Amazing experience for my first ever cruise!

Corfu

Went with a few friends and family to see the Christmas markets. I would recommend this to everyone. The 2 bad things were that they had a very heavy rainy season. This made getting from Passau to Budapest very challenging for the crew since we have to go under bridges. We did get stuck in Vienna for an extra night. That was not vikings first rodeo with theses issues. That made things happen so we could get to are walking tours. They have busses that took us to neighboring towns.

Crew was amazing.

We would never let Viking book are Air travel again they are the worst and you're better off doing your own. (we wasted hours on the phone. Not only us but are friends and family too) what a headache.

Everything esles getting trip booked was very easy.

Just book your cruise super early so you get the cabin you want. Deck 3 is awesome and worth it.

Christmas markets cruise

We were on the last ship to depart Passau for Budapest along the Danube for the Christmas Markets. We left on December 20th after a stay in Passau. We had rain and as the river began to rise it became questionable about making our destination in Budapest by ship. We were able to make our scheduled stops in Linz and in Krems. We departed Krems after the morning excursions in order to get ahead of the rising river. We arrived in Vienna on Christmas Eve and enjoyed the city and markets. Had a wonderful Christmas Dinner and Christmas Caroling by the piano bar. Christmas morning was in Bratislava  with many of the markets and shops open. Then the ship made a mad dash to Budapest as the river behind us was being closed due to the rising water and the inability for ships to get under the bridges. We arrived safely and were wowed by Budapest! A fabulous city and one I would love to revisit for a longer stay. We were so grateful for the Captain and the Crew who made this a once in a lifetime adventure. Our waiter, James Bond,  was the best. Food was good but I wouldn't say it was exceptional. The crew was exceptional. And the Captain was amazing. Thanks Viking for everything.

the overall experience was really disappointing.  I felt that Viking skimped on alot of small but very important items.  First off, the buffet when we arrived on the ship was sparce, not many selections.  However, the check in could not have been more efficient. 

We have been on close to 10 cruises so far and I would rate Viking at the lowest end of the cruises.  Staff was great but there was something lacking that did not bring us the standard or quality that we are used too. 

1, No room service

2. Fridge was never stocked

3. No bathrobes

4. if you missed lunch by 10 minutes you go without food till dinner time

5. Meals times changed every night.

6. Everyone or at lease 90% of people got sick on the boat only to find out that the event planner was taken off the boat on the second night after everyone was in a confined room on the first night with her.  

7. The forced seating with people was overbearing, not everyone wants to sit with stranger every night.  2-person seating should have been made more available. 

8. the extra night in Vienna killed a day for everyone and nothing was offered in its place. 

9. The entertainment was at best - poor.  

10. The boat didn't do anything special on Christmas day, that was really disappointing because we were all away from home and there was nothing special planned.  Again, lacked some serious attention here. 

11. minimal snacks provided between meals. 

12. minimal movies available on board. 

13. Upon everyone or almost everyone getting sick on board there were zero health measurement taken.

Viking 2023 Christmas river Cruise

Fanning Island

We chose the cruise as it was to celebrate our 25th wedding Anniversary and we wanted to do something  special.  It started on my birthday and ended on our 26th Anniversary.  We liked the idea of a small ship, less people and where we could see the shore at all times.  Not only was that provided to us but we got treated like royalty.  From the Program Director George to our cleaning lady Catalina to our servers Dwi, Noana and others, we were so impressed and felt at home!!! Our room was not huge but had all that we needed and surprisingly was plenty.  Each excursion was informative and breathtaking.  The extra excursions were wonderful from the Unicom distillery to the chocolate factory, to the Dairy farm.  All was well worth it!!  Last but not least, the food onboard was amazing!! What a treat!!!  We will be back to travel with Viking again!!!

Unexpected phenomenal everything 

We chose a Viking cruise, as my husband refuses to sail on larger ships.  In fact, it took some convincing to get him on a Viking River Cruise!  However, once we were on board, it was obvious that we'd made a wonderful choice.  From the ease of booking and knowledge of customer service team, the flawless travel to/from our destination and knowledge that Viking team we're tracking us all the way, to our on-board experience and the amazing destinations we visited.  We just can't say enough about this cruise.  We cruised from Budapest to Passau and included a post-program to Prague.  We  were constantly amazed by the beauty of the cities/regions we visited, and the tour staff were amazing,  The staff on-board the Viking Vilhjalm were awesome ... we just can't say enough about their friendliness, attention to every single detail, outstanding service level and sheer delightfulness to be with.  They truly made our experience the best it could possibly be.  Thank you, Viking, for helping us create a 50th Wedding Anniversary celebration we will never forget.  We're already looking at options for 2024!

