My daughter asked her Papa and I to join her and our three grandchildren on the kid's first cruise. My husband and I have sailed on 18 cruises...Alaska, Hawaii, South America, and every cruise to the Carribean. We took one cruise on a ship out of Puertio Rico doing two back-to-back 14 day cruises. One whole month in Paradise. We love cruising. We had grown up watching Walt on nine inch tvs. How we loved Walt and the Mickey Mouse Club.. When our girls were growing up we took them to Disneyland. We took them to Disney World. We flew our daughters, their spouses, and our six grandchildren for 7 days at Disney's New Orleans resort and Disney World park. I never expected Walt to ever disappoint us. Yet, he did. I would never take this cruise line again. We left Cape Canaveral and our first day out I felt concern. We diverted to Miami after a gentleman took a serious fall down the main marble stairway. Critically hurt, when I saw a rescue boat arrive beside the boat to remove him from the ship, I realized that there was no helioport onboard. On two cruises, we saw people choppered out after serious health conditions. After a career in medicine, I could not help but think of that critical hour window of time which happens with critical medical conditions. The trip was great...really great for young children. Our grandchildren, aged 9, 12, and 15 enjoyed their first cruise. Yet, they spent most of the time at our side. They tried the children activities the first day, but did not like the activities. So they played miniture golf and used the amazing water slide a lot. The food onboard was inferior to the ships we have cruised on. It came to the table cool..not hot. Three nights I did not see a dessert on the menu that I liked. Our wait staff was excellent and I loved the beautiful .three diningrooms where our staff accompanied us to a different one each night. The maitre-D was accommodating We had a seventh floor balcony room. The greatest room ever. I loved the bathrooms! One with a sink commode...one with a sink and tub shower! It had the most storage on any ship of the ships we sailed. It had a full couch and constant reception in the rooms for news and sports. Very family oriented! Our room attendant, Scotty was excellent. I do not get a lot of time with my daughter and her family She lives in Minnesota and is a licensed nurse practitioner at Mayo Hospital. A job extremely demanding. We live in Iilinois. The first at-sea day was extremely disappointing. We were up early and got chaises in a family area near a small pool. We had two or three hours and went to lunch---we were gone thirty to forty minutes ! We left our towels on chairs. We came back and our towels were removed. Other people as taken our chaises. I asked the deck attendant! Oh, that is our policy..a book, a bag, was laid aside on the floor. THAT HAS NEVER HAPPENED ON ANY CRUISE SHIP I HAVE SAILED ON#!!!! We could not find anywhere to sit. We went to our cabins!!! The medical physician and nurses were excellent! I had got onboard for the trip on prednisone due to problems due to suffering with systemic lupus and a rash I developed!!! However I had finished my meds. I took a cold, had a rash, and high temp.. I was given more prednisone. I spent 24 hour in my room. At Castaway Key...the last day on the ship my family and nearly everyone else went ashore! I returned to the top deck where we were the day our chairs were taken. I read. I napped. It was early. Shortly about 11 a.m. the deck attendant came and started stacking all the chaises. I asked him why? Well,he told me they had to to get ready for the new vacationers getting aboard the next day. I told him this was my cruise and he brushed me off. . He wanted to ad my chases to the stack. I gathered my things. I went to Guest Relations and nicely told the receptionist that I had paid for that last day. She just brushed me off. I told her I had no doubt their ship would always be filled. They would have repeat cruisers. But having talked to other fellow cruisers....ones who have cruised on Celebrity, Holland America, Princess, Norwegian...they also in the past week had told me they would, like us, never cruise Disney again. All other cruise lines treat you with respect. On Celebrity..you are one! There were never attendants from the bar walking around to ask if you would like a drink! In smoking areas....ashtrays run over....you are invisible. No, WALT DISNEY' let us down. How we never expected that.. Read Less

From a young kids point of view 9 out of 10 points. From adults point of view the food in the cafeteria was fine to good but the 3 main restaurants locations was poor. The worst I have had on 5 different cruise lines. Nothing is cooked to order for any meal and most of the food arrives cold, they then microwave it for you, reluctantly. However, if you pay extra to eat in their 2 special restaurants, it is excellent. The cabins are also smaller than normal. We paid extra for a balcony with an unrestricted view and it was smaller than any cabin we have had on 7 cruises. If you go for the kids, I recommend it but remember you are only going for them and Disney will pick your pocket all day and for the food is still very poor. As much as my grandson enjoyed it, we will never sail Disney again Read Less

