Carnival Conquest Prey to Norwalk

December 16, 2002
Even as Norwalk-Virus-Watch seems to be easing up a bit in south Florida, Carnival reports an outbreak on another ship. More than 220 passengers out of 3,160 on the cruise line's brand new Carnival Conquest, which sails western Caribbean itineraries from a New Orleans homeport, became ill on the most recent cruise that ended today. Company officials there delayed the usual noon-ish embarkation until 4 p.m. Sunday so crew could perform an extra intense cleaning. The ship sailed last night.

As with its Norwalk-impacted passenger policies on Fascination, Carnival offered leery cruisers -- scheduled for yesterday's voyage -- a no-strings-attached out (full refund or trip rescheduling). In light of the delayed embarkation, those who opted to sail were given a $15 lunch voucher and free shuttle service to New Orleans' French Quarter.
