After reading several reviews of the Magic we weren't expecting a lot from our cruise. That turned out to not be the case. We found the staff on the Magic to be great. Food was okay, actually real good at times. Entertainment okay. Our dining wait staff was wonderful. We've always found that the more fun you have with the staff the more fun you'll have in general. Lines for food weren't bad, after all you're sailing with 4,000 of you're best friends. Guys burgers and BBQ were great. Did the Italian restaurant and found it okay. Nothing over the top special. Heard the steakhouse was great. Disappointed in how some people dressed in the dining room. Almost seemed like they were pushing it to see if they wouldn't be seated because of what they were wearing. I'm sure it's tough for the cruise line to push this issue. This was our fourth cruise with Carnival and have done six with Disney. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it included 3 ports that we had never visited before. This was our fourth cruise (3rd with Carnival). We were really looking forward to it, but came away somewhat disappointed. The ship was okay, but didn't have any outstanding features. The food at the Lido buffet was mediocre at best. We've had much better on other ships. Cooked items were often just warm to the touch, even at the start of the dining hours. Although I like iced tea, I found the pre-mixed brand served on board to be un-drinkable. I did like the selection of fresh fruit available at each meal. The tables were serviced well, but the ledge along the dining room windows always had a several-days accumulation of crumbs and food scraps. The cabin housekeeping staff was friendly, efficient and unobtrusive. All of the on-board entertainment we experienced was enjoyable and well-done. We usually book our cruises based on the port itinerary rather than the ship, but it's unlikely we would ever book another vacation on the Magic. Read Less

I thought this being a 7 day cruise it would have good entertainment and it was awful nothing but trivia and comedy and really dumb games very boring entertainment. The food was fair not as good as other Carnival cruises. I am a platinum member and this is the first time that I was really disappointed with a ship. The lounge chairs are not that clean I ended up getting impetigo from somewhere on the cruise so beware(my husband said he saw numerous people with the same rash on the pool. Not worth the money. Next year Royal Caribbean for me. If you want impetigo and terrible entertainment this is the cruise for you. Boring, boring, boring. I traveled with 2 other couples and they feel the same way in fact one is sick with a cold from the cruise, really needs to be cleaned. The best I can say is our cabin steward to a great job. My mom and I chose the Magic in hopes that it would offer more than Carnival cruises out of Tampa (smaller ships that can get under the bridge from the Port of Tampa). We previously cruised on the Carnival Paradise, a ship half the size of the Magic, from Tampa. We were very disappointed, and found that a 7-night cruise on the Magic was more than enough. Specifically, there was no difference in entertainment between the two ships, though we expected more of the newer and larger Magic. It basically consisted of a lot of trivia competitions, the same goofy things like the Hairy Man Competition, and either karaoke or comedy for evening fare. The karaoke machine was surprising for its lack of familiar Karaoke tunes to sing. The major show was completely inappropriate for a family (it was not marked as adult entertainment). In addition, a 9pm Halloween "Meet and Greet," also intended for all ages, allowed two women with sexually explicit costumes. Our seating at the dining room made us feel that the restaurant was very understaffed, as we did not receive our main course until others had begun to leave after completing their dessert. We did not blame the hard-working staff, but rather the cruise ship for a lack of sufficient staffing. All of the crew we met were hard-working and pleasant. Our cabin was fine, and the crew were wonderful, but the activities were below what we hoped for. Destination sites were so-so. A couple we traveled with said that there were young children running and yelling at late hours of every evening, making them wish they were on a senior cruise, as the parents did not rein their kids in. I have now been on three Carnival cruises Read Less

Food was terrible,we ate at the steak house and the food was great but we sat next to some elite passenger who was loud , obnoxious, and drunk and completely ruined our supper, the cruise director thinks he is some kind of reverend and sings every morning you cant understand him he talks too fast, the entertainment team did only one show with dancing, we had a hypnotist who hasn't changed his show in two years , we then had a Chinese juggler who wanted to be a comedian but he couldn't speak English, the comedy club comedians were just ok,the workers on the boat were not friendly they were rude we had to clean our own plates from the table we had a young man who did trivia and rushed through the trivia games so he could talk on his phone, we ate in the dining room and we waited 35 minutes for bread, and had to ask 3 times to get our water glass filled, breakfast was awful you couldn't get a bagel toasted they were raw, lunch was awful the food was mushy and you had to beg to get two pieces of meat at the carving station the best food on the boat is guys burger joint this company needs to get their head out of their a.. and learn how to treat people maybe their CEO should go on under cover boss Read Less