We chose the Disney Dream because so many people had raved about the experience. Let me say that the customer service was exceptional from embarkation to debarkation. The cleanliness of the room and the cabin steward were excellent as well. The food was ok in the dining rooms. I actually enjoyed the buffets better than the selections and quality found in the main dining rooms. Because I am not the biggest Disney Fan, and my daughter is simply a "fun" fan, we were not overjoyed with all things disney on this ship. There opportunities to take lots of pictures with all of the characters from Disney. My daughter simply wanted to swim in the pool and on the beach.....and thats exactly what she did. The kids program was also phenomenal. Overall, I think the cruise was fun! We truly enjoyed ourselves. I do think that there are other cruise lines that provide a more "whole family" enjoyable experience. I would go again! Read Less

This is our third Disney cruise, we have sailed the Fantasy twice and this was our first time on the Magic. We are a family of 5 l; my husband and I mid-thirties with children aged 5, 3 and 18 mos. We traveled with two other families who had children ranging in ages from 16 to 9. We were a table of 14 for dinner. My review will be based only on my perspective. Overall it was an ok cruise but for the cost it should have been better than ok. In fact, for our third Disney cruise it was, notably, by far the worst of the three. The short story - pros: *We were in group 2 and on the boat by 11:15 *Boat was spotless *Home for 4 days and no one caught anything from the boat (yay) *kids loved the camp *baby loved the nursery - staff was outstanding *Room was clean and nice *Room service was quick *Whiskey tasting was outstanding Cons: *Some kind of "technology" issue kept us standing outside of the port for about an hour *Castaway Cay was a total train wreck; I really feel Disney put us in actual danger *Service in the main dining room was poor *Food in main dining was poor *Coffee is the worst coffee I have ever had (still) *The ship shits down at like 11pm, midnight the latest - no food options except room service and literally nothing to do *Food at Palo wasn't as good as I have had before The details of the trip: We should have known we were in for it when our trip larger started on the curb at Port Canaveral. Some Disney employee did tell us we were outside because of some technology miscommunication so we stood there for a good 45 Min in the heat; it was kind of a mess getting in. That said, we are Castaway club Silver and the line for that was quick so once we got our key to the world card, we had time to get camp wristbands and then board. The ship was, as always, spotless and grand. Greeted by name and cheered for by crew. Unlike the past 2 trips, however, no one escorted us to the elevator or anything. It was fine, however, as it truly was not busy. We got a table to seat all 14 of us although the buffet didn't open until 11:45 sbut it was fine. Food was ok; less options than I remember especially for the kids but fine. We then went to our rooms as the Navigator said they would be ready at 1:30 but they were a good 15 min late so we sat in the crowded hallway waiting but again no big deal. Seriously tho, Disney, don't print 1:30 if you need till 1:45. Say 2pm and look like a hero at 1:45. Whatever I digress. The biggest issue of the trip was Castaway Cay which was our last day but such a big deal I will jump there next. I ran the free 5K and I have before so nothing changed there. Got off the boat, no one checked our IDs tho we needed them to get our bibs at check in. The race is more fun and not chip trimmed but they give you a bib as a souvenir and a "medal" that's made of rubbery plastic at the end. It's fun. There was an overcast which was great for running as it was breezy. Our family had a cabana and I asked a Disney employee "is there a storm coming" they said "no, the captain radioed the island, should blow past us". Ok so great. I laid around waiting for the rest of my family. They showed up about 20 min later and the host for the Cabana came, Lindsey. The sky looked way worse. I said "should we leave?" He said basically the same thing, storm should blow out to sea, hopefully miss us but if it does drizzle stay in the cabana, it's safest covered. Well we had TORRENTIAL rain with literally 50 MPH wind gusts. All 14 of us were totally stranded for almost three hours in our cabana. No food, no real shelter, freezing as we used all the dry towels and got soaked. It was awful. Lightening less than 100 yards away from us. All of the kids were terrified - the adults too! Shame on you Disney. I get no one can control the weather and you don't want people to miss out, but someone HAD to have seen this three hour monsoon on a radar - how you can encourage guests to remain out in weather like that is beyond me. Absolutely awful. We didn't have to pay for the cabana but still - the risk was terrible. The food was not as good as on other Disney sailing; my steak was overlooked on two different nights with two different preparations and they forgot to serve at least one person at our table. They only do Crush at the Animators Palate and not the animated drawings which was a let down as we only ate there once. The coffee is terrible. I think this is a known issue with Disney but still - fix it! They don't do enough chocolate desserts and the menu on Pirate night is the WORST! It's all spicy and seafood - I really struggle with that menu but that is true of all Disney pirate nights I have attended so far. We did have brunch at Palo. This was our third time and the only time didn't have calzone on the menu this time or the filet minion! Food was OK. I had the veal that was loaded with mushrooms that were hidden underneath which wasn't pleasant to me, but for some this could be a bonus. The chicken parm was good as were the desserts but the buffet sections were wierd. They had Nutella breadsticks and the next table had shrimp and prosciutto - just odd. It was worth the $30 but I was let down because I have had better at Palo! Camps were always a crowd pleaser for my kids and every time I called the nursery to check on my baby they were sweet and happy to check on him for me and gave me a full report. They never called me to take him for any issue and when I did check on him by stopping by and looking through the one way mirror - he was always happy and playing with an adult. They were always very professional and kind, excellent employees! We didn't get off in Nassau but those who did said it was nice. I did use the gym to run on the treadmill and that was very nice and clean and not too busy. They added a hot tub to the concierge sun deck; we were not Conceirge but one family who was with us was and that was a nice add - hope the do same with the Fantasy soon! We waited a long time for the Aquaduck but that's to be expected. 45 min with my kid was actually fun time for us to talk and giggle so it went quickly. I don't know why the soft serve ice cream and pizza stands close - I know other cruise companies serve this 24 hours. It's not a big deal for us but once in a while you kind of want a late night snack and the kids are asleep so room service isn't the best option. This never bothered me before but with the lousy dinner service it really stuck out to me on this trip. Disembarkation was a breeze; breakfast at our assigned table with our family before we lesurley walked off was great. I did fee relaxed on our drive home so it was overall an OK trip but having sailed Disney before I really was dissapointed with this trip. Read Less

