Spirit of Endeavour Review
As was revealed during a "California Wine Country" cruise, the intimate nature of the Spirit of Endeavour enhances the overall Cruise West experience, whether in the wine country, up in Alaska or down in Mexico's Sea of Cortez.
With a cruising speed of 13 knots, the 102-passenger ship is just 217 feet in length and features only four decks (Main Deck, Lounge Deck, Upper Deck, and Bridge & Sun Deck). Four categories of cabins are more than adequate for most of the cruising public, as are the other facilities and amenities on the compact ship. In short, we found that the ship lends itself quite well to Cruise West itineraries and the type of passengers the line typically attracts.
The ship is for people who like small ships and a fair amount of contact with other passengers. It isn't for those who like larger ships and the ability to remain anonymous onboard. In fact, it's precisely what is lacking onboard Spirit of Endeavor that makes it a special experience for laid-back cruise travelers: The lack of a pool, casino and entertainment venues actually brings the staff and passengers closer together, because socializing and great educational programs are the main forms of entertainment -- if that's what you want!
Highlights of the Spirit of Endeavour include:
Interesting itineraries and shore excursions that provide intimate experiences not typically possible on larger ships.
An American crew, all of whom are interested in interacting with passengers.
Many repeat (and loyal) Cruise West passengers on most sailings -- a large percentage of whom love to share their other (typically extensive) Cruise West experiences.
Outdoor space that includes a wonderful Bow Viewing Area and the Sun Deck.
An excellent video and lending library (with many offerings geared to the itineraries).
