We, because of price and spouse are "Loyal to Royal". But I'm serious thinking not such a great idea. If they are going to continue using older ships they really need to stop a day and CLEAN them thoroughly!! Entertainment was Excellent!! This class ship (as we sailed back-to-back with the Navigator of the Seas) won't be our choice anytime soon. **The plus is the food was good and entertainment also very good. The service in the dining room was lacking and definitely not what I would expect from Royal Caribbean. We had a wonderful excursion at St. Kitts, we've visited the island but never took one before. I highly recommend. It was for the Fort and Plantation house. Great Price and 5 star if you like history & views. Royal Caribbean needs new activities for folks that don't wish to sunbath & drink entire trip. Heck, I'd enjoy history lectures of islands visiting, etc. Just something new please. Read Less

We liked the 8 night cruise instead of 7. The embarkation was probably the best we have experienced in many, many cruises. There were 300 Diamond Members and 200 Diamond Plus Members - all stuffed into the lounge and spilling out into the Viking Crown Lounge. Luggage was delivered in ample time to unpack before muster. We are Diamond Plus with over 300 nights on Royal. However, We did not have robes - did not have shampoo - did not have lotion - did not have our free bottle of wine - when we entered the cabin. As it was a busy day, we were ok with it being delivered the next day. Surprise - not delivered on day 2 either!. When I asked the cabin steward about it - he said that we had to REQUEST those things or we wouldn't get them. I said OK - I request them. Everything but the wine was delivered that night. I called the Loyalty rep and had to leave a message. Day 3 was my birthday. Since it was formal night and the meal was steak - we planned to drink the red wine from Crown and Anchor.... You guessed it - NO WINE. No wine on Day 4. Finally after repeated trips to the loyalty desk - wine was delivered - only it was PINK WINE - not red. Another trip to the loyalty desk and a trade was made. The loyalty rep apologized profusely and said that we would be his guest to dinner at the Chops Grill to make up for the glitch. We were happy. Reservations were at 6:00. We checked in at 5:55 and were seated. We waited - waited - waited. It was 6:20 and we were still sitting... No message from the loyalty rep. We asked the waiter to please try to contact him to see if he was coming. We were informed that he would TRY to be there by 6:40 and we should go ahead and order. About 6:45 he showed up and scarfed up food while on his cellphone. He accepted 6 calls from various people during dinner. Needless to say - we couldn't wait to get out of there. We even skipped dessert. The ports were places we had been before, so we just did an overview tour. On San Juan, we did want to see the city but did not want to shop, so we signed up for the "Old and New San Juan" tour. We did it online and chose that tour because it did not include shopping. The driver went straight to the downtown area and kicked everybody off the bus for one hour to "shop". We objected and others objected as well, but he said he had to move the bus and we needed to leave. We wasted a whole hour of a 2 1/2 hour tour just sitting. When we complained - we were referred to "Freddie", Asst Mgr of the Tours and he told us that RCI Tours were not in charge of the tours and there was nothing he could do. Is there noone following up on these tours???? That's scary. The rest of the cruise was fun. The dining staff were excellent. Food was tasty and varied. We really liked the Diamond Breakfast areafor a quiet fresh breakfast. It is a nice perk. Disembarkation went about as smoothly as we have seen. All in all - We do enjoy cruising and we normally are treated very well on Royal. I think this was just a fluke. I sure hope so - because we are going again with Royal in February. This was our first RC cruise. The ship was beautiful and the service was excellent. We ate in the Windjammer and the food was so much better than Carnival. My husband and I both gained weight. So many deserts, it was hard to choose one so we didnt just have one. If you take this cruise sit in section 12. The wait staff were all so sweet and helpful, I hated to say goodbye to them. We stayed in an inside promonade cabin. It was uncomfortable. Small and no place confortable to sit. It also was loud at times. Our cabin mate was wonderful and did everything he could do to try and soften up our bed but nothing worked. Our ports 1- Labadee is really beautiful, lots of fun in the water. And again the lunch they served was wonderful. 