Carnival & P&O Set Merger Dates

March 17, 2003
Mark your calendars: Carnival Corp. has set April 14 as the date for it shareholders to vote on its proposed merger with P&O Princess. Shareholders over at P&O Princess have marked April 16 as the date for their vote and, if all's approved, the deal will close the next day. Passengers shouldn't expect immediate onboard changes, however; officials at both cruise lines say that integrating some operations -- Carnival Corp. is known for leaving its varied lines (which range from Cunard to Holland America) to operate in a more or less independent fashion --specifically areas touched by economies of scale, will take months if not longer.
