Smooth Sailing Despite Attacks

October 17, 2002
Last week's tragic events in Bali have had minimal effect on the cruise industry. Of the major American-oriented cruise lines, only Holland America even had a port-of-call there in the next couple of months. According to news reports, Holland America is rerouting Volendam, which was slated to stop there, as part of its Sydney to Singapore itinerary, on October 28. The ship will call at Broome, in Australia, instead. Otherwise, Bali, which is typically a fall/winter port-of-call, is only included on one other ship's itinerary -- that being a winter voyage on Holland America's Prinsendam and there's no word about a change there. Holland America's p.r. staff did not respond to a request for information.