2- PR I love this place. Have been there a couple times. Just wear really comfortable broken in shoes. Don't get blisters like I did. See the fort and the cemetery and eat a mofongo and see if you can find the snow cone man (we couldn't find him this time) lots of walking and lovely shops. 3- St Maartin - we stayed at the boardwalk, shopped some We should have taken a tour. 4- St Kitts - we did the 4x4 and beach. It was ok, saw a lot of the island. The tour people were informative and very nice. We had already seen Brimstone on a prior cruise. If its your first time to the island Brimstone is the way to go. I was not able to get a lounger near the pool. It was always so crowded. My husband is a smoker so he sat at the smoking area on deck 11 all the time. No I will not be booking another cruise for a long time. I was more comfortable on the Carnival Ship. It was cheaper, the food wasn't as good so I didn't eat much and didn't gain weight. Having the smoking area near the pool causes a problem for a couple where one smokes and the other doesn't. if felt like I was always by myself. Read Less

Cruised with my wife and another couple choosing this cruise because of the 8 nights and ports of call. We are all Diamond members and have cruised exclusively on RCCL. Flew into Ft. Lauderdale the day before and enjoyed our stay at the Embassy Suites. Took a Taxi to the cruise port arriving at 10:45 am and was on the ship by 11:30 am eating lunch. Embarkation was smooth and all the RCCL workers were friendly and helpful. One change is that you do not get your sea pass card until you get to your room at 1 pm. One complaint is the muster drill. I know it is mandatory but our station was directly facing the sun and we were packed in like sardines for 20 minutes in 85 degree heat sweating profusely. Some people could not take it and walked inside to get some air, made me half sick to my stomach. We had a inside cabin on the 7th floor with a window facing the promenade and our room attendant Joel was excellent, keeping our room clean, stocked with ice and answering any questions we had. We ate in the MDR 6 nights and found the food very good. Some nights better than others but overall the selection was diverse. We ate in Chops and had a excellent meal and in Giovannis Table and found the food and service just OK. The Windjammer was very good for Breakfast and Lunch, especially enjoyed the fresh fruit everyday. Enjoyed the Ice Show and comedians and the RCCL singers and dancers were above average compared to some shows I have seen on other ships. One complaint is the Cruise Director was as plastic as you could get. Compared to some of the excellent Cruise Directors we have sailed with in the past he was below average. The Love and Marriage Game could have been better but he was just going through the motions. All 4 felt this way about him whenever he emceed an event. We have a motto that sometimes things are not going to be perfect so we go with the flow and don't let the small things bother you and ruin your vacation. The RCCL employees try hard to please everyone and keep the ship clean as possible in the time they have. I am an early riser and found employees cleaning at 6 am with a smile on there face and a Good Morning when I went for coffee. The pool area on Cruise Days were packed but we were able to find a place in the shade and if we wanted sun we sat on the edge of the pool enjoying the music and atmosphere. Because of the time of the year there were very few children on board. Labadee is a fun day, just a beautiful place to relax. Did not do excursions because we had been to the ports of call San Juan, St. Kitts and St Martin several times but still enjoy shopping at St. Martin and St. Kitts. The Diamond Club is a nice perk but with over 630 members on board RCCL needs to find an alternative to how people were served. The concierge was rude and not helpful and did not make RCCL any friends when asked about the situation. Especially when the serving area is packed in a room that seats an estimated 40 to 50 people. We are planning on cruising again on RCCL with an Hawaii Cruise on the Ovation of the Seas in the fall of 2019. Read Less

The embarkation and disembarkation was very very smoothly. Because I was traveling on previous years, I know the ship very well and it is very nice to travel on it . The cabin is spacious and well located, also, the service is pretty good. Related to the dinning room, It was exceptional located and best service is offered to guest. The maitres was very frendly with my wife and I. The are a lot of activities on the ship to entertain youth and older people, all activities well organized. I have to mentioned the good service on Windjammer and service desk were the Serv Rep were very frendly with my wife and me. Its important to mention that the ports of PR, St Marteen and Cape Liberty are great ports to visits were Royal caribbean has a lot of excursion available for all. Wit probability if we go to a cruise on next Dec 16, 2018 (4 adults and 2 children) we select the Freedom with new port in Puerto Rico. Best succcess Read Less

