About Ocean Village
Editor's Note: Carnival U.K. has announced that Ocean Village will cease trading by 2010. Ocean Village Two will depart from the brand in autumn 2009 to join P&O Australia as Pacific Jewel.
The original Ocean Village ship will continue sailing a winter Caribbean programme and a European summer programme, before leaving the fleet in autumn 2010 to join P&O Australia. Ocean Village will be renamed Pacific Pearl
Since its launch in 2003, Ocean Village, owned by P&O Cruises (a Carnival U.K. subsidiary), has carved a niche for itself in the growing market for cheap and cheerful cruises targeting the young and young-at-heart. The recipe worked well, hence a second ship, Ocean Village Two, was launched in summer 2007. The ship was transferred from sister cruise line Aida Cruises (also owned by Carnival Corporation).
Ocean Village appeals strongly to mostly first-time-type passengers by "tearing up the cruising rule book" and targeting the "Dress Down Friday" generation. The go-getting "Dress Down" generation is in favor of casual dress, sporty activities, eating when you please, standup comics and rock concert-style entertainment. Casual is the order of the day on Ocean Village; none of its restaurants have dress codes (though most passengers dress respectably when coming indoors). There are no formal evenings, so these cruises are heaven for those who like to travel light.
