bags to the porters but you can’t hand them one directly upon getting out of your vehicle. There’s a different line if you don’t have bags. Once you clear that hurdle you proceed to the various lines for getting your seapass card. Again, no one directing nor helping people inside the terminal. When you get to the front of the line there’s again no rhyme or reason why someone is shown an agent to begin check-in. My agent didn’t explain anything about the early schedule of events on the ship nor when rooms would be ready. I was left on my own to find the ship and figure things out. F-. Room 7340 – beware, this cabin vibrates nonstop. If you’re sensitive to that type of movement avoid this room like the plague. I’ll post a video on youtube (https://youtu.be/ryq3lcMRKJw) so you can see yourself how badly this room vibrates. In general the rooms are freshly painted. They have a tropical feel now in their color scheme. New flatscreen tv’s are nice. Bathrooms are typical for Royal. Beds in the cabin were quite firm, bordering on rock hard. After 6 days I woke with some stiffness in my back. I didn't understand why in the world they went backwards with the balconies (picture windows cut out of the side of the ship vs. full glass walls). Also, balconies are lined in this cork-like product that'd flake off when you moved a chair. Just bizarre. C. Food was pretty darn good on the ship. Windjammer had some of the most delicious food I’ve had in some time. The kitchen staff seemed to keep items changing each day. Some nights you could get cooked to order pasta or mini sliders. The final night the kitchen staff even came around offering passengers fresh chocolate covered strawberries as they wished us a safe trip home. In the main dining room the menus have recently changed. I don’t know if it’s because of the distance from the continental US but things like scallops have been removed and replaced with escargot nightly. The new items seemed to have a little bit of spice which is a welcome treat compared to some of the bland dishes of the past. Overall food on this boat was outstanding. A+ Staff – perhaps it’s just inherent from the San Juan location but employees just move way slower here, like they’re stuck on Island Time (they’ll get to it eventually). Everyone is friendly enough and work to make your experience a good one just don’t expect the same pace of staff on other ships. A- Ports - on my sailing we did St Thomas, St Kitts, Aruba, Curacao. High praise to whoever decided to allow for a 10pm departure from Aruba. Given how close the islands are overall I wish they done the same for the other islands (after all the boat only took a top speed of 14 knots during the trip). If you can, take a sailing to Aruba or Curacao. Amazing beaches and quite friendly locals. Never once did I feel in danger like I have in Jamaica. In Aruba and Curacao I rented a car and had no problems getting around the islands as they obey US driving rules - just don't make a right turn on red or you'll get a ticket. A+ Entertainment - skip it. The dancers did a good job for their part but the shows are just tired and very 80's. As an idea one of the better shows at night was a "Best of Vegas" tribute. I'd expect this kind of show on a Princess ship where people are all in their 70s but that was just not the demographics of this ship. Comedians were bad. They had this duet / audience participation act that was just awkward. Overall someone at Royal just needs to revisit nighttime entertainment in the big theater. Djs were good and the nighttime deck parties were quite the happening place. C- Final thoughts – I still love the center promenade that Royal introduced in this class and it does get used quite a lot to the overall quality of the trip. If you can pick a good room and understand that things may move at a different pace than you’re use to I’d recommend taking this ship as the ports were the reason I picked the boat. Know it won't be the same experience as Independence or Allure as you can make the ship the vacation. The food makes up for some of the distractions. Read Less

