Food was very good, staff was excellent, very polite and friendly.
Service in general was very good.
Excursion tours was alot to be desired..Bar Harbor tour was very disappointing. The buses for the tours were not good at all. The St.Johns tour bus had no air conditioning, the Halifax bus had leaks in the window and we were advised this bus was new. At least the tour guides were exceptional ...
Joined my son and his family. They chose the Gem for the itinerary, which did not disappoint. However, after sailing on the Getaway and Escape, we found onboard activities lacking. The Atrium has too small a space and not enough seating to accommodate the more popular offerings.
The food in the main dining rooms was adequate, but not great. The specialty restaurants had the same good quality ...
After going on many cruises down to the Caribbean, my husband and I thought going up north would be a good change. We had been on the Gem 2 times prior and really like the size of this ship.
It was nice to go on excursions that did not involve snorkeling and such. We went on nature watching cruises and lobster cruises to help pull lobster traps. The only downside was the weather (which I ...
First cruise. New experience to share with partner. The excursions were the best part for me, and seeing the New York skyline and sharing views with fellow guests. Loved Canada and Bar Harbor. Unfortunately it rained heavily in Portland. Wish that stays at each port could have been extended to 8pm est to allow for more individual sightseeing. Very much enjoyed the excursions and my own ...
Of all the NCL ships we cruised on, The Norweign Pearl is our favorite. So we had high hopes for the Gem and it did not disappoint. We arrived at the New York Cruise Pier early and my son and I explored the USS Intrepid (which is right next door). Around noon is when we got in line to embark, which went as smoothly as any other embarkation. As usual, the Garden Cafe was crowded for lunch but we ...
This cruise was given to us by our children for our 40th Anniversary. As they say "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth" :)
As such, it was a wonderful trip, and NCL have very nice personnel.
Still, this being our second NCL trip, and 4th Cruise overall, it is worth mentioning a few things.
Some thoughts about food:
1. For whatever reason, no lobster was served on the ship. Strange for ...
We are Platinum level cruisers with NCL and the Gem is one of our favorite ships. We decided to use a cruise leaving from New York to have our wedding (and then a local reception in July). We invited everyone to join us, but most opted for the July party. 4 other couples (incl our matron of honor and best man) came on the cruise. Well, we had the time of our lives. NCL handled the wedding exactly ...
Are you ready to share a 20 square foot pool with the rest of the people on the boat? How about pay extra for the shows or not being able to go because it's all sold out within the first hour? Bermuda was pretty nice but there isn't really anything to so on the ship that's fun. The game shows they have going on are impossible to see because again, too many people to see it. For my experience, I'd ...
This was our 5th cruise on Norwegian (7th total) 1st on the Escape so we thought we knew what to expect when it came to NCL. How wrong we were! It started out well as the boarding process was pretty quick. We chose to board between 10:30-11:00 and because we had the benefit of Casino at Seas we bypassed the longest of the lines waiting for the security check. That’s a nice perk I will admit! We ...
About Us…couple in our 40s, celebrating our 13th anniversary and my 46th birthday on this trip. Have a 9 yo son who loves cruising, but not kid’s clubs – organized activities and sports are not his thing. We’ve been on Disney, Royal and Celebrity, and have done suites / Havens for the past 6 cruises; this is our first cruise as Platinum and were delighted at some of the non-Haven Latitude perks ...