This was a trip of a life-time. The first for most of my expended family. My young family loved our 4 day cruise on Disney Wonder in 2015. It was magical. So we got adjoining staterooms for my parents and my sister and her young family and paid for a 7 night cruise. We've never had a holiday together like this before and I was so thrilled to introduce them to cruising and with Disney I figured it was a sure-bet. I couldn't believe it when we got lacklustre friendly service and thinly disguised forced smiles from several Disney staff. The universal can-do attitude simply wasn't there. Our all-inclusive experience was dampened by immediately with up-selling that started with water for our staterooms (REALLY?!) as soon as we arrived and continued throughout the cruise. It was a sign of a different Disney experience to come. Our dining experience was spent waiting for water and wine. More than once we had to choose between having wine with a cold dinner or having a hot meal with no wine. The safety regulations for height checking the kids on slides was ridiculous, our little ones (after 10 minutes) were finally let on but others were not. A no is a no and I always appreciate anyone trying to keep kids safe but children were clearly tall enough and staff would call their supervisors to try to force a card between the top of their heads and the measuring stand...making everyone else in line wait for the supervisor to arrive and go through the same ordeal. One child who'd been riding all week but had taken his band off had to go through this circus again (while we waited) only to be refused! I was really looking forward to the pirate party and dance but after the show (not as good as the Wonder show) they just shut down. We were all left standing on deck with no music wondering what to do with ourselves. Such a party downer. I will say that the rest of the entertainment on board was excellent!!!! Sadly, the spoiled cherry on top of our not-so-great cruise was the announcement that the ship had malfunctions and wouldn't be making it to our beach destination of Castaway Cay...we'd told all the kids about this amazing island and were so looking forward to beach fun with the grandparents and all the grandkids....really disappointed in Disney. There was little at all done to compensate us, we were offered $200 onboard spending and a 10% additional discount in future cruises...but the $200 onboard spending we would have gotten on the future cruise then wouldn't apply...so really they were offering nothing but a push to sell another cruise! After raving to my family about Disney's excellent standard of service a Disney staff member lied to my sister, father and I on our second last day! I was shocked! He later apologized to us - I think was concerned he might lose his job. The shift in staff mentality overall made me wonder if Disney is caring for their staff properly or paying them adequately. We spent so much money and may never have another family vacation all together again. I grew up on Disney and absolutely LOVE Disney. But I simply can't honestly recommend a Disney Fantasy cruise to anyone. So disappointed. :( Read Less

