The Carnival Sunshine is a make-over of the Carnival Destiny. I am Platinum card holder with Carnival and have sailed on the Destiny in the past. Here are some pros & cons of the make-over. Pros - Sports Deck (waterslides and kid's fun area) and serenity decks. Cons are: old lounge area for the Punchliner was converted into rooms, forcing lots of people into the smaller Limelight lounge, narrow passageways near Guy's Burger Joint and Blue Iguana Cantina, and removal of passageway on Deck 5 that bypassed the casino. Some other problems were people smoking on their balconies, standing water on our balcony, too much smoke in the casino and on deck 5. Several cruises I have been on have casino hours for non-smokers. But the ventilation system is inadequate for the amount of smokers in the casino. I also noticed quite a bit of corrosion/rust at the aft exterior of the ship. Read Less

I have sailed on 3 other Carnival cruises in the past but this time I was traveling with my adult children and my husband. Overall the ship is very clean and well maintained, but be prepared to be herded on. Several years ago, Carnival decided to add a water park to the ship as well as approximately 150 more rooms. The water park probably looked liked a great idea on paper but the reality is that is not used very often, so the 1 and only main pool is super full. We spent most of our time on the boat just trying to find a chair to seat in. The buffet area was the same, 20-30 minutes of your time is spent just trying to locate a table. The food at the buffet was always lukewarm and not a lot of choices, by the time you got back to your table the food would be cold. In addition, the buffet area was very small in comparison to the crowds, approximately 2700 passengers. My family spent a lot of time in lines for pizza, sandwiches, drinks, going up or down stairs, using the elevator or just trying to visit the ports of call. While the employees did their very best to manage the crowds they looked lost and overwhelmed and down right tired. Our cabins were very nice and were great full we had paid for the balcony rooms. The ship had lots of onboard activities but they were usually crowded. I will continue to cruise with Carnival but just not on this ship, just too full. Read Less

This was our first time on the Oasis, and it was amazing! We have cruised multiple times with Royal, but this ship is just simply stunning. From watching the finches in Central Park to eating hot dogs on the Boardwalk to seeing Cats, we were in awe at every turn. Our Junior Suite was more than comfortable for four people and our cabin steward took care of everything we could have ever needed. The wait staff and food in the dining room was terrific and the casino and bar staff made sure we had a great time. The teen club was a "home away from home" for my 16 year old stepson, but my 13 year old daughter did not have a very positive experience. It was not a deal breaker, but it was a bit of a disappointment. Overall, though, I cannot say enough about this great trip! We will be booking another one soon! Read Less

15 years ago my wife and I took a cruise on Royal, we have told SOOO many people about it. The people, the food, the feeling of royalty. This Cruise did not stack up but only because Royal its self has put money over the experience. The staff was great, the boat was great, what they have done to there port at Hati, and what they have done to there dinners should be criminal, If you want to enjoy good food, pull out your wallet, it going to cost you upwards of 50.00 more per head per night, otherwise get ready to eat lunch room quality food in the main dinning hall. There were 12 people in my party, and after paying almost 18,000.00 between all of us to get on the ship you can imagine we passed on the additional 600.00 a night to be able to eat food of any quality. (7,200.00 more). None of that of course includes the shore excursions we went on but those were all well worth the cost and we had no issue paying for them. Hati however .... what a joke, what was once a paradise is not a segregated beach, biased by how much money you spend as to weather you can actually go enjoy the beach its self. If you do not pay more you will be set in about 100'x40' of water with the rest of the passengers while the rest of the peninsula is only accessible if you have a special pass. Read Less

Our family traveled on the cruise over the Thanksgiving Holiday. We had 6 in our suite, including our parents, my husband and I and our 13 year old and 7 year old. There was something for all of us to do! They manage the mass amount of people very well! Our room attendant took great care to keep our room clean. The restaurant and bar service was excellent. The entire ship was extremely clean. Our children each enjoyed the activities that were in their age group, but they both did not spend much time there as we were able to do so many activities together. The entertainment and shows were amazing! We were pleasantly surprised how wonderful it all was. This was our first cruise that we stayed in the suite and it was well worth every penny! The suite lounge and Costal kitchen staff, drinks and food made this trip above the top! They treated us and our children so well. We also purchased the beverage packages, but really did not have too as the drinks at happy hour were more then enough for us, none of us are big drinkers, but do enjoy our drinks. Read Less

