| Earthquake Rocks Alaska |
Alaska's mammoth earthquake yesterday -- it registered 7.9 on the Richter Scale and was felt as far away as Louisiana -- did little damage to cruise line's land-tour lodging facilities. "I've checked with our hotels director in Seattle and he reports only a few broken dishes at the Fairbanks Lodge," says Princess Cruises' Susanne Ferrull. "Otherwise, all the properties weathered the quake very well."
A Holland America spokesman reports similar impact -- "nothing major at
all."
The earthquake, which has been said to occur along the Denali fault, hit at 1:12 p.m. Sunday; its epicenter was about 80 miles south of Fairbanks. Miraculously, there were no fatalities. | |
