Depends what you want

Review for a Caribbean - Western Cruise on Norwegian Breakaway

First cruise with Norwegian. We’ve taken 3 others on Celebrity & Carnival. There were some good things about the cruise but many others that left us thinking it was just an average experience. Tot seems to depend on what you want. For kids maybe a good ship. If you like many nicer dining experiences maybe a good choice. If you like the loud pool scene they offer that. For us those aren’t ...

Cruising is not what it used to be

We chose the NCL Breakaway because we were in New Orleans for Mardi Gras and have sailed NCL many times before. It’s a beautiful ship but the venues are not capable of handling the number of passengers on board. The showroom is smaller than those on smaller ships and required reservations on the only floor show twice on two days during the week. The show BURN THE FLOOR was good but it was ...

This was my and my wife’s tenth cruise on NCL and was our favorite cruise line until this cruise. I started having reservations about this ship as well as the Prima after reading reviews. A lot of the complaints that people had didn’t really bother me, but I was concerned about some. The good. We had balcony on deck 11, it was good. The housekeeper was excellent, never had to wait for room to ...

The cruise went to some great places and we did excursions , unusually for us , and on the whole they were good. NCL are noisy ships and we always get a spa pass as that is the only place inside you can sit to have a view out of the front of the boat. Entertainment is varied and some is good some less so, food is generally good. Seated drinks service is always patchy, do they have a lot of people ...

I wish I could erase this cruise from memory. If you like extreme drinking and loud cruises, this is for you, us, not at all. Unfortunately it has given us doubt to ever go on a freestyle type cruise. The bars were packed from sun up to closing, sadly it was the same people everyday. You simply could not walk up to a bar to get a drink, it took forever. And no one walking around taking drink ...

We just got back from a 7 day Carribean cruise that left from Galveston. Definitely take a taxi to the port - would have never found out how to get there on our own. We did the park and cruise package with Holiday Inn Superdome. Taxi was $15 to the port. Since this was our first cruise we can't compare to other lines or cruises. The boarding process seemed efficient to me. Once on board it ...

Embarrassing disappointment

I talked some family and friends into going on a cruise this year, in lieu of renting a beach house to get a break from the winter weather. I have been on 4 prior cruises on Royal Caribbean, Holland America as well Carnival and always had great experiences. Our group wanted to go to Belize in particular so when I discovered that Norwegian’s Breakaway had a stop in Belize, I looked into trying ...

Cabin is clean but small and a bit dated. Quality professional entertainment almost non existent or in too small venues for such a large ship Food Ok, neither bad nor something to write home about. Servers and cabin attendants friendly but over worked. Some of the admin staff could be friendly. STOLE $41 from me. Charged us for 24 bottles of water we received and the same day ...

Gave Norwegian another try

We choose this cruise for the departure port and ports of call. We have taken 20+ cruises on multiple lines in the past. But, only one previous cruise on Norwegian which was not enjoyable. This was our return review of the line. Prior to sailing we reviewed the posting for this line and departure port. Most were not very complimentary but we gave them a chance anyway. 1. Departure ...

This is my second cruise. I’m not an expert. My first cruise was a 4-day Mexico vacation on Royal Caribbean (RC). My wife and I wanted to get away. We picked Norwegian gateway out of New Orleans to go to the Caribbean. Embarkation day went smoothly, we picked a 2:30PM time slot and it took about 15 min between arriving at the terminal and getting on the ship. Our room (regular balcony) was ...