Ala in all we a a great time, but the ship, the balcony cabin we had was nice, and had a lot of storage area. The food and service was a BIG disappointment compared to other cruises I've been on. Long waits (up to an hour and a half to get your food once crdered, and the food was not good at all. I did not finish a single meal. And don't get me started on the bread. Any of the bread served, from bus to table bread was old and stale, it just crumbled under a butter knife. Tendering to the islands needs fixed. They only had 3 tenders, and the process to get of the ship had to be booked. I only have a few hours on Grand Cayman due to this. Outside of the poor food, service and processes to get off at the ports, we did have a great time. We met many wonderful people onboard. The shows that we were able to get tickets for were great, and they played a lot of fun games at various times of the day. The ports of call are OK, eastern Carrie Ian is nickers, but the private island was surprisingly nice. Food and beverages are all included while on the island. The only drawback was getting on and off the ship, heard again, have 3 tenders for 4100 people is no where near enough. The off and on boarding was terrible. Read Less

We have cruised with another line mostly and decided to give Norwegian a try for the first time. We are in our early 40's with no children. Embarkation was the craziest we have ever seen before. We parked at a shuttle lot and sat on the shuttle for 45 minutes due to a back log of traffic. Then we waited in the terminal in line for another 2 hours. This was the worst process I have seen and it really needs to be fixed. Ship has nice decor and it is easy to maneuver around. Had a balcony cabin. Loved the sliding balcony door as there were no slamming noises like we were used to on other cruises. Our room steward was great. The design is a bit tight for two people to walk around in, but loved all the hidden storage. The separate shower and toilet areas worked well for us. Balcony is large and loungers instead of chairs would have been better. Since we had the free beverage package it was easy to get drinks, when we could get a bartender. We felt most bars were under staffed and overwhelmed. I stuck with wine as I found most of the mixed drinks really odd tasting. Enjoyed the ice bar one night and felt the drinks were nice and strong. Dining had its ups and downs. I was very disappointed that all the speciality restaurants were booked by the time we boarded. They should really set aside slots for walk up's each day. I thought "Freestyle" cruising meant no planning??!! Since that was the case we either ate at the buffet or O'Sheehans for dinner daily. Loved the wings, burgers, salads etc that we had there. The buffet had lots to choose from daily and loved the fresh salads. Was disappointed that our Thanksgiving reservation at the Manahattan room didn't happen for us. We reserved 6:30. Got in line by 6:15 and waited till 7pm and people with 6pm reservations were still not seated. So we left and had burgers at the pub instead. Disappointed room service has a fee when it is free on other cruise lines. Noodle bar was very good. Only got in once due to the limited time and availability. Entertainment was great. Loved the Cirque show, but there needs to be another meal choice besides the beef and shrimp or a veggie dish. How about a chicken one to choose from? Meal itself was ok. I loved the Burn the Floor and Priscilla Queen of the Desert show. Howl at the Moon was ok, but we have had a better experience with this elsewhere. Comedians were funny. The Spice H20 was a good place to hang out as long as we could sit on the nonsmoking side, with my allergy I could not go on the side with the bar for more than a minute. We found the casino layout odd but smoke there did not bother me. Glow party was fun the one night also. Bowling was fun and proved difficult on a moving ship. What made the whole trip on the ship for us was the Thermal spa passes. Spending time in the spa daily made my trip. The bubble pools and saunas are wonderful and the environment is relaxing. Heated stone loungers and balcony chairs made this place heaven after a long day. Fitness center is huge with tons of cardio machines, impressive. We did the Passion Island tour in Cozumel. This was a nice island and beach, but was I tired of being asked if I wanted a drink every 10 minutes even though they were included. Lunch buffet was ok. Skip the souvenirs here and get them in town. Vendors in town are pushy, but will work with you on price. In Jamaica we did the Chukka River tubing. This was a ton of fun! The roads to get there are a little rough and steep, but our driver was careful. It was raining but we still had fun. The river is a bit cold at first but the rainforest scenery makes up for it. There are some mild rapids in spots but the tour guides stay with the group. Several of us broke off and were way ahead of everyone for a while and it was so peaceful. The jerk chicken at the end is very good and worth a try. We had time for shopping near port after. We bought a beautiful paining from a very nice man. We enjoyed this port more than we thought we would. We did Grand Cayman on our own and had wished we did not by the time we were done. Traffic in Grand Cayman is crazy with 4 ships here. We took a public bus to the Dolphin place across from the turtle farm to swim with dolphins. The bus had a low almost flat tire and the driver had to stop for air. Traffic was so bad we almost did not make our time. We got there and it was like a cattle call. People all in groups into the tanks. The experience was ok, but by the end I felt really bad for the dolphin who did not want to perform anymore and they needed to call another one in from another holding pen. I never want to do that again. Turtle farm was ok, we were disappointed that they stop the snorkeling by a certain time or we would have planned our day better. Got back into town and went to Margaritaville for food. Service was slow but food good. **WARNING** If you are new to NCL, when you board the ship the first day go to your tv and go to the entertainment section to book your tender ticket(s). This was all new to us as on other lines you don't need to do this. We made ourselves board the tender with another letter since we had "L" but had to be at the dolphin place by 1:30. Had we waited we would have never made it. They never checked or asked our letter, but I would have liked to know about this process ahead of time. Great Stirrup Cay is really nice, but the tender here is a disaster. Too many people, takes too long. Again, we had letter "M" but boarded with D as it would have taken all day. Beach is nice with good snorkeling. Lunch was impressive and very good. Shopping here not so good. Crappy shirts and stuff. Debarkation was ok. We did self assist since we live in FL. Waited a while but easier than looking for our luggage in all the piles. Will we do a NCL cruise again? I am not sure. I prefer the mid sized ships, but loved the spa services available with the pass. Overall we had fun, but we are not sold on strictly cruising with NCL. Read Less

