Celebrity Picks Jacksonville As Home Port

March 26, 2003
In the increasing competition for "unique" home ports, Celebrity Cruises has become Jacksonville, Florida's first major "get" (ahem, cruise line). Celebrity announces that its Zenith will sail a series of "exotic Caribbean" itineraries -- 11- to 14-days -- from October through April (2004) from that northern Florida city. Specifically, the ship will sail a western Caribbean route (ports include Roatan, the largest of Honduras' Bay Islands, a transit through the historic Panama Canal, and the company's private island, Labadee, Hispanola) and a southern Caribbean itinerary (which, interestingly, definitely takes a different approach with an overnight in Barbados as well as calls at Tortola, a British Virgin Island, and Grenada).