My husband and I both agree the Ship is beautiful the cast members very friendly and helpful. Getting on and off the ship very organized. our main disappointed was in the quality and quantity of our meals. The salad bar consisted of iceberg lettuce croutons and sliced tomatoes. We practically had to beg for walnuts and raisins to add to our oatmeal, they have cast members to serve you at the buffet and they would use a teaspoon to add your toppings we had to ask for more several times which was very frustrating. I have a gluten allergy and was told numerous times that I could order anything on the menu and they would make it for me, nice right, wrong. I ordered a waffle and hash browns on the second day and they brought me a frozen toaster waffle, I couldn't have the potatoes because they prepare them off the ship, what? My husband ordered French Toast it was so small he ate it in 4 bites. If that wasn't bad enough they serve you your syrup, if you are like me I like to add syrup as I eat I don't want my breakfast floating in syrup but not having enough is also a pain. I am an adult I can't have my own syrup on the table? Going to dinner is very important to us and we found the Disney dinning did not even come close to our experience on other cruise lines. Most of my meals very bland and once again when I tried to order something not on GF menu which the staff continuously encouraged I was told it was prepared before being brought to the ship. I am used to having limited options don't offer what you can't deliver. Read Less

Just an average cruise and not any better than our three previous carnival cruises. The extra money you pay to take a Disney cruise is for the included soft drinks and some Disney characters throughout the ship. We spent mothers day (the day before our cruise) at magic kingdom and saw most of the princesses and characters there. If you intend on taking this cruise to see princesses then as soon as you embark the ship make a b-line to guess services to get a ticket to see them. They're only available from 11am to 2pm on the 1st day. We missed out on getting tickets and went to guess services around 3:30 the 1st day and the girl at the desk told us they were out. We didn't worry about it since we were at magic kingdom the previous day and after seeing what the princesses looked like in the ship. We thought they looked more like the real thing at the park. We enjoyed the Disney shows at the theater 6pm or 8pm. So make sure you go. The food - what I heard everyone that I know that took a Disney cruise is that it was awesome. So my expectations we high and we were very disappointed with the food and the quality. I had steak that was so chewy I felt I was eating rubber. The family next to us complained about the food to the dining room manager the 1st night and for the remainder of the cruise they tried to accommodate them at dinner and gave them a free wine bottle. So complaint the 1st night you're there :) Read Less

We are Castaways Club members and, as such, have been on several Disney Cruises. In fact, we will not cruise on any other cruise line. Having said that, our recent cruise on the Disney Magic was disappointing. The ship is in dire need of a big makeover, especially in the adults only pool area. The pool area has a lot of rust and surface dirt and the only food available is if you walk to the family or I kiddie pool areas. Not real convenient or relaxing. The AC in our cabin was terrible and although we complained several times, it was never fixed. Also, we noticed several bugs (either cockroaches or palmetto bugs) just inside of 2 of the restaurants. When we told a crew/cast member, they just smiled, shrugged their shoulders and walked away. That was the same response we got each time. And no....they didn't walk away to get someone to take care of it. The food was ok, but not up to the Disney quality standard we are used to. I'm writing this review because I know how important the 4 Keys are to Disney. Although we had no problems with the crew/cast members being courteous, the rust, dirt, lack if proper maintenance and bugs definitely don't measure up to Safety, Efficiency and SHOW! Will cruise again with Disney, but, definitely not on this vessel. Read Less

Gorgeous ship! Outstanding service! Fantastic kids' program, gorgeous private island, and unbelievable shows! Hard to complain, isn't it?? I feel, somehow, dirty, complaining about Disney......but, the food was terrible!!! Worst, I have ever had of the 4 other cruise lines we've traveled on. I took my daughter and her two sons, and the kids absolutely loved it! Their favorite part was the water slides.....all 3 of them. We felt the food was so bad that we'll probably not do another cruise by Disney. With the $$$$ the charge, and Disney's reputation to uphold, I don't know how their could serve such substandard fare. We also were a little disappointed with the crowd control boarding and disembarking the ship and the small size of all the pools; but we could have overlooked these if the food had been at the very least - decent! I'm so sorry to report this. Read Less

