Getting to Honolulu for most visitors is as easy as hopping on a plane. We also include directions into the city by car.
By Airplane
Numerous domestic and foreign airlines fly into and out of Honolulu International Airport. Once you're there, rent a car. It's easy to navigate the city, and it'll give you flexibility when you decide you want to set out and explore Oahu.
By Car
There are two main routes into Honolulu:
From the airport, take Nimitz Highway going east. Nimitz merges into Ala Moana Boulevard when you reach downtown Honolulu, which is about a 20-minute drive from the airport. Be aware that the time can double if you're driving in early-morning or late-afternoon traffic. Cruise ships dock right next to the Aloha Tower.
From Waikiki, take Ala Moana Boulevard going west. It's about a 15-minute drive to downtown Honolulu. Again, allow extra time if you'll be traveling during peak traffic hours. Cruise ships dock right next to the Aloha Tower.
