The 66,084-ton, 1,250-passenger Riviera, Oceania Cruises' second new-build and sister ship to 2011's Marina, debuted on Friday, May 11, and Cruise Critic was on hand to chronicle the christening. Riviera's godmother was "Iron Chef" and Food Network star Cat Cora, a fitting choice for a cruise line that is aimed at enthusiastic foodies.
Like her sister, Riviera sports some of cruising's most palatial suites, featuring furnishings from Ralph Lauren Home and designs by Dakota Jackson of New York and S.B. Long Interiors of Greenwich, Connecticut. The ship also has a Lalique-designed grand lobby, 10 dining venues and numerous bars and lounges. Facilities include a full-service Canyon Ranch SpaClub, Bon Appetit Culinary Center (for demos and cooking classes), and the La Reserve by Wine Spectator wine bar.
While Riviera is nearly identical to Marina, which debuted in spring 2011, Oceania has made some improvements to the new vessel. Among them:
The ceiling height of Deck 14, which houses the Polo Grill and Toscana specialty restaurants, as well as the library and Internet center, has been raised by eight inches.
The hot tub on the Spa Deck has been replaced by a thalassotherapy pool.
The size of the spa facility has been increased slightly.
The decor of Grand Bar and Martini’s has been slightly modified.