This was our first cruise and we had our two children. It was great! They acknowledged the kids at all times, gave me a break at dinner by even cutting their steaks. As a mom that in itself was a wonderful treat. Our cabin steward tended to our room every time we left. We never had to ask for anything. The ship was clean and nice. The food was amazing, we never ran out of different choices to try and the experience was fabulous every time.In fact there were so many options we didn't even get to try everything we wanted. And we ate more than enough. We never felt pressured to purchase all the extras either. There was more than enough activities on the ship, we didn't even get to do them all. All the staff was friendly and helpful always. We will be going on another cruise for sure. If you haven't been before, I recommend you go and it is great for kids too! I really liked the Magic. The deck 5 leni was real nice, the first time I never had to look for a deck chair. I last sailed on the Sunshine and it seemed like we were allways standing in line for something. On the Magic the only thing we ever had to wate on was the elevator, and that's normal. We picked this cruse because we had never been to Costa Maia Mexico. What a nice place to visit. If you get the chance go and swim with the dolphins. (In Costa Maia the excursion is called the dolphin push/pull) it's something you will probley only do once in your life. I wish we had done this when we were younger. Embarkation at Cape Canaveral was smooth and fast. Disembarkation was a different story. We followed hurricane Mathue up the east coast, Port Canaveral was closed and we sailed around just killing time waiting for the Port to open. When they finely opened the Port we were about 6 hours late. Two Carnavel ships and one Disney ship pulled into the Port. That's about 10 thousand people trying to get out of the Port. And there were about 10 thousand people trying to get onto those three ships. What a mess!!!! Read Less

This was our 9th cruise with CC. We were disappointed. Service was way down. Sat at tables many times and never a waiter came by. Had to hunt down someone if we wanted a drink. A few times I'd be standing at a bar and others would come up and be waited on before me. I finally had to start speaking up (I don't like being rude) and saying I was here first. We always get suites to receive priority embark and debark in ports and at home port. Never once did we debark priority. People wore pj pants and tshirts to the specialty dining room. Dress codes need to be enforced at least there if not in the dining. Our room steward was awesome. Food was so-so. Used to awesome. Was almost ran over by a man in a scooter getting on elevator. Food that was in the dining room was on buffet. Workers were chastised in front of cruisers. Felt so bad for them... Service in dining room was way down. Used to be that you never ran out of water bread or butter. We had to ask for those items as well as iced tea. Slow service as well. Food was not warm. Food choices was not what I was used too. We missed cruising in 2015. Man what a year made. If you didn't eat lunch by 2:30 your only choices are a sandwich or pizza. I would have liked a salad bar. Workers seemed like they ere not as informed a lot. During breakfast/brunch there was not ice tea to be found. If you asked for it no one knew where to fond it. The beds seemed smaller. Specialty food places Pig and Anchor only open 12-2:30. And very hard to find and you have to wait in a line outside in the blazing sun. Quite a bit of chaos altogether. Kids running around without parental supervision, younger ones. The hurricane being out there never played an issue on this trip except for when we were ready to head into Port Canaveral. We had to wait to get the clearance when we should have been in at 8 am we were not allowed in til 2:30 pm. The employees had NO control over the debarking at all. Were told to merge into one line. As I was doing so and older man than I am and I'm 51 said I don't think so and rammed his luggage into the back of my legs. I have bad knees. If had not been for the man in front of me righting me, I am sure I would have ended up one the floor. Rude people were everywhere. What is wrong with people today. Several times elderly people were waiting for an elevator and well able bodied people would swarm right past them nearly knocking them over to get the elevator first. Read Less

