| Oceana Latest Norwalk Victim? |
P&O Cruises' Oceana (Princess Cruises' former Ocean Princess) is the fourth
ship to "come down" with a Norwalk-like virus. According to sources at the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 114 out of 1,208 passengers, and
3 out of 579 crew members, have reported symptoms consistent with cases that
occurred onboard Holland America's Amsterdam, Disney's Magic and Carnival's
Fascination. The CDC has sent a team of inspectors to the Netherland
Antilles to investigate the strain. As with the other ships where Norwalk or
like viruses broke out, Oceana had received a very positive score (95) -- so
recently it hadn't even been announced -- from the CDC's vessel sanitation
inspection.
In this case it looks like the majority of those who are suffering from
viral symptoms were part of a charter flight from Manchester, England that
arrived on November 29, the ship's embarkation date.
Oceana is in the midst of a 15-day Caribbean voyage. | |
