Royal Caribbean Welcomes Serenade to Fleet

August 1, 2003
In what has already been a busy summer for new ship launches, Royal Caribbean is the latest to accept delivery of a new vessel. The 90,090-ton, 2,110-passenger Serenade of the Seas was released from Meyerwerft Yard in Papenburg, Germany. It sailed to Amsterdam for European-oriented launch festivities late last week. Ultimately, the ship will make its way across the Atlantic for an even-more-festive inaugural celebration.

In fact, the ship, a member of the cruise line's Radiance-series, will not officially get its name until it arrives in New York next month. Whoopi Goldberg will be on hand August 22 to fulfill godmothering responsibilities. Serenade, most unusually for Royal Caribbean, will be based in New York on a seasonal schedule - the ship will sail four- and five- night Canadian itineraries September 1 - October 27. Serenade will then reposition to San Juan, where it will offer Southern Caribbean voyages.