Our room had a smell from plumbing. The rooms were nicely decorated but we're generally old and needed refreshing. Food was mixed. Some was great and some inedible (prime rib, for example). Wait staff was great but overworked. Coffee was low quality but due to overworked status of the wait staff, it was not offered at dinner anyway. There were way too many kids on the ship. Good entertainment but some parents took babies to shows that were very loud. The babies were holding their ears. Carnival might do well to put a warning to parents who are too stupid to protect the children on their own. No doubt these children will have hearing loss as adults. Better yet, prohibit children under a certain age from attending loud performances. It was very sad to see a child of 18 months or so holding her ears due to the loud decibel level. We went with friends and they were upgraded but we were not offered the same. This felt arbitrary. We thought that upgrading 3 cabins and not upgrading the 4th member of the group reflected carelessness on the part of Carnival for not offering the same to us. Overall, a poor experience for us. We got the impression that Carnival (the company) didn't care about us. Would not recommend it. Read Less

Also I had a blister, so went to get a bandaid in the medical room, 50 cents for a bandaid!! WHAT???? Was not too impressed with the room attendant either. My room never felt clean, the beds where a mess when they were made. This was the first cruise i was not happy with my room cleanliness . Too many people to accommodate in the buffet , not enough tables for the amount of guests. The SPA staff was very nice and professional. The staff on the ship were hard working and kind. Central park was amazing we felt like we were on land. The plants were real!!! It was a great place to sit and quietly read play cards or do whatever. There were even birds on board! I also like that we had a variety of places to eat. Oh! the inside rooms even had a couch and fridge that is how large the rooms are! The entire ship is clean and smelled great even though there is a designated area for smokers in the Casino. Put on your walking shoes because this ship is HUGE! We had a fantastic time. We were able to get on and off this ship effortlessly and they provided coffee and donuts for those who did not want to go to the Windjammer the morning we debarked. Bon voyage!!!!! Read Less

