Princess Makes Additional Commitment to Caribbean

February 14, 2003
Princess Cruises has finally announced a name for its new ship debuting April 2004: The Caribbean Princess. The 116,000-ton vessel, now under construction at Fincantieri, will sail -- um -- Caribbean itineraries on a year-round basis. Caribbean Princess will sail alternative weekly Eastern and Western routes. This ship, interestingly, is being designed for its itinerary and will have a few Caribbean-centric features that don't exist on other Princess vessels plying those waters. For instance, there will be a Caribbean-themed alternative restaurant (in addition to Princess' trademark Italian trattoria) and a proram called "Dive In Movies." This involves a super-huge cinema screen designed for outdoor showings -- so passengers can watch, poolside, or, at night, under a moonlit sky. Caribbean Princess launches next April 17 and will home port in Ft. Lauderdale.
