(10:32 a.m. EDT) -- P&O Cruises Australia's two newest ships will be called Pacific Eden and Pacific Aria. The names were chosen from more than 30,000 suggestions submitted by cruisers as part of a Facebook contest held in Australia and New Zealand.
Pacific Eden and Pacific Aria, scheduled to debut in Australia in November 2015, were unveiled during a ceremony at Sydney's Bondi Beach in which Port Macquarie artist, Chloe Dickey, raked the names in a 20-metre-wide sand mural.
Ann Sherry, CEO of Carnival Australia, said the names captured the "fresh, vibrant and contemporary" essence the line was striving for.
The winners each won a cruise for two on the inaugural voyage and will attend the christenings of the ships they named.
With the launch of Pacific Eden and Pacific Aria, P&O Cruises Australia will have a record five ships sailing year-round from Australia and New Zealand. Homeports and itineraries have not yet been announced.