My vacation on the Adventure of the Seas was amazing & I'm so sad I'm back to reality! Background – This is my 8th cruise, I usually go on all the new ships but wanted to try something different. I loved the itinerary. I only sailed on Royal Caribbean, NCL & Carnival: love them all! I wish we didn’t have to go during spring break (airfare from NYC to SJU was insane!) but due to the teachers in my family we did it. I went with family/friends, 19 people total, ages ranging from 18 months to 70 years old. Everyone enjoyed their time. Embarkation – Quick! My friends & I spent the day In Puerto Rico & boarded around 5pm.. it was very empty… As soon as we got on the board we headed to the muster drill, ate at Johnny Rockets and enjoyed the Welcome Aboard Show. Shows/Activities – I saw a few of the shows, all good. My fave was the comedian on the last day, laughed A LOT! Sometimes it was hard to go see a show with 8:30pm dinner. Most shows were at 7 or 9pm. I went to most of the game shows (Quest, Battle of the Sexes, Finish the Lyrics, Belly Flop, Sexiest Man Comp)– what a blast!!! They were all very funny & crazy! Food – I definitely enjoyed the food. Buffet was good, main dining room was great. From being on the bigger boats, I did miss my food variety but it didn’t ruin my trip at all. I’m not sure if I would feel different if the itinerary wasn’t so port heavy. Stateroom – Good as new ! I had a promenade interior stateroom. Very roomy & clean. It was fun people watching & watching the parades. Ship – Very pretty. Did not seem old at all. Good shows, bars, public areas. The adventure wasn’t my favorite boat, as I love the big boats but no complaints. I loved the pool area. Itinerary – 5 islands in 7 days ! Great experience, but I did miss my time on the boat. Every day we woke up early, got back on the boat with minutes to spare. Barbados : Boatyard. Beautiful white sand beach, fun atmosphere ( the bar was kind of like a Senor Frogs/Margaritaville) St Lucia: Cosol Tour. Loved every minute, AMAZING. St Lucia is such a different, beautiful island. Antigua: Swam with the stingrays through Royal then went to a beach near the port. It was a fun! St Maarten: Bernard’s Tour (Beach Tour) My Favorite!!! St. Maarten is BEAUTIFUL. Loved seeing the Dutch / French side. I definitely want to go back and spend a week there. St Croix: Cruzan Rum tasting & Sandcastle beach. We had a BLAST at rum tasting… 2 drinks & basically unlimited shots for $7 dollars. Beach was very nice, people working there weren’t the nicest though. I was there with a big group (12 of us) … we got a bunch of chairs and umbrellas. My aunt & uncle left to the boat earlier than us & left their chair with us…. A worker on the beach tried to resell my aunt’s chair even though we bought them as a group & my 10 yr old niece was sitting on the chair at the time… Not cool. Overall – I had the time of my life this trip. I’m grateful I got to explore a bunch of new places & enjoy a beautiful ship. Vacation is what you make it. If you love beautiful islands, good weather, & a fun boat the Adventure is for you! Read Less

My husband and I took our 3 kids and my son's girlfriend. We arrived at the cruise port around 4 p.m. We had spent the day in San Juan at the beach. We flew in the day before and stayed at the Embassy Suites and Casino. (That's another review) The embarkation process was so easy. There were only just a couple people checking in at this time. The process was quick and easy. The cruise was fantastic. We loved all the ports. We had most of our excursions planned before the cruise and all of them were fantastic. My husband and I bought the basic drink package (beer/wine). That worked out great for us. We could always find something to eat for breakfast or a quick lunch/snack in the Windjammer. Somethings were tasty some not, but there are lots of choices. It's just a matter of tasting and figuring it out. We had chose the any time dining and were seated promptly every evening. I had booked the times online before the cruise. We sat at the same table each night with the same waiters. The wait staff was awesome. They knew what to bring us to drink without us asking. The service was very good. We enjoyed all of the options on the menu. We enjoyed most everything we ordered. After dinner we attended as many activities as we could fit in. We went to all the shows in the lyric theater, saw all the comedians, went to all the game shows and enjoyed a lot of activities in the promenade (70's dance party). We read through the compass and made a plan each night so we would not miss a thing. We loved all the activities. The entertainment was great. Our kids ages 17-21 enjoyed the shows too. The disembarkation was quick and easy. After a nice breakfast in the dining room we reported to our designated area where we were called just 10 min. later. Finding our luggage was easy and the customs check literally took 5 minutes. There were plenty of cabs available and we were back at the Embassy Suites in no time at all. We love the AOS this was our 3rd time. My only small complaint is this boat is getting a little tired. It could use some updating. The cabins need sprucing up and the halls and some areas really could use new carpeting and decor. This in no way determines what kind of trip I'm going to have, but I would give this ship an excellent rating if these changes were made. Read Less