We took a January cruise on the beautiful Oasis and the Adventure is every bit as beautiful but understandably smaller. I was not disappointed. I specifically chose this 5-day cruise from San Juan, PR to Bayonne, NJ to enable me to reach Diamond status. I needed 9 cruise points and the Jr. Suite was priced low enough to book which gave me double cruise points for the suite. This was my first suite and I was amazed how much storage was available. We had cabinets we didn't even use thanks to the large walk-in closet with a wall of shelves! Also a tub/shower. We flew in to San Juan from Dallas arriving around 1pm. We opted to take a taxi from the airport to the pier for $26 set fare and were able to split this cost with another couple we saw at baggage claim. Easy embarkation and departed for St. Maarten at 8pm. The cruise made only this one stop and we took a $6 cab ride from the pier to the courthouse in Philipsburg, and from there walked up the beach "boardwalk" to a bar called "Pirates 'n Paradise" and when we saw the Ohio State flag and sign, we had to stop since my wife is an alumni. We sat at the bar overlooking the boardwalk and the beautiful beach for a beer and some great people watching. The next 3-days were at sea and we enjoyed the food and entertainment provided. The ice show was spectacular and the other singers, dancers, orchestra, comedian, and juggling act were great to watch. Advertised activities were popular for the variety of guests. Food was good. We usually ate breakfast at Windjammer and coffee was excellent (strong) whereas one day, we ate breakfast at main dining room where sit-down service was slow and coffee was weak. Main Dining room dinner was good and service generally excellent. We only had two gripes. On the last sea day, we could not access our in-room TV services menu to review our bill. When it was delivered the final morning, there were two errors overcharging us $222 which required we wait in a long line at guest services to get resolved. They could have used more representatives to help. After that the walk-off disembarkation in Bayonne, NJ went smoothly until we exited the cruise terminal building for a fairly long walk to the Taxi shed in a parking lot across the potholed street. We had looked online earlier for taxi fares rather than using Royal Caribbean bus service, and the taxi was "supposed" to be about $38 from the terminal to Newark airport which would have been a good deal. There was a severe shortage of Taxis. We were told to get in the only one there and he left without us. They called for another cab and one finally arrived and as we were loading luggage we were told the fare would be $65 plus toll. We went ahead and took the ride for $70. The RCI bus would have been about $59. By the way, Uber and Lyft were also a possibility, but we never expected the complete lack of taxis and the "fare jacking". I only wish we could have had someone to share the taxi with us. Read Less

We sailed on the Eastern itinerary with stops in St. Maarten, St Kitts, Antigua, St. Lucia, and Barbados. We arrived the day before and stayed at the Courtyard Isla Verde. It's a nice property that allowed us to have some beach time before we boarded. As checkout was 11:00 we took a taxi then to the terminal. At the terminal, we checked our bags quickly and then had to wait until after 12:00 for the doors to open to check in. It was chaotic at this time, and if I had to do it again I would arrive a few hours later once things settled down. Once in check in was quick and we were on board within 15 minutes of entering the building. For the stops: - St Maarten - took a private tour with a day pass at the Sonesta Maho beach. Fantastic! - St. Kitts - booked Thenford Grey's Grand tour. Well worth it. - Antigua - Had the ships snorkel and kayak booked, but this was canceled due to weather. Walked around port, but not much to see. This did make a good down day after the prior two - St Lucia - Took the ships zip lining by the Pitons. Very nice boat ride back and forth. The zip lining was ok. - Barbados - Hired Carson Moore for a tour of the island. Highly recommended. The service in the main dining and the cabin was great with the staff going out of their way to ensure we had what we needed. The food in the main dining was mostly good and the Windjammer was what you would expect for this style of buffet. The ship as a whole is showing some wear and will definitely benefit from it's October scheduled dry dock. All in all, we had a good time and are looking forward to seeing the Adventure next year after the refresh. Read Less

