Originally scheduled for 2020, we were so happy to finally take this cruise! Having already cruised the Danube with Viking, we had a certain set of expectations and Viking met most of them. We started with a pre-cruise excursion to Lake Como, which was absolutely wonderful--lovely hotel, great guides, beautiful setting. I would highly recommend this. The Rhine cruise itself was delightful. ...
This was our 3rd Viking River Cruise. We love Viking and have had great experiences on 2 previous cruises, one on the Rhine River and the other on the Danube. We booked this cruise to go from Paris to Normandy and back to Paris on the Seine, where we then took a high speed train to Lyon, and embarked on the Viking Heimdal to the south of France on the Rhone River to Avignon. We extended our stay ...
We had taken almost annually cruises on Oceania. We had heard many great things about river cruises and decided during COVID to book this to try them out. We tend to book 1 to 2 years in advance. Well we were surprised as Viking had a representative from the time we cleared customs, until we entered customs going home.
We also purchased a pre cruise in Nice and post in ...
Chose this cruise because of the Castles. Loved the boat (Gymir) and staff was fantastic. Staff was very professional yet fun. River levels were perfect. Would definitely recommend the boat and the cruise. Pre trip in Lucerne was great and Viking staff there was very helpful. Post trip in Amsterdam was great but the Viking staff there was not the best. We would definitely cruise with Viking ...
This was our first cruise and I wanted to experience cruising on a smaller scale. We chose Viking for their stellier reputation and I couldn't have been happier with my choice. Everything from booking to the entire on board experience ran like a well oiled machine - not a single hitch. I believe all of Viking's river cruise ships are similar in design, but we felt fortunate to be on the Gymir as ...
Found being on board very boring without much to do outside of the excursions. We do not care to drink and socialize for an hour before dinner, during dinner and then after dinner. The popular Aquavit dining area would not be available as people felt it was okay to save seats ahead of time with their personal items. Very limited TV selections and often no internet connection available. ...
Worry-free vacation! Viking takes care of airline tickets, transport from airport to hotel, transport from hotel to boat, even transport for extensions. There is also a representative on site with suggestions for activities and restaurants during extensions and on arrival. Viking also takes care of luggage, just identify on arrival and at other various times, Viking staff loads the luggage and ...
Having never travelled to eastern Germany, I was especially interested in Wittenberg and reformation history. I really enjoyed this part of Germany that contrasted with the areas (west) that I had previously visited. The Viking tours were well organized and of top quality. The ship was modern and very clean and everything functioned properly. Although I felt the food was a little lower quality ...
Some friends of ours had taken a Viking cruise previously and recommended it to us. They were going and invited us to join. Visiting Normandy was on my bucket list and I was able to check that off. Everything about the cruise and side trips were amazing. The ship was new and very clean. The cabins were well designed and spacious. The food was delicious and prepared with care. I highly recommend ...
This was our first Viking River cruise. We picked the cruise because of the date, price and we wanted to go down the Danube. The food and service were excellent. I would have liked some local food instead of just one night. Going through Germany I would think they would have had German sausage at least one time on the menu. The ship was nice, however when we booked the only available rooms ...