We sailed on the Adventure of the Seas (AOS) on the March 15, 2015 sailing. Ports visited were San Juan, St Thomas, St Kitts, Aruba, and Curacao. We traveled the day ahead on March 14, 2014. Our friends who traveled on the 15th had a mechanical delay of their airplane and missed their connection to SJU and had to catch the ship in St Thomas. This is why we always travel at least the day ahead. At SJU we hired a porter to help us with our luggage and he got us to the head of the Taxi line. This was the best $15 dollars we spent the entire trip, it saved us an estimated hour wait for a taxi. We stayed the night before at the Hilton Condado 999 Ashford Avenue, San Juan, PR 00907. I reserved the hotel with award points. We had a corner room with a view of the pool. It was a nice hotel. We did not arrive until 3 pm. We checked in and then walked around the hotel. It has a small beach on the Lagoon. We walked down the street and enjoyed dinner at Waikiki Seafood and Oyster Bar. They had an excellent Puerto Rico special. After dinner we returned to the hotel and crashed. Sunday morning we met our friends and took a cab to Old San Juan to have breakfast at Café De Cortez Chocolate Bar. We love this place and always make a point to eat there. The San Juan triathlon was going on so traffic was a mess. After breakfast we returned to the hotel and checked out and go to the ship around 12:30 pm. It took us about 15 minutes to get on the ship after we dropped our luggage with the porters. We had Jr. Suite 9298. It was spacious and had a great balcony. We were near the aft Elevator and on two flights of stairs below the Wind Jammer and pool deck. The room and ship was very clean. Our room steward was excellent, keeping the ice bucket full and lots of towel animals for our 10 year old daughter. My wife decided on the premium beverage package and really enjoyed it. She found a wine she liked and covered the cost almost every day with wine, diet coke, and bottled water. We had late traditional seating. Xavier was our waiter and did an excellent job. We ate all but one meal in the MDR. We had dinner Monday evening at Giovanni’s Table. The MDR food was excellent and Giovanni’s table was worth the up charge. Beware the lemon cello. We enjoyed the shows in the Lyric Theatre. Our favorite was Beatle Mania. In St Thomas we went to Coki beach. Cab fare was $8 pp each way. There are several beach bar/restaurants at the beach and snorkel equipment rentals. It was a great day just sitting on the beach, playing in the surf and enjoying adult beverages. In St Kitts we chartered a private sail boat from Miles at Nevis Private Charters. It was a wonderful day. Miles leaves from the Reggae Beach Bar which is a $20 pp cab ride from the port. He took us snorkeling off of ship wreck beach then to a beach restaurant on Nevis. The weather was perfect and Miles is an outstanding captain. In Aruba we hired a local taxi to take us to Palm Beach. We hung out there for 4 or 5 hours then had lunch at Red Fish restaurant recommended by our cab driver. Lobster was only $18 US and was outstanding. We picked up the last bottle of rum crème in Aruba. In Curacao we took and island tour and then spent a few hours at Mambo Beach. After the last day at sea we off boarded headed to our post cruise hotel. There were only 2 customs agents working when we got off the ship and the line was very slow moving even with the porter. We stayed post cruise at the La Concha Renaissance San Juan Resort. It was a nice clean hotel with a great beach and pool. It is located next to a local park and there was a concert Sunday evening until 10 pm which we could hear from our room. After breakfast Monday morning at the CrepeMaker de Puerto Rico we checked out of our room and headed for the airport. Flight from SJU to BWI was great but we found out that our flight from BWI to MCI was canceled. We quickly got on a flight to MDW and luckily after spending the night at Gate B21 we got on the first flight out from MDW to MCI on standby. Flights were being canceled the rest of the day so we would have spent a full day in Chicago if we did not make the first flight. Not enough to run a vacation. This is why when traveling you always have to be ready for complications. I don’t mind missing the flight home but I don’t ever want to miss the ship sailing. We enjoyed the trip so much we booked the Navigator out of Fort Lauderdale next spring break. We turned diamond on this cruise. Read Less