Sailed on October 01, 2016 out of Port Canaveral. This was our seventh cruise with Carnival. We booked a suite (room 7234), so we had priority boarding. My husband and I took our 16-year-old daughter and her best friend. They were across the hall (interior room 7236). Since they are minors, but traveling with us, they also were given priority boarding. Our suite was spacious and very clean. The bathroom had double sinks and a whirlpool tub/shower combination. There was also a small dressing area with an extra closet. Our room steward was outstanding and kept our room neat and tidy. Our daughter's room was a standard inside cabin. The ship was beautiful and clean. The food in the Northern Lights dining room was good and the service was good but sometimes a little slow. Guy's Burgers was outstanding as was the Blue Iguana burrito bar. The Lido Buffet food was hit or miss. The breakfast selection was good but the lunch and dinner options were lacking. The pizza was good but slow. Our daughter and her friend ordered room service a few times without problems. We did not eat at the steakhouse because they screwed up our reservation. We could have rescheduled but just never got around to it. We purchased the "Cheers" beverage program ($804.00 which included gratuity) but did not get anywhere near our money's worth. The program now lets you get specialty coffee, non-alcoholic frozen drinks, bottled water, and soda in addition to your alcohol. However, if would have been cheaper for us to just pay for the drinks that we actually ordered. Bar service was poor at the Blue Iguana Bar and slow at the Red Frog Lido Bar. A couple of the bartenders at those bars seemed bothered that they had to get your drink. The service at the aft pool bar and the main lounge bar was good but sometimes slow because they just didn't have enough bartenders working. The bartenders at these bars were friendly and helpful. However, we noticed that they had few servers walking around to take your drink order like they used to. We mostly just got up and got it ourselves. The casino had lots of slot machines and tables. It was usually busy and had a heavy smoke smell and cloud. If smoke bothers you, you might want to avoid this area. They did not do a good job at keeping children/minors out of the casino. We saw several kids sitting at slot machines and even saw a few teenagers playing the machines. The comedy club was great. The movies by the pool were good. Main lounge shows were good. Our daughter and her friend enjoyed the activities at Club O2 (for teenagers). The cruise director, was a little annoying. He came on the intercom system throughout the day and would sing a "good morning or good afternoon" song that he made up. He would talk and talk and talk. If you were trying to relax or nap his singing and talking were bothersome. Overall, we had a good time and will sail with Carnival again. The bar service and food selection issues on this ship were minor and we have never experienced them on any of our other sailings. Read Less

Housekeeping (Jay Jay) was always tidying up and made wonderful towel art models each night to display in our room. Also room service was excellent and accommodated us whenever we asked. The dining room crew in Northern Lights was very efficient and catered to our table in a smooth flow; thanks to Jorge, he was wonderful with his first class service and caring manner. I was very impressed with how friendly and polite the staff were and all the great choices we had in activities "Comedy" shows were a lot of fun. The food choices were fantastic as we could eat just about everything any time or any where. Hats off to the Dining crew again, they were so efficient and friendly (Jorge) especially. I would certainly do another Cruise on Carnival Magic. Thank you for everything!!! Joan & Sandra Read Less

I just want to start out by saying that I normally don't complain about cruises since I feel that dollar for dollar you get the most bang for your buck on a cruise. We just returned from a family vacation aboard the Carnival Magic and unfortunately we found the ship poorly run and lacking in some basic facilities. First off we have never been on a ship where the cabin steward has not made an effort to introduce themselves and ask if there was anything that we needed. After a week on the ship I still don't know his name. He did a good job with the room, but he should at least make an effort to know us and introduce himself. The swimming pool on the ship is much too small considering how many passengers the ship holds. We normally enjoy breakfast in the dining room and found it odd that when we were seated and given menus that they always neglected to ask if we would like juice and what kind. I'm not trying to nit pick but we have been on about 18 previous cruises at least 6 of which have been on Carnival and have always been asked about juice before. They have a salad bar and Guys barbeque on the ship on deck 5 but only keep it open for 2 hours on sea days, great options just not long enough operating hours. Buyer beware !! If you purchase something in the Fun Shops make sure you get the item that you were looking at. I purchased a Citizen watch in the Fun shop for $517 and found out when I got home that the sales representative gave me the wrong one. (black face instead of blue one). Starboard Cruise Services operates the Fun Shops for Carnival Cruise Lines and after I called them they said that there was nothing that they could do. I called Carnival and they said it was not their problem. Its a great watch just not the color I thought I was purchasing. All in all I must say that this was the most disappointing experience on Carnival Cruise Lines. The entertainment was also disappointing on this ship. Good Adult comedians but the other shows were sub-par. We will be cruising again with the family, just not on Carnival. Read Less

