We must admit: The concept of the World of ResidenSea -- a giant condo-at-sea ship with 1,106- to 3,242-square ft. apartments selling from $2 million to $6.840 million has garnered a lot of skepticism. But it's becoming, more and more, a reality. The company claims that more than 75 percent of the apartments have been sold. More to the point, actual construction milestones have been announced, with the cutting of steel taking place on March 17, 2000, the keel laying ceremony taking place on September 18, 2000, and the ship's launch scheduled for early March 2001. It is due to be delivered in December. Highlights of the ship include a range of restaurants, cafes and bars, a casino, 24-hour room service, and cultural activities and educational lectures. A state-of-the-art fitness center will include a retractable marina for water sports, two pools, a jogging track and a golf center, complete with a driving range, putting greens and computerized golf simulators. Clinique La Prairie, known for its preventive, healing, revitalizing, anti-aging and beauty regime treatments, has signed on as spa operator. And if you can’t swing the cost of an apartment just yet, take comfort: 88 guest suites can be booked through Silversea Cruises for varying-length cruise segments. Fares are not yet announced.
