Fire Onboard HAL's Statendam
Holland America's Statendam is being towed back to port in Vancouver today
after a small fire broke out in the ship's generator area and disrupted its
navigation and propulsion capabilities.

The fire caused the ship, headed to Seward, to go adrift in the Strait of
Georgia -- off the U.S. and Canadian coasts. The U.S. Coast Guard, via word
from the Canadian Coast Guard, got the message that the ship was in trouble
about 9 p.m. Sunday.

The ship is carrying carrying 1,368 passengers and 563 crew. No injuries are
reported.
