Silversea Hosts Political VIPs in St. Petersburg

June 3, 2003
Silversea Cruises’ Silver Whisper found itself in the midst of last week’s 300th anniversary hoopla in St. Petersburg – and in a most prestigious way. The ship, moored on the Neva River, was the scene of a gala dinner hosted by none other than Russia’s President Vladimir Putin. Slightly “lesser” celebrity guests included U.S. President George Bush, United Kingdom prime minister Tony Blair, and French President Jacques Chirac. Other highlights of the evening included an evening cruise on Silver Whisper and the V.I.P’s watched St. Petersburg’s celebratory fireworks from its decks. The ship was charted by Russian President Putin to act as a special events venue during the three day ceremonial bash.