My wife and I have sailed with a number of cruise lines , but to be honest Royal Caribbean has never been one we have through personal choice fancied travelling with. However, in light of the extensive media there is in the UK as to how 'wonderful' their cruises are my wife and I decided to give them a 'fair and open' chance to prove us wrong by taking a two day sampler cruise to nowhere. We specifically chose this cruise as there was not a planned port of call as we know that when in port, venues etc are closed onboard and therefore with them being open it would gives us a good opportunity to in effect make a personal review, to decide whether we would book a longer cruise at a later date. About 4 days prior to sailing, we received an email to say the ship would now make a port of call stop to Cherbourg (France) which defeated the reason why we chose the cruise in the first place. Day one - Embarkation at Southampton, this was swift and fairly painless and was much inline with our normal experiences of the port. At check there were people giving out information sheets advising of the revised cruise to include Cherbourg due to Custom & Excise regulations which would have prevented them opening the spa and casino etc......... As they needed to be seen to dock in international waters. Once checked in we went onto the ship and having not eaten anything we made our way up to the buffet restaurant. This was about 11:30 in the morning, and already the hot food was not only 'Luke warm' but totally tasteless. I had two different types of chicken, which were in addition to being Luke warm, were so over cooked I could have leathered the soles of my shoes with them. As a couple who previously owned the rights to use a 3 bedroom time share villa in Orlando, we are fully appreciative of our experiences of American service, but as we sat and ate our meal, the body language and indeed verbal language of some of the staff, really surprised us. Later in the day, after un-packing our luggage in our cabin, we made our way to the 'freedom' style restaurant to make a reservation for a table for two for our preferred eating time, to be advised that they only make reservations for tables for two at 17:30 or 17:45. When we sat down for our meal (which typically on previous cruises we would expect to take around 90 minutes over) we were in and out in less than 40 minutes...was like being on a conveyor belt, indeed the waiters were clearing plates of the first person, before the second had finished. Day Two - the buffet restaurant started cooked breakfast from 7am, because of medical tablets I have to take, this was absolutely perfect, however on reaching the buffet at 07:02 yet again the so called 'hot food' was at best described as Luke warm.......... My hash browns were actually cold. We chose not to get off at Cherbourg having been there número use times independently. Our evening meal experience mirrored that of the previous night....... Conveyor belly, but unlike the previous night where the food was quite tasty, the main course was at best described as tasteless. We ended up in the drinks/ entertainment lounge on deck 5 that has an eastern name (had a mental block as to it's name as I write this). We were two of about 18 people in there and after waiting 10 minutes for a drinks waiter to come to us, we walked out. During this time, the waiter spent the whole time chatting to the person behind the bar, and took drinks to one table only........ Totally appalling! Day one and two......... During the cruise the open air 'inline skating' rink was shut because the track was wet!!!!! ............... The general store (duty free) was shut displaying a sign, that as the ship was not leaving territorial waters for international waters they could not open; but that is exactly why they added the port call to Cherbourg for to ensure they were in international waters. My wife wanted to go rock climbing but on each occasion we went to the wall it was shut, and I was advised by a teenager that he had been told it was shut for the duration of the cruise. The most ludicrous issue was that on a Cashless cruise to play the casino including slots, we had to go to the casino cashier to physically 'BUY' dollars as the slots could not be used by entering your cruise card as the facility was not available on the cruise. So we were charged 3% to buy dollars, whereas had we known, we could have brought some along with us, as we keep a supply of dollars at home. To be honest we feel totally let down by Royal Caribbean, indeed the UK Head Office has not even responded to a let of complaint sent, which does lead us to a total negative experience. We fully appreciate others will say RCI is the best thing since sliced bread, but it would be interesting to see what your genuine thoughts would be if you experienced what we did! Read Less

