(5:10 p.m. EST) -- At a ceremony Friday in Fincantieri's Marghera, Italy, shipyard, new ship Carnival Horizon received its coin.

The tradition, which signifies the exterior completion of the vessel, saw the coin welded to the ship.

As part of Carnival's Vista Class, the new-build will share many of Carnival Vista's amenities, including SkyRide, an aerial bicycle ride suspended above the outer decks; an IMAX movie theater; the line's WaterWorks water play area, including water slides and a dump bucket; and Family Harbor and Havana staterooms, which respectively offer space for families and access to exclusive areas.

Debuting in April 2018, 3,936-passenger Carnival Horizon will sail a series of four Europe itineraries from Barcelona before repositioning to New York in May 2018 for a combination of four-night Bermuda and eight-night Caribbean voyages that will last through the summer.

In September 2018, the ship will again relocate, offering a year-round schedule of six- and eight-night Caribbean sailings from Miami.
