| Holland America's newest ship, the 1,848-passenger Oosterdam, got the official
handover in Venice from Fincantieri this weekend and is on its way to a couple
of look-see events in Europe before it sails its inaugural on August 3. The
85,000-ton - a sister ship in design though a bit more low-key in style to Zuiderdam - will be launched officially on July 29 in Rotterdam. Princess Margriet of
the Netherlands will handle godmothering duties. Princess Margriet also dedicated
Holland America's 1,316-passenger Rotterdam, which, coincidentally, will be
bow-to-bow with Oosterdam during the launch ceremony.
Oosterdam is the second in Holland America's Vista three-ship series. Zuiderdam,
which debuted last year, was the first. Westerdam, the third, launches next
spring. |
