Britannia: Style over Substance?

Review for a Transatlantic Cruise on Britannia

Just back from the Barbados to Southampton Transatlantic. We were left feeling very disappointed. We don't usually moan and we never try to find fault with things but there was so many obvious problems that we just found the whole experience not enjoyable. We so wanted to love this ship but P&O made it very hard for us. Firstly boarding in Barbados was fine, quick and efficient with friendly ...

Britannia Cruise Barbados ~ Southampton - Balcony Stateroom E312 We are a retired couple and enjoy travelling the world, we have been on 10 cruises this was the worst one by miles...! Here is a copy of the complaints letter I sent to P&O. We had a bad start.. 2 hours sitting in the plane on the tarmac at Gatwick waiting to take off without even a drink offered.! On arrival at our cabin ...

Never book early with P&O.

Very disappointed to see our cruise came down by 50% a few weeks before. This is the second time this has happened to us. My advice would be to not book early with P&O. Our cabin was situated mid ship, there was no access to any stairs so even if you wanted to go up or down one flight of stairs you had to wait on a lift. The lifts were very small and it could take up to 10 minutes to get a ...

Why, Why, Why, Britannia?

I had read numerous reviews about this vessel and in general they did not make for good reading but I joined the ship with an open mind. First impressions were good, a modern ship with what looked like modern facilities but this eventually just felt like window dressing. There is no one big thing wrong, rather lots and lots of little things that fail to hit the spot which meant that this ...

Cruised from Sydney to San Franciso segment of a World Cruise. Mainly English and Aussies on board. No children on this ship. Entertainment was wonderful, the ballroom dancer instructors were the highlight of our sea days aboard the Arcadia. Mainly retired people on board - I guess you need to be retired to have this much time available for a holiday! We met a couple who did a world cruise ...

A Cheerful Ship

We were on the first leg (Southampton to Rio) of a round the world cruise, then had an extension (not booked through P&O) to see the Iguassu falls and finally a stay in Rio. Embarkation was quick and easy. We arrived about an hour and a half before the appointed time (which is almost inevitable as no sensible person would not allow some margin for road conditions). Nevertheless we were through ...

We booked this cruise on 26 May 2015. In the booking process we rapidly discovered that you cannot book the "premium" return flight via the P&O website, you have to phone in. We then noticed that the confirmation did not include the coach pick up in Birmingham so we phoned in to query this. It was a difficult call because the customer services advisor clearly did not understand what we were ...

This was the maiden transatlantic voyage of the new Britannia, a new ship and only our second ever cruise. we had been really looking forward to it and in many ways we were not at all disappointed. 1 The ship is large, clean and bright, the facilities are extensive and many of the features and facilities are great. 2 We really enjoyed the food ( where we always dined in the restaurant in ...

Two week cruise on Britannia from Southampton to Caribbean via Madeira, sailing on 23rd October 2015. Four days before sailing P&O advised the ship would call at Tenerife instead of Madeira - disappointing as we had been to Tenerife before but never visited Madeira. Embarkation: rather shambolic, P&O apparently employing a new system. Our check-in time at Ocean terminal shown on tickets as ...

Very Poor for a Flagship

My first time on P&O and most definitely my last. Having cruised many times on Royal Caribbean and also Princess Cruises my wife and I decided to give P&O a go as they had just launched the new Britannia. I can honestly say that was a big mistake. The ship is not in keeping with a new flagship that's for sure. Our first impression was it all looked rather dull to be honest the Atrium was ...