Location and chance to see new islands in this part of the Carribean. Our flight and embarkation on the same day was the best ever. No wait time in terminal a all. Had direct flight from Houston, Texas, 4 hours only. . Our cabin was the snag for the day. Several problems and finally had to get housekeeping guru ti come to clear up the mess. Wine and champagne did the trick. Our dining partners each evening were interesting and enjoyable. We were 5 different couple as from different places in North America. Each evening conversations were most interesting. Dining services was the best we could expect. Only 1or 2 missteps on foods. The ice shows were exceptional on both shows. These performers were excellent as we sat in different locations for shows. Ports and shore excursions were good. 2 shore excursions were on our own. Barbados and Martinique did our own touring. Had birding excursion with guide from Holland now making her home on the island. Gave us good history and cultural facts as she drove us around. We would come again for more birding here. No c .hildren as we are seniors. Movies were good not out of the ordinary. Several evening shows were most entertaining. Enjoyed morning room service when going ashore. Nice perk. A good cruise for the reasons we wanted. Just coming and going to and fron San Juan, Puerto were the best ever. Read Less

Let me tell you about the positive things before I go into full curmudgeon mode. I took this cruise to be part of a group of people who were also taking this cruise. I don't think I would have chosen it otherwise. Where we stayed: We stayed at Embassy Suites in San Juan before and after the cruise. Somehow our travel agent had gotten the information that we could walk to the pier, but it was a good $21 taxi ride to Old San Juan and/or the dock. Embarkation: Getting on the ship was easy. We arrived not too long after the start of the official boarding time , and pretty much walked our way onto the ship with only a few waits. Later we found our travel agent had recommended we board a few hours later, so perhaps we just got lucky. The Ship: The Adventure of the Seas is impressive. It features an indoor Promenade which gives you the illusion of being in a small village, and the ship has top-of-the-line amenities - huge gymn, outdoor sports areas, indoor ice rink, theater, casino, miniature golf….etc…There were plenty of elevators and they were very fast and smooth. Ship decor and art was interesting and we had fun discovering new art work in different rooms, stairwells, and corridors. Onboard activities: We didn't participate in most of the onboard scheduled activities. I went to meetings with my group, while my husband attended a seminar on beer, and a short Spanish class. We both enjoyed the "Beatle Maniacs" show one evening. We missed most of the last-night parade because we were busy packing. I didn't go to the "Meet and Mingle" but my husband did, and he enjoyed it very much. Service: Service was excellent. Iggy and Iwayan were two crew members who went above-and-beyond for us. One glitch was that my room key didn't work four times in a row - the first few times I was told that perhaps something in my purse was degmagnetizing it, but after I put it in a plastic bag and carried it separately it still wouldn't work and then they decided that perhaps my husband and my keys were incompatible, and they re-did both of them and there were no further problems. Shore Excursions: We took two shore excursions: On Barbados we took tour #BB14 "Harrison's Cave and Island Tour" where the highlight was an electric tram ride through Harrison's Cave. I enjoyed this tour very much. There is some disagreement about the way the cave was damaged when the tram tunnel was built, but you will have to decide for yourself. On St. Lucia we took tour #SL46 "The Island's Delights" which covered a lot of ground but was frustrating to my husband because many of the photo stops were only five minutes. We visited a small fishing village, had lunch in a hillside restaurant, visited the 'drive-in' volcano, and toured the botanical gardens. If I were to visit St. Lucia again I would just choose one activity. In Antigua we walked around the town on our own, and on St. Maarten and St. Croix we hired taxis to drive us around. The taxi driver in St. Maarten was very reasonable and gave us more than we paid for, but the taxi service in St. Croix (in the area just off the pier) shortchanged us. I learned the valuable lesson "get it in writing." Also, I realize I should have gone back and made a fuss at the time, because I am getting no response to my emails. (I never said I was smart.) Cabin: Cabin was standard size with lots of storage and was always kept up nicely. One odd thing was that some passengers