PROS: The Carnival Magic is a very beautiful ship with many features and bars to go to. The Red Frog Pub was a blast, especially for a bearded, beer drinking fool like myself who enjoys the pub atmosphere. Beer Pong was awesome as well, I was pleased they used real beer in this game compared to water on previous ships (both Carnival and Non Carnival). Some of the food I give an A, however overall I rate the food under average. Guys Burger Place was good, Tandoor (the Indian cuisine buffet) was fantastic! and the pizza tasted like it came from Italy, very very good! Alchemy Bar was amazing! Out of all the bars, the service here was by far the best. Great drinks and atmosphere. If you want to try something new this is the place to go, they will give recommendations based on your tastes. And friendly staff that know what they are doing and that also talk to you. CONS: Overall entertainment (shows and on-board events) I was unimpressed. For a ship that size, holding 3600+ passengers, I felt like there were very few activities. Went to one show and didn't care to go to another. The dinning room food was OK, better on some nights, not so good on other nights. The Lido Deck buffet tasted like a cheap buffet, and the lines were long. Overall food rating below average. Oh and the BBQ place is only open during lunch on sea days, that was disappointing as I didn't really get the opportunity to try it. Service needs a lot of improvement, everywhere with the exception of the stewards (read cabin review). Bar side service, especially in the Casino, was horrible! I would wait roughly 10 minutes to get my order taken and another 10 minutes to receive my order (mostly beer and coke). More complex drinks like a Mojito I understand, but waiting that long on a coke or beer is ridiculous. Never experienced that at a consistent rate on other Carnival ships. That average does not include the wait in the Casino. I wouldn't see a server for at least an hour to take a drink order, and it would take another hour (no exaggeration) to get my drink! I expect better from Carnival, especially from past experiences. Perhaps these cons have to do with there being 3600+ passengers on board and not enough staff, or perhaps not. Regardless, improvements need to be made if Carnival wishes to keep loyal customers. My family and I love Carnival, but we will be looking at another Cruise Line for our next cruise. Read Less

