I'm writing this review of my (very first non-Carnival!) cruise aboard the Emerald Princess. This was a 5 day cruise with 2 days (an overnight) in Cabo from 5/27/23 to 6/2/23.
I will preface this review by confessing that I am a regular cruiser on Carnival; I am not bougie and didn't really have any high expectations for this trip, although I've heard, of course, that Princess is classier and ...
Overall Princess knows how to visit Alaska and they do it well. The itinerary was wonderful, Sitka, Haines, Glacier Bay, Juneau and the not so wonderful Prince Rupert. The voyage was rough going but fortunately neither of us gets motion sickness, we enjoyed walking the empty outside decks and really blustery FRESH AIR. This was a full ship.
Embarkation in San Francisco was a breeze. We headed ...
We had to use cruise credits and didn't want to fly anywhere so it was really easy (we thought) going out of San Francisco as it is only an hour from our house and we can take the Vallejo Ferry to San Francisco. Great Ferry ride over the bay and called Lyft to take us to the Pier which is just under a mile. Took 35 minutes in the car as traffic was so bad (great driver though). Finally got to ...
To begin, we spoke to numerous staff members who shared how severely understaffed they were on this ship for our trip. Room service took hours to complete and, that was IF you were lucky enough, they actually came. Guests we spoke with all joked about how useless the medallion app was when ordering anything. People were getting their food and drinks the following day or items that were not at the ...
This was the only sailing during my anniversary. All the dining rooms were booked as they were only open for 4hrs a day. We were forced to eat in the cafeteria dining where the food was most often overcooked or undercooked and rarely open during posted hours. (24hr cafe listed in daily paper)
Ordering on the my way ap took 2-5 hrs to get our order. Only 1 person was attending the bars, pizza, ...
This is my third Princess cruise, second with the medallion app. Last October on the Discovery we thought we were just having bad luck with their technology, but its failure this time around can’t be a coincidence. Trying to upload documents before the cruise was a joke, and it took sitting on hold for TWO HOURS to speak to a live human being to resolve it. We finally got that taken care of, and ...
Booked this to get away from dealing with the hurricane damage in florida. i am elite with princess having sailed around the world twice with them. my husband died on an asia to alaska cruise in anchorage so i have a lot of memories with this cruise line and i've been to over 100 countries on various cruise lines lifetime. this was the absolute worst cruise i have ever been on. it was like a ...
This was a bucket list item for husband and I. It was our 3rd Princess cruise. The Royal Princess is a beautiful ship. But our cruise was a bit disappointing. First, the weather was bad. No one's fault and we did choose May. The scenery is very beautiful. We hardly saw any wildlife which is, again, no one's fault but disappointing. Our hike in Juneau was canceled; we weren't given a ...
The ship is long in the tooth with raggedy upholstery on seats with failing foam cushions that have been sat in so long they are shaped like peoples’ butts. The App DOES NOT WORK. Orders placed on it NEVER arrive, and the Chat function is useless, taking 45 minutes for someone to respond only to tell you the App is not working. The food in the cafeteria-style buffet is awful. Any food you order ...
This cruise was quite telling about the degree of cutbacks Princess is implementing trying to regain financial stability at the expense of decreasing the quality of goods and services provided. At first, it did not make too much of a difference in not having any stationary or writing instrument in the cabin but then the soap bars disappeared. Now with the new medallions for the medallion class ...