We will cruise again with Royal but not on the Super Big Ships going back to freedom class but not anytime soon on Royal. The cruise staff just did not have the pep and enthusiasm were usually see on Royal. We had to get our on drinks most of the times A lot of the bar staff were rude, had almost no pool deck or casino bar staff worked out great for the ship if you had a drink package because spent a lot of time just not getting drinks. Had issues in casino with slots not working correctly staff came and reset machines but said they were not working properly but we could continue playing but they couldn't give us our voucher that we started with wasn't there fault the machine wasn't working properly, but left the machines in service saw this several times was told it happens a lot after restart on port days. The food was fair not as good as other Carnival cruises. I am a platinum member and this is the first time that I was really disappointed with a ship. The lounge chairs are not that clean I ended up getting impetigo from somewhere on the cruise so beware(my husband said he saw numerous people with the same rash on the pool. Not worth the money. Next year Royal Caribbean for me. If you want impetigo and terrible entertainment this is the cruise for you. Boring, boring, boring. I traveled with 2 other couples and they feel the same way in fact one is sick with a cold from the cruise, really needs to be cleaned. The best I can say is our cabin steward to a great job. We sailed on the Oasis's first trip out of Port Canaveral, We got a good deal on a Balcony, Went with another couple had a great time. The main complaint We had were that the PRICES HAVE GONE UP. Prices for drinks have skyrocketed you are now forced to buy a package if you have more than a couple drinks a day. Prices of dining in the restaurants have skyrocketed too, Giovanis in October 25 dollars a person In November 45 a person. I didn't even think about paying extra for food. The dining room's food and the service was to good and included. The waitstaff in Dining Room were great we had music and a show 3 nights, We really had a great time. I hope Royal Caribbean really rethinks these price increases, they were crazy high. We did enjoy a la carte in Izumi, Wakame Salad and Sushi was about 25 dollars a person when all was said and done. .I bit high but good. On another note. We were one day short of Diamond member status when we boarded and you have to finish the 8 day cruise and book another one before you can enjoy the benefits. Read Less

The service no matter where you go on the ship is extraordinary and the ship is very well maintained. We paid thousands for this trip but it seemed like they always wanted more money whether it be for the restaurants or excursions and what not. I did not like having to pay extra for good food. Food is important to me. The main dining room's food was just above TV Dinner quality. Yes, I ate but I was expecting way better. It wasn't easy to go explore the destinations on our own. We were very pressured to book the RC excursions. Not a true island feel- very touristy/manufactured. Out of all the shows, everyone seemed to agree that the ice skating show and the trapeze type show were the best. Our cabin was an ocean view balcony and it was excellent. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it was the first for the Oasis out of Port Canaveral. We only left the ship once briefly in Costa Maya. The balance of the cruise we spent exploring the ship and enjoying the various areas of the ship. We were very impressed by the Central Park area and enjoyed music under the stars one evening. Embarkation actually went more smoothly than we anticipated, knowing it was a first. Disembarkation went very smoothly and the entire process didn't take thirty minutes for us once our number was called. The food in the dining room was wonderful and the service was excellent. We attended most all of the shows and found them to be excellent. The one word of advice I would give is if you go to the "Come Fly With Me" show, do not sit under the balcony. If you do, you'll miss a good part of the show. Our cabin was clean and well appointed but I do believe there is less storage space than we had in a comparable cabin on the Freedom of the Seas. The closet was smaller and there are fewer drawers. Our cabin steward helped us with some special requests and was always there to help. I missed visiting Grand Cayman on the Western Caribbean sailing as it's one of my favorites. We booked next year's cruise to the Eastern Caribbean the second or third day of this cruise. We will definitely cruise Royal Caribbean again and would highly recommend it to anyone. Read Less

The best thing...we never once had to walk through the casino, nor had to go up a level or down a level to avoid it. It was out of sight and out of the way. LOVELY! To be honest the island stops weren't anything spectacular but on such a nice ship, it mattered little to us. My husband and son lived on the FLowrider most of the time. It was the best part of the ship for them. The Voom internet stopped working for me the last 3 days of the cruise. Don't know why, others in our group were able to log on but I wasn't. Schedule, 8 days was attractive, we like Port Canaveral, had never sailed on Oasis. Not likely to sail Oasis again. Just too big, common areas like the restaurants and bars are windowless, it felt like a windowless barge . We have had excellent experiences on all the other ships. This crew seemed inexperienced. Costa Maya was a lovely surprise, very friendly, and not all touristy commercial. Did not miss Diamonds International there at all! Beautiful relaxing beach day in paradise. Arranged our own tour at Falmouth. We like. Ocho Rios much better. Cozumel is always great. Love the shops on the square, Always a great meal in Cozumel. Dinner at Chops s always a treat, has been excellent on every ship. The other "specialty restaurants" were just not that special overall. The hibachi experience at Izumi was great fun , would go there again. Sabor was NOT the elegant experience we had on Freedom, that's for sure. But the food was excellent. I love Royal Caribbean, I just did not care for the Oasis. My favorites are the Radiance class ships for ease of moving about, the views from anywhere you sit , the feeling that you are on a ship. The artworks on the Oasis were amazing, some of my favorite ever on any of the ships! Read Less

