Pandaw River Cruises
Onboard As all of Pandaw's ships were specifically built for river cruising, the promenade decks play a large role in enhancing the passenger experience. Each ship features an observation deck and a promenade deck, designed to offer panoramic views. Most windows are fully functional.A buffet breakfast and sit-down lunch and dinner are served daily, with many meals incorporating fresh, local products purchased in port. Meals often feature exotic, organic produce and locally caught seafood. Pandaw offers a mostly inclusive experience -- all bottled water, soft drinks, juices, tea, coffee and locally produced beer and spirits are included. Imported spirits are available at an additional cost. Each cabin is air-conditioned and is equipped with a mini-safe, luggage storage, wardrobe, writing desk, hair dryer, kimono and slippers. However, they do not have mini-bars, TV's or telephones. About Pandaw River Cruises Pandaw River Cruises was established in 1995 as a revival of the Irrawaddy Flotilla Co., which operated passenger and cargo ferries on the rivers of Burma. Pandaw launched with the restoration of its namesake steamer and began operating in the Mekong River in 2002, where three of its ships continue to sail today.Pandaw ships, which accommodate between 30 and 66 passengers, are all capable of reaching remote areas of Asia, including Vietnam, Cambodia and Borneo. Pandaw River Cruises Fleet The Pandaw fleet encompasses seven ships; an eighth is currently under construction.The 60-passenger RV Orient Pandaw currently sails five- and eight-night Borneo itineraries on the Rajang River. The Pandaw II (48 passengers) sails ten-, fourteen- and twenty-night cruises on the Irrawaddy River in Burma, along with the RV Katha Pandaw (32 passengers). The RV Mekong Pandaw (64 passengers), RV Tonle Pandaw (66 passengers), RV Indochina Pandaw (60 passengers), RV Angkor Pandaw (32 passengers), and RV Saigon Pandaw (60 passengers) sail seven-night Mekong River programs from Ho Chi Minh City to Siem Reap or reverse. Pandaw also charters a number of its vessels annually to American and Canadian river cruise specialists. The line's upcoming ship the RV Bassac Pandaw (which will also sail the Mekong River) is scheduled to enter service in October 2012. Fellow Passengers Pandaw's passenger base is primarily composed of well-traveled Australians and North Americans, with an average age of 60. |
