Cabin 7232 ..size of balcony was very nice. Lots of storage. But no special soaps and stuff like I'm use to. Windjammer (buffet) ..no service everything was self service and the choice of foods were limited . I only went here 2 times when forced . Promenade restaurant did a great job on pizza , also at breakfast had a small variety. But the food tasted good. Main dining, the service was great!!! Breakfast and lunch were good. Dinner had very little change from night to night, also was were most of our group had problems with the food. Fish really smelled. If you are vegetation or Vegan you will have a terrible time eating. The Promenade was dark , I always felt as if it were night. Lacked in shows. They didn't repeat the movies under the stars on the tv. I did like the new registration process. All the people working on the ship was amazing!! You could smell the smoke from the casino on deck 5 (casino is on deck 4) Don't leave anyone that is disabled down on the port .. Our friends were forgotten and had to work their way onto the ship. It has been 9 years since we used RCCL and the changes have been significant. No more: ice in room (unless you ask), no more towel animals (only 3x per cruise) only one steward per room (no assistant), lower quality and choices of food, charges for nearly everything, rooms smelly and unclean and dinner dress code non-existent. Adventure of the Seas is for young drinkers and was poorly designed. Dining room in the middle of the ship. Elevators only forward and center making it a hike if your stateroom was towards the aft. RCCL compares to Carnival and certainly NOT to Holland America. We received NO help on getting boarding passes for return home and we would HAVE to purchase a minimum of one days internet ($9.95) to do that The future cruise director refused to help me and I am 70% blind. Only saving point was the Irish Pub on board but they only had one draft beer because they couldn't get their other beer taps fixed. The dinner servers were great as were the bartenders at the "Duck & Dog". Otherwise it was poor example of what RCCL used to be. We will not use again. They overdid their cost cutting. WE would rather pay a bit more and get more of what a cruise line should be. Shore excursions are way overpriced and there was a very limited choice. Much better deals at the end of the docking pier. This is possibly the worst cruise I have ever sailed on. As a Royal Caribbean Diamond member I have been on quite a few cruises and reviewed every one of them. This one was the pits. Just as a reference, I travel alone and booked a medium suite (GS grade). The boarding went smoothly enough and there were no queues (I arrived at 1.00pm.) Issued with my charge card I made my way up to the 10th.floor and attempted to get in my stateroom. No such luck. I had to make my way down to guest relations and queue for 20 minutes to get the key re-programmed. And then make my way back up to 10. It transpired that the staff had had trouble since early boarding with faulty electronics on deck 10. There is no joined up thinking. Staff will not take responsibility for any problem. Anyway, I at last managed to get inside my cabin. I have never taken photos of problem areas as there really haven’t been any. Anyway, on this review I am going to make an exception. Several photos showing the state of the cabins have been published at: elvendon.phanfare.com Bear in mind that this ship was docked for refurbishment in the Bahamas only a couple of weeks ago. Added at that time were an outdoor cinema screen, a re-branding of the one specialty restaurant and new signage. What RCCL didn’t do was clean the cabins. No profit in that! Anyway, went to get a bath the following morning and as soon as I turned the taps on was met by a stream of brown water. This cleared after a minute or so. This was reported to the floor manager who said he would look into it. Not really interested. Didn’t want to look at the problem – would not take ownership. I would also suggest that RCL look at adding a non-slip bathmat which might save them thousands of dollars in compensation when people slip in the bath. You will see a picture of the grime around the sink in the stateroom. Need I say more. The cabin attendants are so busy that they haven’t got time to complete the tasks that they are supposed to perform. And the floor manager couldn’t care less. Well, I hear you say, why didn’t you complain. I’ll tell you why. It would have fallen on deaf ears. I was spending over £300 per day for this vacation. If you need to complain – you are not spending your money wisely. I have no intention of writing through the pros and cons of a four night trip taster cruise. I never went ashore. Other notes that might interest you: 1: No general shop open for the whole voyage. Note on doors said that due to Customs problems they were unable to open the shop. It sells tobacco and alcohol. It also precluded passengers purchasing mouth wash or toothpaste or plasters etc. The only reasons that the shop was shut was because either (a): RCL couldn’t earn enough or (b): there was insufficient staff. 