Cast of "Love Boat" Named as Regal Princess Godparents
the cast of the love boat tv series as they look today

(10:54 a.m. EDT) -- The show that put Princess Cruises on the map will once again make history as the cast of "The Love Boat" has been named godparents to the line's newest ship, Regal Princess.

All six cast members – Gavin Macleod (Captain Stubing), Fred Gandy (Gopher), Ted Lange (Isaac), Bernie Kopell (Doc), Lauren Tewes (Julie) and Jill Whelan (Vicki) – will participate in the christening ceremony on November 5, kicking off the line's 50th anniversary celebrations for its milestone year in 2015.

According to president Jan Swartz, passengers sailing on any of Princess' 18 ships in 2015 can look forward to range of special anniversary experiences onboard.

Regal Princess entered service in May in Europe and will homeport in Fort Lauderdale to begin its first season sailing the Caribbean. The 3,560-passenger vessel features the SeaWalk (first debuted on Royal Princess); Chef's Table Lumiere, a private dining experience; and the largest pastry shop at sea.

The pilot episode of "The Love Boat" aired in 1977 onboard the original Sun Princess. The series ran for 10 seasons becoming one of the highest-rates and longest-running shows on television.