before us must have had a party, because there were decorations hanging from the ceiling. The in-room refrigerator was full of over-priced food and beverage, and our steward said she couldn't remove it, so we had to stack everything on a counter so that we had somewhere to store our two bottles of wine. Dining: We ate dinner in the main dining room three times and I wasn't too impressed. We seldom go to high-end restaurants, we save our money for travel, but my feeling was there didn't seem to be enough staff for the work expected of them. Most meals seemed to drag on for hours, and food was not always hot when it arrived. I much preferred the Windjammer Buffet, which had a wide selection. I usually do a 'walk around' of the buffet line and then come back and choose what I want. To me the advantage of the buffet is that you can take a small portion of something to find out if you like it and you can try more things. They also had a pretty good salad bar, carving stations, and at times there was specialty food like sushi. There was a small soft serve yogurt bar outside the Windjammer main area, and an excellent 24-hour deli in the Promenade with several food options so you would never go hungry. We didn't go to any of the 'extra cost' restaurants - I didn't see the point. ( I still haven't lost the weight I gained on the cruise.) Childrens' Activities: We didn't bring any children, but the childrens' club area looked bright and colorful, and most of the children seemed to be having a great time. Disembarkation: Disembarkation was pretty standard. My only dislike here was that the man who put our two bags into the taxi (we didn't ask him to do that) wouldn't let us leave until we had given him a tip. Be sure to carry a lot of small bills for the last day. Summary: What this cruise line does, it does very well. If you are looking to enjoy yourself, sit in the sun, have a few drinks, take in some light entertainment, maybe go snorkeling when you are in port, I can't think of a better ship. Where my fur got rubbed the wrong way, though (and why I will probably never take this cruise line again) was the constant emphasis on "buy buy buy" - if it wasn't a 24-hour sales spiel on the television, it was a four-page insert in the daily "Cruise Compass" with a port shopping map showing you all the Diamonds International shops and their ilk , and not much else. There were "two hours only" special sales and raffles from the onboard shops, and, of course, The Art Auction. I didn't go on the cruise to buy jewelry or art. I was hoping to learn a little more about the islands we visited, but I found that if you didn't bring a guide book or have good internet access you were out of luck - the "Cruise Compass" offered only scanty information- a short paragraph on the history of the island and a list of 'top things to do'. The television stations were also limited and kept repeating the same news programs, situation comedies, and movies. I realize that I am probably in the minority here, because I expect most people probably take a cruise to get away from it all, and probably enjoy not knowing what is going on in the rest of the world. (Yes, we had maps on our smart phones, but I'm the old school type who likes to have a paper map. Would it have bankrupted the cruise company to have replaced just one of their pages of advertising with maps of the destination islands and cities?*) My last quibble was about the "nickle and dining" everywhere. I can see where they wouldn't want to be offering free wine with lunch and dinner (as we had on our last two European River Cruises) but when we were leaving the ship one day I had noticed they had large bins full of bottled water, and I thought "well, that's nice", but then I asked for a bottle the nice young man said you had to pay for it. Where I live even the cheapest guided tour offers you a bottle of cold water, but I guess Royal Caribbean doesn't worry that passengers are going around the islands getting dehydrated. Summary: I guess my main dislike of this style of cruising is that I want to feel special and sophisticated when I travel, not treated like someone who is not interested in the world, or history. Even if I did once ponder the possibility of filling my suitcases with cookies from the dessert table, I would like to be treated like a polished traveler who would not abuse the privilege of having a small glass of wine with their meals. One other consideration on travelling on such a large ship - when five such ships land in one port, each with possibly 3,000 passengers, most of who you are going to meet on shore, at least near the port, are other passengers. That sort of dilutes the experience. *The 'tourist information' booths near the port were sometimes very good, and sometimes empty.   Read Less
