Getting to the Port
Visitors touch down at Tampa International Airport, seven miles west of downtown Tampa. Click here for a list of airlines serving Tampa International. Taxi service is provided by Yellow Cab and United Cab; there's a minimum flat rate of $10 from the airport to anywhere else in the region, and a maximum of $20 to downtown Tampa or the cruise terminal.
Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz and Thrifty have car rental counters at the airport.
Public transportation is provided by Hillsborough Area Regional Transit (HART); the bus stop, along with a schedule and route map, is located at the east end of the Red Baggage Claim curbside by belt #20.
Airport limo service to downtown Tampa and other parts of Hillsborough County is provided by Bay Shuttle; expect to pay about $20 to get to downtown Tampa.

Amtrak serves Tampa Union Station, located downtown not far from the cruise terminals. From the station you can catch a taxi or HARTline bus to your destination.
Greyhound serves Tampa's downtown bus station.
From eastern Florida, you'll approach Tampa on I-4.
From St. Petersburg, Tampa International Airport and other points west, take I-275 into downtown Tampa.
From the north, take I-75 south to I-275, which goes into downtown Tampa.
From southern Florida, head north on I-75.
In many major cities a car is more hindrance than help, but on the whole Tampa isn't one of them. Though Tampa isn't large and has adequate public transportation to downtown attractions, you'll need your own wheels to get around the greater Tampa Bay region. One useful tool on the road is Tampa's 511 traveler information service; dial 511 and get free, 24-hour updates on traffic and road conditions.