Let's get this out of the way first. This is a huge ship and can hold 5000+ passengers. With that being said, there should be some expectations that during the very first and last days of the cruise, one may have to wait for an elevator longer than normal as folks bring up/down their bags. The venues on board for some of their shows cannot hold all the people that may want to see them, so reservations are required. Casinos are smoky and crowded but all of the above should be expected and not deliver an unfavorable rating. Shows were 1st rate. I didn't see CATS but most of what I heard from the folks that did go see it was less than favorable. Too long, too boring but the rest of the entertainment I did see 1st hand and were fabulous. Dining options are plentiful (as one would expected on a ship this large) but I do have a point of issue with Chops. While the food was great, the $42/person fee while not too expensive didn't include some of the dry aged steaks. All would've been fine, but the main dining room had the Chops dry aged NY Strip for $19. Why would somebody pay $42 for entrance to Chops as well as the $19 up charge when they could've ordered it from the dining room and save themselves the $42 entrance fee? Breakfast at the Windjammer got very predictable by the 4th day, although the lunch options were better. Staff was 1st class all the way. My son threw up in the middle of the night (after 01:00) and the staff were there to virtually replace the entire bedding ensemble by 02:30. Mother in law got sick and was able to get medicine on board to salvage some of the trip. Boarding and off-boarding went very smoothly. From the time we gathered at our meeting point to get off the ship until the time I was in my car driving off was about 20 minutes. Check in was also very smooth, although the gate agent did forget to swipe my son's passport causing a slight delay with entering the ship, but nothing too severe and nothing that I had to do to rectify. I could honestly do without the Falmouth port. Rest of the ports were fine, although the weather didn't cooperate at Labidee. Getting on/off the ship at all ports was easy and very smoothly done. Son didn't take as much advantage of the Aquanots area as I would've liked it but for the time he did spend there, he enjoyed it and it allowed my wife and I to enjoy our vacation a bit more knowing that our son was in good hands, entertained and fed (lunch and dinner during port days) Read Less

The crew is trying harder than ever to make you feel special. The casino staff, bar staff, and pool staff are super friendly. They really get to know you and are very helpful. My only complaints are the low quality of food in the dining room, and why isn't the ice cream machine open 24 hours a day. Soft serve ice cream for 4 hours per day on a ship with 6,000 people is not cool. The ice show is amazing. Cats was so weird that we couldn't make it through the first 30 minutes. Our balcony was very nice, and we had plenty of privacy. One word of warning, if you try during an off time, be prepared to be bombarded by very rude old people. Read Less

Oasis of the Seas is a beautiful ship, but lacks in the personal experience we are use to with other cruise lines....there is no room on the pool deck for the performers to interact with the guests (they are on a small platform that you can barely see them from any pool, let alone able to dance), the towels offered for pool use were so thin it was certainly not what we were accustomed to, Dazzle had the best performance and provided plenty of dance music, but was way to little and very hot for all of the guests to enjoy (they need a much bigger place because they were full every performance!! We asked crew members on many occasions how to find a particular part of ship and over 50% could not help us. Everything is so spread out and you have to look for something to do. The photos were not very professional at all (poses not good, actual print quality were to bright, to dark, colors were not true, etc..) we bought some but only because we wanted memories, staff needs classes on photography... we might would sail with Royal Caribbean again, but not on this ship. A family member (Royal Caribbean Diamond Plus ) invited us to go along with them. We had a deal with RCI that we used. The ship's staff was very good, but there were simply too many people aboard. Entertainment was excellent. We were disappointed with the bingo games. Allowing the use of the computers was not fair to the people who just wanted a chance to win with the 'old fashioned' cards - 33 cards versus 6 was too much advantage. Food and food service was good although dining room was too crowded and we our table usually was not in a good place. We were disappointed with the transfer service to/from the Sanford airport. Stateroom attendant (Erica) was excellent and deserves an 'Atta Gal' for her efforts. She was efficient, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. We would rate the overall cruise as 'above average' compared with others that we have been on. Read Less
