Our stateroom was 2551 on the Main Deck. It was well equipped with a very comfortable bed, full-length sofa, desk, chair and fine quality linens. Towels could have used a little fabric softener, but they were plentiful and in good condition. Stateroom steward was very attentive. Robes were a welcome addition to our experience on board Holland America, as were the lovely towel animals that greeted us each evening on our bed! Read entire member review >>
Cabin was outdated and tub is hard to step over. No modern conveniences updated here! No internet connections and TV didn't work most of the time. AC did not function most of the time. Very Hot room! Had on high setting entire cruise and did not cool down until we got back into cooler weather. Last two days of cruise. Woke up gasping for air from no ac in room. Awful feeling and experience. Had cabin 2556; main deck. Has window, is large (190+ sq ft), 5 closets.
Saw 3374, 3220 and 3222: these are on lower promenade and are much smaller; they have a window. These being on lower promenade it can be noisy, especially when there is maintenance on that deck (which was the case) or when they move around furniture
Also saw 3208, inside room on lower promenade: this is huge, quiet (no neighbors) and has lots of storage space.
Full bath. Great staff. Well located: not too far from elevators, not too low in the ship. Quiet location.
No refrigerator: should be added at the refurbishing.
Wi fi signal was clear: didn't encounter any problems. Read entire member review >>
ZAANDAM state room 2540
Our room was very nice indeed. Large bath with a tub.The room and the service was immaculate (as on all ships) Our Steward Hariul was most efficient, very polite and totally accommodating.
Do not panic if the toilet flush does not function instantaneously !!!
It has a mind of its own. It may hesitate a few seconds or minutes...sometimes an hour or two. But I think it is not a problem only with that specific room. Something to do with the ship's plumbing ? Read entire member review >>
This cabin was a big mistake. I chose it for the view out the front of the ship, and I certainly got that. Unfortunately it was right above the Mondrian lounge so I got all the noise. I figured I could cope with 2 shows a night but I did not factor in all the rehearsals. It should be sold with a warning. Also had to fight for decent curtains. The cabin next door had the same problems and ended up with a blackout cloth arrangement that the steward put up [tied to the window]and took down. I also had to fight for a makeup mirror. I think they bought me one in Hilo.
The cabin layout is ideal for one person. It would be very tight for any more. Read entire member review >>
Stateroom 2577, Main Deck, midship, ocean view, starboard
I chose this stateroom because we are a motion prone family and I wanted to be on a lower level and midship. The cabin more than met our needs. It felt very spacious for 3 people. When we boarded, the beds were pushed together so we requested the stewards to split them. Surprisingly, the room seems a lot bigger with the beds split on either side of the picture window. The beddings and pillows were in good shape. We slept well each night! There was more than adequate storage space for 3 people: 4 closet sections with adjustable shelves and hanging rods; 4 drawers at the desk; 2 night stands with 2 drawers each. We unpacked completely and stored the luggage under the beds. The bathroom is the biggest we have had on a cruise ship. The water pressure and water temperature were great, except for one night when the water was lukewarm. No problems with room temperature control as we stayed very comfortable. We had the radio tuned on the public announcements (channel 5) so we wouldn't miss them. There was some rust on one half of the window which blurred it, but other than that the room was in great condition.
The location of the room was perfect. Most port days, the water level was such that either disembarking or boarding would be on our level just a few doors down. We used the stairs a lot. Just a few flights up to the front desk or the Explorations Cafe. The self serve launderette was just around the corner and the public bathroom was a few doors down in case someone was hogging the cabin loo! The Promenade Deck was right above us and we did hear people walk in the morning but it didn't bother us as we woke up early most days anyways. It was also very convenient to pop up one level to the deck on scenic cruising days. Read entire member review >>
Quiet for the most part. Heard a bit of noise each morning coming from deck 3 Promenade, no problem though. My wife says the shampoo, lotion, etc. were top brand.Beds were comfortable. Will probably select Main Deck/ocean view for next cruise. Read entire member review >>