Our very 1st cruise was the Disney Magic in October,1998. We had a incredibly beautiful balcony stateroom. The food was excellent and the entertainment was phenomenal! It was our 2nd year anniversary. Since then we have cruised to Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Hawaii, Alaska and several Caribbean cruises. We were looking forward to again cruising with Disney, so using the Florida Resident rate, which still is expensive, and since we're both retired, we came up with the money. The ship is still beautiful, but it goes downhill from there. You are told you will receive a call from your favorite Disney character before the cruise. My husband loves Goofy. Never happened. Also, he stood in line twice just to take a picture with Goofy. As soon as he and others waiting in line got close to Goofy, he was replaced by another character. The entertainment was based on ghosts and pirates, neither of which are appropriate themes for anyone, especially children. I have always respected Disney, but thought they wasted the perfect enrichment accessibility for children who are dealing with bullying, parents' splitting up and other important issues. There's not even a library on board. The culinary chefs could learn alot from Carnival. We thought we would be going to Epcot on the water....not even close. The waste was unimaginable. The best thing Disney has is their cast members. Needless to say, that is my last Disney cruise. Read Less

Was a little disappointed with this cruise, not as great as expected. We were staying at the Beach Club at WDW, so we took the shuttle bus from there to the port. Very easy. We were with our children and two young grandsons. We had adjoining family staterooms with balconies. The rooms were very large and and nicely laid out, they slept five, the bathroom was great, two choices of shower heads and kept very clean. As a frequent cruiser, I felt the food was just okay. The portions seemed small to me, and for the price of this cruise, there was no Lobster night. The activities were mostly for girls. With the exception of Pirate Night. The early show was only 20 minutes, the later show and longer one was at 10:30, why so late?. We really did not go to any of the shows, The ship itself is gorgeous with great detail and a lot of nice lounges for adults, the restaurants were really beautiful. The only time I felt overwhelmed by children, was at the pool. Wall to wall children. But the adult only part of the ship was terrific. We did a day excursion to Atlantis which was great for the kids, they stayed at the beach and hubby and I went to the Casino. Did okay. Castaway Cay was terrific. We had a great day there and the BBQ was really good, Disney should build a hotel on that island. Disembarkation was a little annoying, only because if you had early seating for dinner, you had to have breakfast on the last morning at 6:45AM. Have never been on a cruise with such a requirement. Finding our luggage was very organized and Disney took us to the airport. I probably will not take another Disney cruise, it was not worth the money we paid for it. Read Less

The problem with Disney Cruise Line is that before you book your trip, you stop and ask yourself, "Is it really worth it?" As you know you are basically paying double than other brands so you go into the cruise with high expectations. Sadly, they were not met. The biggest issue was the food. The food was not really good. I thought the food was actually better at the windjammer than at the MDR. Several nights, I left hungry. I think they want to be creative but the meals fall short. But to be fair I did eat at Remys and Palo. The food is incredible at Remys but I am a bit of a picky eater so I didnt like everything there but my dinner partner loved it. Palo was great and I had a nice time there. It was also annoying that the hours of the places were really limited. The windjammer was only open for a short time and the breakfast in the MDR was only open for 1.5 hours in the morning. It wasnt open at night so you could get a quick snack. The pizza, sandwiches, and hamburgers weren't that they great but that stand was open later. I was also disappointed with the kids menu. They actually served corn dogs in the MDR. How is that even healthy, just give a kid a hamburger. I only ate in the MDR twice but the healthy option was a repeat. It was a turkey bolognese but when I ordered it for my daughter the pasta was hard. The shows were great and my daughter loved meeting the characters but we did have to wait in lines. So if you want to see the princesses it is better to show up 30 minutes before or you will be stuck in a really long time. The private island is really great. I really enjoy the adult only section. The boat is pretty empty during that day so it is a great time to enjoy the pool and the aqua deck with crowds and lines.   Read Less

This was my 11th cruise. I took my grandson for his 5th birthday. I have sailed with Princess, NCL, RCCL, Carnival and the defunct Premier cruise line. I expected much more from this cruise. It was Disney!! The food was average at best. The dining room service was upsetting. The first night I asked to change tables. The party sitting with us was obnoxious. I stated my concerns to our waiter and he ignored me. By the last night I didn't even go to the dining room. The children's activities were exceptional except for the character meet n greet. There were times you stood in a long line only to have the character leave before you seen them. The pool areas were very crowded, not enough chairs. The entertainment was everything I expected, amazing shows! I was also impressed with the transportation to and from the airport. In summary: Less than impressive service, less than impressive food, great shows, well run kids program, lack of chairs by the pools, overcrowded, nice cabin. Read Less