I have been on 3 cruises with Carnival and enjoyed them. I like the relaxed atmosphere. I sailed on the Carnival Dream about 6 years ago and had a fabulous time so I thought the Magic would be just as fabulous. This time it was good but not great. Food: I really enjoyed Guys burger joint. The burgers were quite good and the fries are excellent. Other than Guy's though, the food was mostly good but not great. In the main dining room (we had early dinner in the Northern Lights restaurant) I suggest you skip the flat iron steak. Frankly it was just disgusting. It was chewy, fatty, undercooked and overall just not good. My mom chose it two nights later and had the same experience. I would skip the baked potato as well. No way is it baked. It was always a hassle getting the toppings. The rest of the food was pretty good and the lobster on formal night was delicious. One night I didn't care for the menu so I opted for the surf and turf for an additional $20. It was great. The desserts were all great as long as you don't get the cake items. Dry and tasteless. The omelette satiation was well stocked and very good but the scrambled eggs on the buffet are powdered. I don't know if they were last year but they definitely were this year. I recommend skipping those as well. I think the quality of the food has gone down in the main dining room and on the buffet. In years past the kids wanted could not get enough of Camp Carnival. Not so this year. They never wanted to go and there was no face painting the entire cruise. My nieces were disappointed. Neither of my sons (12 and 14) cared for Circle C, which was a big hit last year on the Valor. Our cabin was nice but this year, they didn't put the bed in the ceiling during the day like they did last year. We didn't have a table, and the twin was never a couch as in the past. My husband and I shared a cabin with my sons. Other than the noticeable difference in the food and kid activities, it was a nice cruise. The cruise director was awesome and the excursions were fun. I had a nice relaxing time which is exactly what I wanted. We had adjoining balconies which was a huge plus. I think next year I will try a different cruise line just to see the differences. This was a different experience and a new boat for us. I certainly learned the hard way about using gift cards to fund my sign and sail pass. Bare with me through the rant. I was short on cash this trip-and unlike the previous sailing on the liberty of the seas, I had always just used a credit card attached to my sail pass. I was on a budget this year-and needed to use gift cards. 1. you cannot load cash into your sign and sail with giftcards from the carnival website-you must go to the guest services desk and have them load them onto your account. This is where all the trouble began. I literally had SEVEN $100 gift cards. So the gentleman loaded them all and then he said to me 'better keep them on hand just in case'. Literally by the next day my sign and sail card was declined and I had to go to the desk again. None of the mastercards went through-ONLY the american expresses took without issue. The girl behind the desk let me use their satellite phone to call the credit card company. I was told there was a 7% fee for using the card, so when the gent first loaded them-none of them took. The girl then had to reload ALL of the mastercards for a lesser amount. When I got home I checked all the balances leftover and they were crazy all over the place. Moral of the story? Don't save your gift cards, just use cash or one credit card if you can help it. 2. the purchasing of water was cheaper this time, about $4.50 a case, and is easily delivered to your state room on the first day. The drink restrictions have changed-but you can still carry on 1 bottle per adult, and a 12 pack of whatever beverage [cans] you want to haul around. No more coolers though. 3. We hit 4 ports this round, Amber cove [went atv'ing it was boring but a nice breeze made it worth while]. Also in Amber cove is a really nice pharmacy-take advantage of it! I purchased prednisone and wished I got more. St. Thomas [I highly recommend china king [next door to hooters], they have the best mongolean beef ive ever eaten. The jewelry shops there are a joke. Don't bother thinking you're getting a good deal any more-I spoke to several jewelers about random diamond pieces they had in their shops [and we're talking 1-2cttw rings of melee diamonds] and they were OUTRAGEOUSLY priced. Then we hit up San Juan and took an ATV excursion there to a 2200 acre working farm. READ the instructions on your tickets! You need your drivers license and a credit card for damages to the ATV [of which you get back your full receipt if there was no damage] and it was WELL worth it. Not for the light of heart, you will get banged up and bruised if you're afraid of the machines. It is some serious hard core riding. Two hours worth to be exact. I came home muddy from head to toe. Another GREAT surprise in San Juan are the street vendors!!! Every accessory you could ever hope to own ladies [and I DO mean every-especially hand bags.. wink wink, and WALLETS!] just gorgeous. Our last port was Turks and Caicos. The entire island is one big white sand beach. But this is not for the faint of heart. I hope you have an umbrella of your own-because fighting an entire cruise ship for a spot on the beach outside the dock was more than we could handle. There is not a lot of shade..plan on bringing the strong block and melting, the heat and humidity on the 4th excursion day did us in. Let's talk about the boat, the staff and the amenities for a moment. This is my 3rd or 4th cruise with carnival now and until this point we never wanted to pay extra or feel the need to seek dining experiences outside of our designated dining time. But we were flexible this trip and ventured out. Guys pig and anchor was only open for about 2.5 hours during lunch, and if you didn't get there early you were forced to stand in line that sometimes went to the back of the boat [even though it is located in the middle of the boat]. To experience it once was well worth it. Guy also has his burger joint open for most of the afternoon and we made SURE we got one of those daily! It was delicious. Dinner one night was at Cucino del capitano, the Italian restaurant. For $15 a person, you received a hearty appetizer, a large entree and a delicious dessert. I know the main dining room is awesome but don't miss out on this experience, the food was wonderful. The only thing we did not try, was the steakhouse, because we could have gotten a $20 uptick steak at dinner in the regular dining room, vs paying $40 each in the steakhouse. Let's talk about the buffet....it was cold and nasty, every time we tried to eat there at breakfast-so we stuck to the sea day brunch and breakfast in the dining rooms. They were great. This was the first cruise on carnival where we avoided the buffet [except for the mongolean wok for lunch]. Big praise to our head waiter Sheldon and his partner Lehron on the Magic. They were OUTSTANDING. We had the 2nd largest suite on the ship, room 7372. The beds are SO small.. but the room itself was enormous. The closets are disjointed and in 2 different places. The balcony is oversized [really nice]. There was a deep jet tub to soak your bones if you wished, and the cabin steward was awesome. The bad and the ugly The casino was nothing more than a giant ashtray. The air quality in it was poor, and my $50 casino credit [promised to me 2 cruises ago but was never delivered] was once again not on file. This is the 2nd cruise in 2 years they have ignored my credit, but promised it would be on the next one. For this reason [and because im tired of looking like an idiot going to the cage and asking for it when they deny me] I didn't gamble at all. But you can smell the casino clear across the hall down to the end of the shops on level 5. It's really kind of gross. The comedy club was entertaining [not as funny as the 4 women in the front row were] but it was good enough for the evening. Bingo has gotten more expensive im afraid. There are *AUTO* gratuities on all your drink tickets now, that was something we had not experienced before. So look out for those. I found out that I can remove the auto gratuity at the end of the cruise [I didn't know I could before] because I tip daily, all of the staff I encounter that provide service, and one big tip to the waiters in the dining room on the last night. I have never seen the inside of the red frog pub until this cruise. I must have been CRAZY not to go in there. SO much fun during the day, all kinds of great drinks, snacks, games.. GREAT way to fill some time on your sea days. We played a lot of trivia this go around as well, just a good time to be had by ALL..THANK YOU CARNIVAL! Read Less
