Windstar Cruises ItinerariesItineraries Windstar's ships alternate between the Mediterranean, Greek Isles and Baltic during the summer, and Caribbean and Costa Rica/Panama Canal during the winter months.Itineraries generally encompass both marquee ports and those quite a bit off the grid. For instance, a Caribbean voyage would include stops at big-ship ports such as St. Thomas, St. Martin and Tortola, but also include Jost van Dyke and St. Barthelmy (St. Barts)and Pigeon Island, St. Lucia. In the Mediterranean, an itinerary may sail between Rome and Athens, but then stops in Monemvasia, Greece, and Lipari, Italy -- definitely not big-ship ports. New for 2012 are the line's first Baltic itineraries, which include stops in ports like St. Petersburg, Russia, Stockholm, Sweden, and Bornholm, Denmark. Again, the itineraries are a blend of big name and lesser known ports. Windstar also offers seasonal Atlantic crossings. Though longer than the usual repositioning (they take as long as two weeks), they are quite popular with a dedicated core of cruise travelers who sail at least once a year -- and sometimes twice. The slower pace is due to the ships' average speeds, which hover at the 14-knot range instead of a big-ship speed of 20-plus knots. Baltic & Northern Europe