Viking - Trip of a Lifetime!

We had the explorer suite which is phenomenal!  It was like our own apartment  to view the whole trip. We spent time on the balcony sipping wine and viewing the beautiful Danube from Budapest to Passau. Leaving Budapest at night, the lights were amazing as we traveled under each bridge. We also went through 9 or 10 locks. I was aware of and watched two that were huge and very cool to experience. The food on the ship from breakfast thru dinner, especially desserts were really great!  The local fare was really special. The tour guides were excellent! Each guide was from the city or town we were in. They had great stories & so much information. We were entertained while we learned about all the amazing places we visited. Getting on and off the ship was so easy! The crew were amazing!  They go above and beyond to accommodate whatever we wanted. It seemed as though they often knew what we needed before we knew we needed it.

Vacation of a Lifetime!

I wanted to experience traveling on a longboat in Europe.  It was my first cruise on a longboat.  It exceed my expectations.  It was smooth sailing.  

Everything went smoothly from picked up at the airport and returning to the airport once the cruise was over.

My stateroom was very comfortable and inviting. The design of the stateroom, made it feel larger than it is.  I utilized the balcony often and enjoyed my quiet time there.   I especially enjoyed  the fresh flowers.

The staff was curtious and went out of their way to ask if I needed anything.

The off shore activities were educational and fun.  I especially enjoyed the concert in Vienna, wine tasting and the horse farm in Budapest.

The food choices are varied and delicious.  The special food selections for the various countries traveled was delightful.   The dinning facility was very inviting with huge windows for a great view during the meal.

Cabin

We had done the Rine a couple years ago and wanted to do a Danube as we were so impressed with it. Only issue was locating our Viking representative at the airport on Budapest, after finding him he took excellent care to lead us through getting our flight. The driver from the ship to airport just sort of dumped us and left. No communication!

The food and food service was excellent as we have come to expect on Viking. We enjoyed the staff in the bar. 

We had a miss communication when we booked the trip. We were told the upgrade we took included Silver Spirts only to find out on board it wasn't  included. We were not to only people that it was told the same thing,  I talked to two other people that were told this. When we talked to Viking after our cruise  we were told we miss understood it. Neither of us really drink but it was upsetting  to be told  that after others were under the same assumptions. My thinking is it was a miscommunication  by the the sales reps at Viking. I our booking of the upgrade  we wrote  down  every item that was included, it's  our fault for note reviewing  the final documents.

Enjoyed the ship and service we received. 

We chose this cruise for my 5oth birthday celebration. Every second from take off to returning home the viking team was amazing ! Getting us to the ship from the airport ,the staff was incredible at helping us (with our lost luggage) and finding our way. The luggage was the airlines fault, yet viking took charge and it was soon delivered to our state room by end of the 1st night !. 

The hospitality from every cruise member was elite ! Our steward had everything  set up perfectly every minute of every day! The wait staff was unbelievable! Angel & Reena were just perfect every day!  Right down to the maitre de , Istvan,  sitting down with my wife every morning to go over her vegan menu for the day . This is unparalleled! Our bartenders were the absolute greatest ! Feri & Robert made this trip go above and beyond! They made every day fantastic with cheer and joy! 

Now we are spoiled ,being our 1st viking cruise. We will absolutely be rejoining cruises in the future. If you're having doubts , don't. Believe us , it's worth every penny!!

Hospitality is unmatched!

After sailing the Rhine river with Viking, we knew we would have to enjoy more Viking river cruises. We selected the Danube Waltz cruise and had an incredible time. Spending 3 days in Budapest prior to embarkation, then 3 days in Salzburg and 3 days in Munich after debarkation, the overall vacation was unforgettable! The accommodations abord the ship were luxurious, the staff was outstanding, the meals delectable, and the excursions fun and historically educational. If you're thinking about taking a river cruise, think no further than Viking! Viking has impressed us so much that we are now looking to book a Viking ocean cruise. The list of available ocean cruises covers the majority of the world we wish to visit, and the best part of doing it with a cruise line is not having to continuously change hotels. We strongly recommend Viking for all of your future cruise vacations!