Weather was great all except for the last day at sea. I know no one can control the weather. Ports were cool. Each has it's personality making them unique in their own way. Staff was extremely friendly and eager to help and assist in way they can to ensure you have a delightful vacation. Sure, there are cranky and pushy guest here and there, never satisfied, always complaining but you will have that everywhere you go. The food was wonderful in all restaurants. Not every meal was exceptional but overall very good. The servers were fantastic and made a point to anticipate every need. For example, you ask for hot tea after dinner for two nights in a row, you will have it brought to you from then on without requesting it. The cabin steward made sure to watch our routine to know when was a good time to come in to clean and prepare the room. The room was always clean and spotless. About the only criticism was that there were a few food crumbs and old dry-cleaning bags under the bed when we arrived. I made a point to look there after reading some of the threads here. I cannot really comment on the shows because we only saw the welcome show. The ice show lived up to our expectations and was amazing. Not to be missed! I am a little disappointed that we missed the adult Quest activity. I hear that was um, memorable ;-) The captain was always timely with updates on every port (time, weather etc). Very professional and we always felt secure and safe. Loved the Q & A lecture with the captain and hotel manager. We have a few criticisms regarding shore excursions. I will not go into detail here on each but let's just say, a more detailed description of each excursions should be available for those of us that are excessive planners. I would extend some disappointment to the dining staff for failure to enforce the dress code. I realize many guests are lazy and just do not care but at home in a comparable restaurant, they WOULD BE TURNED AWAY and not permitted in. This is no different. If you are asked to wear a suit and tie, do it. If it is casual, it does not EVER mean shorts or tee shirts. Men are the worst offenders. Embarkation was flawless. The only thing that needs improvement would be the logistics of the boarding photographs. It seemed people were continuously crossing the photographers to move on to actually board the ship. Was not quite seem-less but not bad. Debarkation was perfect! Having to process thousands of pieces of luggage in only a few hours to have it all neatly organized in the terminal is amazing! We just returned from our spring break cruise aboard the Adventure of the Seas (AOS). We were on the 7-night Southern Caribbean itinerary that included the following ports: St. Croix, St. Maarten, Antigua, St. Lucia and Barbados. We sailed out of San Juan Puerto Rico. This was our first time in San Juan and our first time at any of these ports of call. First let me say that we loved the AOS! For us (mom, dad, 15 yr old daughter and 13 yr old son), the size of the ship was great. Not too big, not too small. We are used to smaller ships (Disney ships and Royal's Majesty & Legend of the Seas), so this was a step up size-wise for us. I have read a lot of negative reviews about Pan American pier in San Juan and their check in process. We had a very pleasant experience. We arrived late (around 3pm) on purpose as we were hiking in El Yunque earlier in the day. I think we waited 30 minutes to check our bags, 15 minutes to get through security and had NO WAIT at all to check in! Crown & Anchor members had a separate line to wait in and we sailed right on through (pardon the pun). Granted, it's not a pretty port (not like Port Canaveral), but it served its purpose. I wasn't there to sight see at the port.... We stayed in cabin 7650, a Superior Oceanview with Balcony. It was a port side cabin located mid/aft (more aft). We loved the balcony and am very glad we had it. It would have been tight quarters without it! The room had a great view, was quiet, and the location was perfect where we barely felt any ship movement. As far as the ports are concerned - they were great!!!! We only did one excursion with the ship. Otherwise we either did stuff on our own or with private tour companies. Highly recommend Cosol's island tour in St. Lucia and Eli's Eco Tour in Antigua!!!! My kids did not participate in the teen programs. Not for any reason other than they would just prefer to hang out with us. So, unfortunately, I cannot review those programs. From what I saw on their daily compass, the activities seemed fun. There weren't any teen-specific excursions, which I think would definitely be an added value to the itinerary. Overall, we had am absolutely wonderful experience with the Adventure of the Seas. We would love to sail with her again on the 2nd portion of her itinerary to Aruba!!! Read Less
