Amadeus Cruises' newest ship is also the line's largest. MS Amadeus Silver, which debuted in spring 2013, is 443 feet long and can accommodate 180 passengers (plus about 46 crew members). Like its fleetmates, Silver features four decks: the Sun Deck and three passenger decks whimsically named after famous Austrian composers -- Mozart, Strauss and Haydn.
Bigger translates to its cabins, too. Its 78 standard cabins are 173 square feet, while the 12 suites -- all found on the Mozart (third) Deck -- are 258 square feet. The 20 standard cabins on the lowest (Haydn) deck have windows, and the 37 on the second (Strauss) deck as well as the 21 on the Mozart Deck have French balconies with drop-down windows. Suites feature walkout balconies complete with seating areas -- a feature new to the fleet. All cabins have twin beds that can be pushed together to form queen beds. They also have seating areas, cabinets, showers, flatscreen TVs, safes and phones. Suites feature minibars.
Passengers spend their leisure time on the Sun Deck, where they can take in the sights from deck chairs or while practicing their putting on the boat's putting green. Silver also features a walking track and a giant chessboard for those looking to unleash their inner Bobby Fischers.
Meals are served in the Panorama Restaurant on the Mozart Deck, where passengers can grab light bites in the early morning or a buffet breakfast a little later. Lunch is served either buffet style or standard sit-down, while dinners are five-course gourmet affairs complete with complimentary regional red and white wines. Produce is fresh, regional and seasonal. Passengers can indulge in an afternoon tea and cake service and a midnight snack, too.
Also new to the fleet are Cafe Vienna, a traditional Austrian coffee shop, and the River Terrace, an open-air lounge at Silver's bow.
Other amenities include a two-deck fitness room, massage, a hairdresser, Internet station and Panorama and Lido bars. Passengers can attend lectures and folklore shows and enjoy live music each night.
On excursions, passengers can use Silver's complimentary bikes and wireless audio tour systems.
Amadeus Silver sails the Rhine, Main and Danube, and waterways in Belgium and Holland. Itineraries range from five to 15 days.