2: Very poor shows. No named acts other than a Beatles tribute band on the third night. RCL do not seem to provide a decent budget for stage shows. It’s all very well providing good entertainment on the Oasis – with the likes of the Lion King or Chicago etc. What about your average punter who has paid good money to be entertained by a group of dancers who are paid near the minimum wage. People were walking out after the first 20 minutes (the show lasted 40 minutes). Getting back to staff shortages – On at least one day I wanted an alcoholic drink at 12.45pm. There was only one bar open!! People were queuing 5 deep to get a drink. This is very short sighted – more staff more revenue. As a final point I would mention that my cabin was not made up until at least 13.00 on every day (except the last). The steward was grossly overworked. All in all a very disappointing cruise. Times were shown where suite customers could jump ahead of the general clientele. This did not happen. On more than one occasion I was informed that separate seating arrangements “were not available on this cruise” and that I would have to queue up with the rest of them. This is fine if you are not paying £300 per day for the privilege. Then, I think, I’m entitled to be first. The following point is also worth mentioning: On the third day we were meant to be “cruising”. This according to RCCL is a euphemism for remaining 40 miles north of Le Havre and 45 miles south of Southampton without moving. We remained all day just stuck in the middle of the English Channel only moving with the tide. Strangely enough the signal for mobile phones went down early AM whilst we were stuck in the channel and only came back on again when we approached Southampton – early AM the following day. I would point out though that the satellite stateroom phones were working 100%. Even though they were connected to the same satellite service as mobiles. Maybe a case of extra revenue for the ship to shore phones? Just one last point that I thought that I should mention: The 10 piece band. Absolutely first class. While there were some positive thisngs about this cruise, the negative were so overpowering that I will probably never use Royal Caribbean again. The service in the diniing room was impeccable, although when we initially were seated (at the 6pm seating) we were given a cramped table next to both the sairway and the kitchen. This was changed after I threatened to withhold all dining room gratuities. Anothewr complaint about the main dining room was formal nights. Some people came in dressed in jeans and T-shirts. They enforced dress rules about short and bare feet, why can't they also enforce a dress code on formal nights. Those passengers that don't want to dress still have other dining options. I guess that tips are more important than dress codes. Getting on and off the ship at the pports of call was a total disaster. Only 4 of 16 elevators were available and these same elevators were kept in general service. It took a full 20 minutes to get from the first deck to deck 5 when re-boarding the ship. It would have been a very simple matter to designate them for emarkation and debarkation only. Leaving the ship at the end of the cruise was so dos-organized that I cannot descibe it inlanguage that is fit for family reading. Despite the normal group number attempt, and scheduling times, delays began as early as group3. We ended up finally getting off 90 minutes after our scheduled time. The entertainment, as such, was strictly teen age music and shows. There was no easy listening or standards be played anywhere on the ship. We are diamond cruisers with Royal Caribbean and until now have enjoyed our cruising experience with them. After our recent transatlantic crossing we will never cruise with them again. The ship was scruffy, the cafe promenade was shut, but none of these things initially put us off. However 4 days into the cruise my husband came down with the norovirus. That was bad enough but the way they handled this was a disgrace in my opinion. Our bathroom and probably our bedroom was highly contaminated due to this illness. However despite the fact that I reported this to management on four occasions, our bathroom was not cleaned until 5 and a half hours after it was first reported to them and only after I personally visited guest services and told them that they were going to be the cause of my getting the noro virus. Even then they just cleaned the bathroom, not the bedroom. As predicted I did get the virus. I did not recover as quickly as my husband because I have a hiatus hernia, and had to revisit the doctor. On this occasion they charged me $124 despite it being their fault that I became unwell. It appears that because I happened to have a hiatus hernia it was my fault that I did not get better quickly enough. We didn't have any such problems on previous sailings but I guess that you only know how you will be treated when something like this happens and Royal Caribbean, in my opinion have been found severely lacking. We had no idea that the virus was on the ship until my husband got it and then we were told (not by management}that several people had the virus. To this day we do not know how many, That information was kept well under wraps. After my husband had got the virus, the captain announced once that a 'few' people on the ship had the virus. Both my husband and myself are very meticulous about washing hands and using sanitisers. It did not prevent my husband from getting it, and of course I know how I got it. There was also a chest infection going around the ship and I guess because my immune system was low due to the virus, I also got this infection. This time I had my own antibiotics. I feel that what I have experienced is down to the money grabbing policy of this cruise line and I will not be making the mistake of risking another cruise with them. In addition to all this, the entertainment was below par except for the ice show. I thought the food was of a very poor quality both in the windjammer and the dining room. I had put this down to my illness and lack of appetite However several guests that I spoke to said they did not think the food was of a good standard either. I wrote 2 letters t management whilst on board ship complaining about the fact that our cabin was not cleaned promptly and also that I was charged for my second visit to the doctor. Both were ignored. When I got home I wrote to Royal Caribbean about the matter. That also has been ignored. I have now decided to make a formal claim against them and I would be interested to know if anyone else suffered the noro virus whilst on board and who may like to also seek recompense for the ordeal. As far as I was concerned the whole experience was an ordeal not to be repeated. Read Less
