(5:45 p.m. EST) -- For the first time since it opened 25 years ago, Princess Cays -- Princess Cruises' private island in the Bahamas -- will be a stop on select Carnival Cruises itineraries.

Beginning in May 2017, six Carnival ships -- Carnival Pride, Carnival Ecstasy, Carnival Conquest, Carnival Elation, Carnival Liberty and Carnival Sensation -- will offer a total of 40 calls on the island throughout 2017 and 98 calls in 2018.

Princess Cays, operated by Carnival Corp., offers a 40-acre complex comprising bars, restaurants and shops; an observation tower; and white-sand beaches with clamshell loungers, bungalows and water sport equipment available for rent. A free barbecue lunch is provided to passengers while they're ashore.
